"Today for a short period of time I found me'self as the only sponsor for our fresh off the boat friends. Durin' that time Smog has had five new workers approach us ta' earn some extra cash." Tammy is standing on the steps of the Las Vegas city hall. Her hands are dug deep down in her pockets and hair lashing in the wind. Her overcoat conceals the majority of her attire, though a pair of study boots and a mid length dress can be seen where the coat ends. "Now we all know that tha' mayor is up our assess to clear up the streets. I thought that this might be a good opportunity to clear up any uncertainties about what recruitment is, share some approach methods and give you amazin' people tha' chance to share your own. "Let's go!" She skipped down the stairs, her feet moving elegantly between the steps. She grabbed the first urchin she could find and with a twirl, had her arm over his shoulders. He nervously glanced around, unsure what was happening. "I hear a lot about sponsors bein' uncomfortable talkin' to new guys. Some are put off by the thought of bein' made a fool of by an experienced bloodline." She pokes the young man in the chest and hugs him with the one arm. He remains confused. "This guy ain't scary or intimidatin'. Remember, you're lookin' for people who want to work wit' ya'. If they start givin' you aggro or makin' demands, don't just nod along or get discouraged, simply advise them that you're probably not the one they will reach their goals with. If you're keen to win them ova', offer to teach teach them somethin' they might not be well versed in, or request 'dat they support you with a goal. You may find that your reluctance or indifference to hire someone offers insight to tha' worker that you have some standards to maintain. Perhaps you 'tink that this guy would jeopardize them standards? Maybe he 'tinks that he'll prove ya' wrong? "If you've found a genuine fresh face, like 'dis lil' puddin'..." She smiles down at the urchin. "...Inform them, don't recruit them. Offer ta' shop around for them, so they find a crew tha' offers the experience they are lookin' for. If you recruit a fella that jus' ain't into what you're offerin', he's gonna be unhappy and unfulfilled. The response I get from that is often appreciation for offerin' ta' help, not just tryin' ta' get them through your doors. "Explain to your worker what they need ta' do, and when by. Throw in some excitin' lines like 'I gotta go take care of somethin', I'll check back in wit' ya in a few' or 'I don't need ya to earn me money, I need a gal that's got my back'. You make 'tings interestin' then you're likely gonna find the right type of worker for your needs." She releases the young man, who doesn't flee, only remains to listen. "And don't hoard. Pay attention to one or two guys at a time, ask what they want to be called and make the effort to use that name, not tha' one the Mob Mailman has written down. Give them little jobs to do, travel tha' country and visit a business, then reward them with a cash sum. Locate a target you've arranged and gun him down, that sorta' 'ting. "As for any other workers, introduce them ta' other sponsors in the city, someone who might be unsure wit' the role. Or jus' help 'dem find work elsewhere, teach them tha' ropes. You may find that they wind up comin' back to you anyway, or remain a good contact." Tammy is soon accosted by the force patrolling city hall. The press had arrived and this was not the kind of thing the mayor wanted on his doorstep. She yelps as she's forced from the premises. "Oh, and as for tha' five that I had workin' for me this mornin'? ...Only one stuck around and took a permanent place... If you work your ass off an' end up with one diamond ...out of a crap ton'a coal, then it's all worth while!" |

Tenley had been listening to the advice. She was always keeping an ear open for such things. "I appreciate the time that you have taken to give this advice. I agree with it wholeheartedly and I really am not sure there is anything I can really add to it. This is brilliant." |
