"Swango's" and Roundabouts Started by: Nikki_Swango on Jun 30, '17 16:55

Dion continues his small talk with the woman behind the bar. He was starting to realize she was the owner and not the bartender. He kinda wondered about the bartender, given his stumbling nature and appearance and the glances once in awhile from the woman he was talking to he could tell she was not impressed at all. He makes note of a couple places the woman mentions, but being new to the country he has no clue where they are or how they are. He simply understands shes talking about places she has visited or maybe even lives in. "Can you tell me more about this Chicago you speak of?" he asks her one of the times she is passing by. Not wanting to bug her too much he waves the bartender to get him another tea as his current is almost empty.

The coffee appeared as if by magic, and he knew who it was even before she helped herself to his cigarettes.

"Actually it is," he answered, conspicuously covering his notepad with his arm as he turned, "What do you think?" He lowered his face to inspect the suit himself as he asked. It was a deepened blue wool with faint white lines traced through the fabric. A princely gift from the owner of the shop.

He lifted his head back up and waited for her to finish her inspection.

Eyes flicking down to Cesare's notenook, she knows it would be in her best interest to let him write in peace. Pilfered cigarette in hand, she returns to the bar once more, checking her watch with a frown.

"Hmm. Chicago is really windy, and really cold. Unfortunately, I've got to head back there," she murmured, her brow creased.

"Enjoy your tea. You oughtta try it with a shot in there sometime, it's a real kick in the pants," she winked before collecting her things and pausing to quietly berate the bartender. On her way out the door, she quirked a smile at her Left. "See ya, Blue."

Dion finishes his 2nd glass of tea, pays his tab and with a last look around the wonderful establishment puts his hat on his head. After taking his cane into his left hand, he walks towards the door giving a curt nod to the bartender and leaves. Once outside he takes a look down the streets wondering what would become of this area as the years went by before hailing a cab and heading for the airport himself.

Frank stepped into Swango's joint, He saw her and a smile came across his face, he didn't move towards her he just simply looked at her and then took a seat that was places in a corner over to the right of the entrance.   He had an unobstructed view of her as she worked and talked to her staff and visitors.  He admired her due diligence she was always a determined woman and she made it on her own.

His smile grow into pride as he slowly stood and nodded to her even though she never noticed him and he turned and walked outside standing in the doorway of her establishment he looked up towards the blue sky and thanked God and then headed towards the train station.  His thoughts were always with her wishing her nothing but the best.

The day was long and busy. Several trips between New York and Detroit left Prince the need to sit down for a drink and unwind. He wasn't sure where to head but the sign for "Swangos's" and Roundabouts caught his eye. Opening the door he immediately was hit by the upscale vibe and relaxing atmosphere. He took a seat near the back, not so far he couldn't hear the live band but also not so close his hearing would be obstructed. Waiting on a server he begins debating on what he'll drink this afternoon..

Nikki had just lit a smoke when she noticed a new face through the haze. He seemed young, but had an air about him that rang familiar. Always curious about the connected folk that stepped inside her various joints, she sidled over and smiled.

"Hey there. Get you a drink? We've got just about everything," she said, running a discerning eye over him. He looked tired, but...unspoiled. The Life hadn't fucked him up yet, and she loved seeing that look on the new blood.

Looking up at the gorgeous woman he couldn't help but flash a smile with the last of his energy. Prince still hadn't decided what to order, but figuring he need a pick me up he figured maybe something with caffeine would be best.

"I'll take a double expresso please, and one of them smokes if you can spare it, ma'am" he said while taking a quick peak around the joint for any listenin' Louie's. Seeing the coast was clear her directed his attention back to her..

"I don't believe I caught your name, I'm Charlie Prince.." he says as he extends his hand..

"Nikki Swango, nice to meet ya. You a local?" She asked, shaking his hand and then a cigarette halfway out of her packet before holding it out towards him. The image that had popped into her head at physical contact had been of a head of iceburg lettuce. Not for the first time, she began to wonder if she had brain damage, or maybe a tumor.

Turning towards the bartender, she held up three fingers sideways, then two fingers upright. 'E' for espresso, '2' for double shot.

"Ah Miss Swango, just the woman I was looking for, and yes now I am" he said before giving her a grin and a wink. Straightening his back he gestures his hand offering her the spot across from him.

"Do you have a few moments to sit down with me and discuss some business?"

Report Post Tip

"Well, sure," she said, taking the seat across from him. This should be interesting; every goomba had a brilliant idea, but none had their own start-up cash to get it off the ground. A female always looked like an easy mark, no matter what her position might be. Get some money, maybe not pay it back, what was she gonna do, break a nail trying to hit you?

That was another thing about the new guys...they tended to underestimate. She sincerely hoped this one disappointed her in that regard.

"What's on your mind?"

Prince scanned her over with his eyes, she was calm and he could tell she was most likely looking him over for any sign of weakness he may show. After the short pause he began to speak..

"I've heard a rumour that the Federal Reserve down in Chi-town is getting a large deposit of gold bars. If my contacts are correct it'll be one of the largest deposits it's seen this century, estimating at about Thirty-Two million. Yes, I did say million. Problems is though, I need some help scouting the area. Your crime family is one of the biggest in using fronts, you must have some city officials on the pay roll that could get you the blueprints to the joint. If you can I'll make it worth your while"

Her pupils flared. Action had a tendency to elicit that reaction.

"I can get them. But there's a catch. I'd like in on the job," she said quietly. Fetching papers was boring. She wanted to play.

"I won't even ask for an obscene cut, like most would. Just a spot on your team," she finished, folding her hands in front of her and waiting, cigarette forgotten in the ashtray. Her last job with Cesare, the Vegas casino, had been unforgettable, and she wanted a repeat performance.

Her reaction threw him off at first but within milliseconds he was sharing her excitement. This was perfect as the team he had thus far wasn't really much of a team, was just him. Maybe a few members in the same organization as him that might want a taste, but he hadn't shared the details with anyone else yet for fear of them doing it without him.

"I could definitely use your help, and the help of any of your crew that may be interested or able to help. We need to get this organized quickly though. I hear they are bringing it into the Reserve on September 27th at about 02:00 and picking it up the same time the next day."

She thought it through, did the math. A week of prep.

"Okay. Lemme talk to some guys," She said, pulling a card from her pocket and sliding it towards him. Simple, glossy black, with nothing on it but her number.

"Gimme 24 hours. Enjoy your coffee, Mr. Prince," she chirped merrily, the spell broken as the bartender arrived with his order and she stood to return to the bar.

HerbalTheLeaf walks in from a long day on the hustle. He scans the joint, and notices a few that he knows. Of course Nikki. his father always spoke highly of her, and another familiar face he looks over at charlie, as he acknowledges with a nod and a tip of his suede fadora. He spots an empty booth as he slowly moves past the bar letting the tender know to bring a bottle for him.

"A fifth of Congnac please. Right over there "

he points to the booth.

A lot of business floating around in this joint, and plenty opportunity. He takes a seat, pulls out his bag of herbal, and rolls a blunt. As he sparks the goodness, he looks over and sees Nikki_Swango, and Charlie_Prince

" hmm, they seem to have something going on. Might be worth getting the details."

He singles over to the tender.

"lets get those two a drink, and ask them if they would like to join me. I have some conversation for them."

HerbalTheLeaf sits waiting patiently.

As Swango departed from the table Prince finally lit the cigarette she had given him, as he knocked back his double expresso shot. Feeling the electrolytes flowing back through his brain he got out from under the wave of tiredness. Just before he finished up the bartender came over to him with a fifth of cognac and an invitation to join his partner in crime HTL at the bar. Ashing his cigarette, he slid out of his seat and proceeded to stand up while stretching his legs in the process. He made his way over to his friend and took a seat. A cling from their glasses clashing could be heard along with the words "cheers" as they took a gulp of their drinks. It had seemed Miss Swango had already left the establishment.

"Fancy seeing you here, I was just finishing up that business I told you I had, after this I'm heading down to sign those papers for our property out west."

"I actually saw how the set up was going. excellent spot. I see a lot going on with that place there. Keep in the loop if you can. I can provide some good help if needed. I am usually easy to get a hold of."

HerbalTheLeaf says as he takes a drag from his Cigar.

"I think this place is great, I really like what is going on with the building of establishments, and comradery  that is being built within the Families.  I hope it continues."

He takes a sip of his drank, and continues to tap his feet to the nice tune that can only keep you in a sway.

Tommy had been spending the last few days walking the streets of Detroit. He had been in and out of some of the more famous joints out there. This place, was the last on his list. He heard it was owned by someone from a Chicago based crew. That surprised him briefly for he did not see too many establishments owned by outsiders during his tour of the city. For someone to build such a place and have it last for so long, they must have some serious clout. True enough , the streets were filled with tales of his escapades.

He walked in with the hope of meeting this mythical mobster he had been hearing so much about. Leaning next to the wall he lit a cigarette as he gazed around the room. Catching a glimpse of the people around he couldn't help but be star struck. The crowd was full of infamous mafiosos engaged in jovial conversation. With a sigh he sat down and perused the menu. Choosing to focus on his growling stomach rather than the glamour around him, lest he do something unseemly and make a fool out of himself.

Briya stomped on the brakes of her freshly stolen '24 Silver Ghost and idled in the strret in front of Swango's and Roundabouts. She stared at the shop, cafe, bar, whatever the hell it was, knowing this was the place she was supposed to be. A quick tarot card reading on the flight here had indicated that a chapter needed closing, and that she was the one to close it. She'd been riding around with a gas can secured in her trunk, telling herself she simply didn't want to run out before getting out of this ghost town, but she currently had half a tank, and as she gazed into the darkened business, she now knew what the spare gas was truly for.

Leaving the car idling in the roadway (because who was here to care or notice?) Briya popped the trunk and lifted out the full can, moving a fair distance away from her car before starting a gasoline trail that led to the front door. She had no desire to go inside and revisit old ghosts, so she simply splashed gas all around the exterior walls of the building as she circled it. Once a full circuit was complete, she carefully placed the can back in her trunk and got in the car to find something to ignite the soaked building with. She wasn't willing to forgo her only book of matches, so she began fishing around inside the car itself, with no luck. As she sighed in frustration, her eyes landed on a glimmering object not far from the front door of the shop. Leaving the car again, she walked over and picked it up. It was an engraved lighter, with an inscription in another language that she didn't know.

With a shrug, she walked back to the car again as she flicked it. Strangely enough, it still worked. Before pulling away, she tossed it out her open window, flame high and bright, towards the gas trail.

More oddly now, she saw another fire blazing in her rearview mirror as well, this one back towards the lot where she'd stolen this very car.

Interesting...
