The Party Started by: Malice on Jul 01, '17 21:58

"Just breath" she thought to herself before stepping into the main hall. As she looked around, she was taken back for a moment at how glamorous and intimidating everything was. She had been to prestigious parties before but this was more than she had ever dreamed of being invited to. The large ballroom was full of life, people laughing, beautiful flowers, enormous pillars and tables decorated with the finest silver. The women were stunning and the men dressed in their finest, she herself was wearing a long red backless gown that hugged each curve just right. She had bought it just for this night, it's not every day that one of the most well known mafia families invites you to their party. It was a great honor to even be considered but to actually go was unimaginable.

"Invitation Miss?" Lost in thought she was a bit startled when she looked next to her and saw a tall gentleman standing there. she reached into her purse looking for the invitation he was referring to "Just have fun"

As she pulled out her invitation to hand to him she stopped briefly "excuse me?"

"you seem to be new, my advice is to just have fun." he took the invitation looked it over and smiled. "Miss Malice it is an honor to meet you" He called over a busboy and handed her a glass of the finest wine "enjoy your night"

"thank you" she smiled shyly before taking a sip and deciding to head towards one of the tables on the other side of the room.

She was greeted by a few people who she knew from a few business dealings on the way but couldn't help but notice a man on the other side of the room.

"That's Azothshe quickly looked away from him and focused her attention back to her friend as they continued talking "this is his estate, remarkable isn't it? Gorgeous and deadly." Remarkable was right, you would think he was chiseled by Michelangelo himself. His suit emphasized how perfectly defined his body had to be underneath, his face was that of an angel with the most striking hazel eyes, silky brown hair and his smile lit up the whole room, It was no wonder why she couldn't keep her eyes off of him.

It had been a number of years since Azoth had set foot in chicago, he and his mentor, Durzo Blint, had settled here to finish Azoth’s training having floated around America prior to that with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. They had moved from city to city doing what they must to survive as part of strict, rigorous and harsh training that Durzo put Azoth through to help turn him into a wetboy. The process would take many years to accomplish and so much knowledge was being imparted that it made Azoth’s head spin.

When they finally stopped moving and hit chicago Durzo explained to Azoth that it was now time to put the skills he had taught him to the test. The plan was simple, Azoth was to plan, prepare and implement a full takeover of one the cities largest crime families using his skills of manipulation, intimidation and assassination in as short a period of time with Durzo at his side providing backup and support.

Within a relatively short period of time - a few months at least - the duo had infiltrated the secretive underworld family as thug doing grunt work and managed to manipulate and influence their way up to underbosses running their own operations to generate income for the family. They had acquired a huge amount of wealth, power and respect in such a quick fashion that rivals from other families had taken notice, this unfortunately led to a large number of enemies looking for any opportunity to take what they had.

On the same night that Durzo was gunned down by the hitsquad of another family whilst making his way home, Azoth disappeared. The only contact anyone had with him prior to his departure was his most trusted advisor, Jacob. Azoth had appeared at Jacobs residence with a large amount of already prepared paperwork that basically entrusted his entire estate into Jacob’s hands for safeguarding. When Jacob had enquired to Azoth’s reasoning for all of this the only response he received was that “he needed to get far away from here to clear his head and would return at some point”.

Fast forward six years and here he was back in Chicago sitting in his old friends office making small talk, laughing and joking over drinks whilst they dealt with the paperwork required to transfer his estate back into his own name. Azoth was genuinely staggered at Jacob's loyalty towards him, to come back after 6 years and find everything as it had been when he left it was amazing, everything had been maintained and cared for as if it had been Jacob's own. “You know Jacob... now that I’m back, as a thank you to you for all the hard work you have done in my absence, I think I’m going to throw you one of the most extravagant parties this city has seen for quite a while…”

Excess and overkill had been the term Azoth had used when his party planner had asked what the theme for his party was, he had just returned after a six year absence after the murder of his closest friend and mentor and he wanted everyone to know it. Fortunately when there was plenty of money involved, excess and overkill were relatively easy to provide, hordes of rich and powerful guests from all over Chicago were arriving to the party located at Azoths massive estate either by their own means or specially arranged cars provided by the host. Huge buffet tents had been set up in the estates garden to provide a massive feast of sumptuous food for everyone, a large gazebo had been constructed next to the enormous swimming pool to house the live musicians,  an army of caterers and waiters were at hand to meet the requests and requirements of everyone and most importantly of all there was an overwhelmingly stocked bar providing enough liquor to allow every guest to get drunk five times over.

Azoth had been standing with a group of guests exchanging pleasantries and stories when he heightened senses seem to pick up on someone watching him. Taking his attention away from his guests he started to discreetly survey the room full of hundreds of guests to see if he could spot his potential admirer. Fortunately it didn't take him long to spot those bright piercing dark brown eyes continually flicking back and forth in his direction, the task was made easier not only due to her incredible beauty but also because the dress she chose to wear was absolutely stunning…Red, seductive, showed off her wonderfully long back and it clung to her and accentuated her hourglass figure in a way would reduce most men to a puddle of drool. From the moment his eyes caught her glances towards him he had instantly become infatuated with her, his mind was spinning and he had been unable to stop staring at her. He made the decision there and then that he was going to have think fast and come up with some way to be alone with this woman.

Malice had grown up in a beautiful countryside house, right outside of Chicago. At the time her father, who was a new dad and husband felt it was safest to keep them away from the unforgiving streets that he worked in. It wasn't until her mother passed away that malice was introduced to the mafia lifestyle her parents had hoped to keep her away from. She was still young and being so tormented by his wife's passing he made Malice his protégé hoping it would teach her to protect herself. He taught her everything he knew and unless he was out on a job she was right by his side, watching and learning every technique, weapon, and fighting style. Because she was always with him she had become so familiar around headquarters growing up that when the life caught up with him she was welcomed into the family with open arms. Malice was adopted by the godfather of the infamous Esposito family and had moved into the main estate with him, his wife and their two sons who she had already considered brothers. This gave her the opportunity to learn more than just how to kill flawlessly, she had mastered most elements of this corrupt life.

Malice looked away quickly, hesitant to look back up and see if he was still looking at her she decided to steer her friend and the conversation toward the buffet tables outside. Embarrassed and needing to calm the butterflies in her stomach some food and fresh air was needed. Being shy was unlike her, she was normally overly confident and fearless. She had to be, she was one of the best assassins in Chicago. Making it outside she had noticed a small group of people including her brothers chatting and joined them trying not to stand out. Her brothers had escorted her to the party serving as what her adopted father called her make shift bodyguards. She had laughed at the thought but was happy to have them there now.  After a short time, smiling she excused herself from the group, Walking to a more secluded part of the garden admiring the beautiful flowers and stopping to smell a few. Lost in her own world, she hadn’t noticed the man that was standing by her. Startled she jumped back.

Azoth smiled to himself knowing that he had been caught out staring at the woman in the red dress, her face had flushed slightly and she had changed her focus rather quickly after her last glance over at him. He was amused and intrigued to see her and her companions suddenly but slowly head outside into the gardens. “Well... “ he thought to himself grinning “She’s going to make me chase her is she?” It may have been a few years since he was last in his own home but he still knew every inch of it like it was the back of his hand, couple that with the fact he was a wet boy who could quite literally disappear then it shouldn’t prove too difficult for him to follow her discreetly without being interrupted by one of the numerous guests.

Making his way to one of the numerous ‘not in use’ doors around the main hall of his house he nodded to one of his bodyguards as it was opened for him and he stepped through, finding himself in a long hallway he quickly made his way to the end of it and found himself in front of another large door, this one however led to outside of the property. Once through he found himself on a marble stone balcony that overlooked the estates gardens, using his keen sense of sight his eyes scoured below him trying desperately to see a glimpse of her.

It didn't take him long, how could it? Look at her... That beautifully tanned skin, the luscious long brown hair and that perfect bright red dress up against the greens of the garden made her stand out by a mile. Azoth didn't want to take his eyes off her however he knew from earlier that this woman had shown up with two rather large escorts and wondered if they were keeping an eye on her. Sure enough there they were not too far away from her that they couldn’t see her, mingling with the other guests trying to look like they fitted in with these. Azoth wondered to himself what kind of person would require such large and menacing ‘bodyguards’ to look after her at such a social event but it was questions like that that made her all the more intriguing to him.

With a swift leap Azoth had cleared his walled edge of the balcony and quickly and quietly shimmied his way down the side of the wall and onto the ground waiting below, dusting himself off he was impressed he had managed to make his way down without dirtying his suit. Practically running through the garden heading in her direction he slowed his pace so that he could move himself into position next to her silently. She still hadn’t noticed him as she carefully inspected the rows of flowers and from this distance he had a perfect view of her whole body, in fact he was in a complete daydream captured by all of her which he was suddenly shocked out of it because she had noticed him and jumped back with a startle. Chuckling he leaned forward and offering his hand for hers which she accepted, kissing her hand he introduced himself “Apologies my lady, I did not mean to startle you but now that I am this close to you, I found myself without the ability to speak whilst I admired your beauty, allow me to introduce myself, My name is Azoth and I think you need better bodyguards…”

Flustered and in shock at the extraordinary man standing before her offering his hand, hesitantly, she put her hand out. As he grabbed it she could have sworn her knees gave out and when his soft lips touched her skin she knew her heart had stopped momentarily but it wasn't until she looked into his beautiful eyes did she realize he was different. She felt like she could spend an eternity getting lost in them. There was something about him, something she couldn't quite figure out but she knew then that he was her new mission. She needed to know everything about him. Who he was, why he was here, what he had been through.

She stared at him as he spoke a little confused, "bodyguards?" looking past him she realizes who he is talking about "oh, them. They're my brothers and  they are the least of your worries when I'm around" Laughing slightly she introduced herself. "I'm Malice and it is a pleasure to meet you sir. I apologize for wandering a bit away from the party I didn't mean to intrude. You have a beautiful home and your garden is amazing"

She could feel his eyes never leaving her  "do you mind?" she said as she looked a little further into the garden hinting she wanted to see more. Smiling he motioned for her to go ahead. Walking beside her, stopping every time she did. She knew it wasn't smart to seclude herself from the party and where her brothers could watch her if needed but his presence wasn't threatening and even though she wasn't going to let her guard down she felt safe.

Being completely captivated by her angelic voice, beautiful smile and bright eyes, Azoth found himself having difficulty speaking in response to her questions opting to instead just nod his head like a fool. Her comment about him not needing to be worried about her brothers when she was around took him aback slightly. What did she mean by that? Was she dangerous? Or just making a joke about herself? Everything about her intrigued him however she was causing him to ask more questions than he was getting answers and that meant he was going to have to try harder not to lose his ability to speak in her presence…

On his travels Azoth had heard rumors of a deadly female assassin that had recently arrived in Chicago and although never proven she was being linked to a number of high profile killings across the city. The possibility fascinated him, since Durzo’s death he had barely even thought about another human being except for himself, he kept himself alive by doing what he had to and no more, he got close to no one, he killed anyone and he felt guilt for nothing. However, this female assassin, she had got his attention and is the primary reason for him choosing to make his way back to Chicago.

After nodding eagerly at Malice like a teenager he was now walking beside her and having been out of the lifestyle for a while now he was trying to be as polite as possible. Whilst she was seemingly admiring the flowers he somehow managed to regain some confidence and decided that it would be an advantage of their privacy and find out some information about Malice. A fire lit inside of him as he pondered whether or not this stunningly beautiful lady in front of him could possibly be the assassin he had been looking for, surely not, not so soon. “Sooooo, my dear Malice?. I have been away for a while now however I’d like to think I still manage to keep myself up to date with the majority of Chicago's rich and famous yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before in my life, have you lived here long?

Her father had called her in his study along with a few of the made men in their family. He started to explain that there was a party going to be held by a mobster that had gone missing for quite some years. Someone that was trained by Durzo and together they had managed to take down, at the time, our main competitor. He had warned us that Azoth was not someone to underestimate or trust until we learn the full intentions of him returning to this city of ours. Being the best there was he had chosen me to attend this party. I would never admit that I was more excited to get dressed up than to be the one to see what this man was all about.

Walking beside him she smiled, it was a nice change from the fast and deadly everyday workings she usually had to deal with, even if it was only temporary. She felt almost like a princess that was attending a ball for the first time. The outift, people laughing, the food, the music, the atmosphere and even the prince. Or at least that is what he seemed to be. She had heard very few stories of him and it left her wondering just exactly what he might be capable of. She almost felt a sense of safety around him but knew not to trust it. She had been taught to be smarter and not let her guard down.

"Not many people know me by name but I have lived here all of my life. Didn't move into the actual city until I was 8 though. Stayed out in a more country type area." She looks up at him and smiles. "what about you? where did you go grow up? and what made you come back here?" realizing she probably should have been more tactful about that she blushes. "sorry, I am a bit more nosy than I should be at times."

On his travels back to Chicago, Azoth continued hearing whispers and snippets of information about the mystery female assassin, the more he heard the more in love with her story he became. In just a short amount of time since he had first heard about her he had found himself completely infatuated with finding her, from the moment he woke each day she easily snuck into his thoughts and made himself ask more questions about her than he was getting answers. Answers.. These were what drove him home, faster and faster with each passing day, he had to find out for himself if she was as beautiful, sophisticated and deadly as the woman he was hearing in the stories.

Azoth had just arrived early morning in Chicago and decided to head straight away to his good friend Jacob's house, he had sent a private telegram on ahead informing Jacob of his imminent arrival so it made send heading there first seeing as he was the only one expecting Azoth back. On the way there he passed by a local grocers whose owner was in the process of setting up the stall just outside the window with fresh fruit and vegetables when a noticeboard caught his attention, getting closer he realised it was the daily newspaper board with an interesting headline. “Malice - Assassin leaves signed note with latest victim”. Azoth raised an eyebrow as a grin formed on his lips, “Malice” he thought to himself

Listening intently to Malice talk about herself and then chuckling inwardly when she proceeded to try and laugh off her barrage of questions as mere nosiness, Azoth had to work hard to show the giddiness building up from within him knowing he had finally found her. “I was born in Saint Pauls, Minnesota, but moved to Detroit to live with my Uncle Duzro when my parents were killed in a car crash, he raised me until his unfortunate death 6 years ago. Since then I’ve just been travelling around the country in a bit of a daze, I finally decided that enough was enough and it was time for me to return to Chicago. If I’m honest I think I was starting to miss the finer things in life…” He paused and smiled at her whilst gesturing around at his estate and finally herself to which she replied with a small smile and a gentle flushing of her cheeks.  “What about you, Malice?” His heart jumped slightly as her name passed over his lips “What made you decide to leave the country and come into the city?”

She had never been nervous but this time it was life or death. "it's just another hit, No different than the rest," she spoke to herself trying to calm down.  She knew this would be one of the biggest jobs she had ever been a part of and if she could pull this off then she would have made her family the head of the city. After another deep breath she went over her plan one more time. She had spent weeks watching, following and making notes of the Cardoza family's consigliere's schedule and routines. She knew the only time he ever is without protection is between his home and the Cardoza headquarters. Malice had to be quick and not miss a step. With everything mapped out and ready she set out to take down the competition. Waiting in a dark, secluded area of the man's route home she was set. "Right on time." Malice shot his tires out before getting out of her own car and walking over to see if he was still alive after losing control and crashing into a ditch. "Miss Malice," He struggled to get the words out,"You are a special kind of woman" smirking she finished the job. She pulled a piece of paper out of her pocket and placed it on his lap. Inside read:  "Consider this a warning, I will take you out one by one if you decide you want to still think you run this city." She left a kiss print with her brightest red lipstick on it and signed it with her name.

Blushing at Azoth's insinuation she smiled. "You flatter me." She turned to walk back towards the party knowing it wasn't smart to just keep feeding him info on her. "My mother was killed when I was little and after that my father and I moved to the city. He was my mentor and a great man."quieting for a moment, she remembered all the amazing times they had together and how he had taught her everything she knew now. "He was also killed by a Cardoza family member. I was taken in by the godfather of the Esposito family and gained a couple brothers. Although they had already felt as if they were since I was either with them, my father or Mary" Looking up at Azoth she smiled "that would be their mother. She really is one of the sweetest women I have ever met. Would never hurt a thing." she smiled to herself at what it would be like to not have to kill people and live this way but knew she could never get out of it now. "we are all very close and I am so grateful for them." Realizing she was rambling on she laughed "So now that I have bored you with my life story, what about you? any other family left here? or friends?" Glancing over she could once again see the party area again and her brothers.

Unbeknownst to his companion, Azoth had actually been following the exploits of the assassin known as ‘Malice’ for a number of weeks since he first heard about her. Having acquired numerous pieces of information - mostly through rumors and whispers - about her activities he was still unable to gain any insight as to her appearance, she was that good at what she done that no one had ever caught a glimpse of her. Azoth could hardly believe his luck when his eagerness to interact with a beautiful young woman proved fruitful with his search, the chances that there were two women in Chicago both with the name Malice were slim but for both of them to have had a father had been killed by the Cardoza’s as well?  Azoth shook his head, this was her, the woman he had been searching for and now that he had found her, he had very little intention of losing her.

Thinking his natural charm and wit was working its magic on her, Azoth smirked inwardly when he seen her blush at his comment. His smirk was short lived though as her demeanor suddenly changed and she started walking back towards the party, almost as if she had forced herself to snap out of the clutches of his charm. “Damnit! this is going to be more difficult than I thought” he said to himself as he rushed to catch back up with her. Listening to her talk whilst they walked, Azoth couldn’t help feeling sorry for her due to losing both her parents to murder but he also knew bodies of certain members of the Cardoza family were being found all over the place so he dare not underestimate her. A part of him yearned to find out just how good she was at her profession though and hoped he would get a chance to find out.

Finding themselves nearly back at the party Azoth spotted her protectors, eyes darting furiously trying to find her, finally one spotted them both and nudged the other. Malice was watching also and seeing them catch sight of her she raised her hand up in front of her and waved them off. Grinning at them cheekily he turned his attention back to Malice “I do hope you accept my sincerest apologies for the horrible fate that befell your parents and I do not think you are rambling at all, I’m quite enjoying myself a part of me is saddened that I have a party to host, in fact I would be very honored if you would like to accompany me as my personal guest so that we can continue our discussion and I can show you more of the estate?” She looked at him slightly taken aback to his offer but decided if anything it would be a good opportunity to find out more about him and he still hadn't answered her question about his family! “I would like that very much, thank you Azoth”

Extending his arm out he directed her out of the garden and back up onto the main path up into the large house, gliding past her ‘bodyguards’, Azoth couldn’t help but stare into their eyes still with the smirk on his face. “So” he began “you were asking about my parents? Well there isn’t very much to tell, I lost both my parents as well at a young age and was brought up living with my Uncle Durzo who taught me everything I know, we settled here in Chicago about a decade ago and then he was murdered and I.. I just left and spent a few years travelling around the country until just recently when I decided to come back home. I had being hearing some rumors about some goings on here that interested me and I wanted to come and investigate them for myself, so far they though I’m glad to say are proving correct” Azoth glanced up at her at her as he finished his sentence and as gave her a provocative little wink and wry smile.

Once back in the eye line of her brothers Malice discreetly waved them off letting them know she was ok. She gave them her sweetest smile and although hesitant they knew they could trust her judgment and went back to partying. She looked back over at Azoth as he began speaking again. She gave a gentle smile as he apologized which quickly turned to a bit of shock at him asking her to join him as his personal guest. Every part of her screamed yes, but she remained calm and said “I would like that very much, thank you.” She interlocked her arms in his as they strolled past her brothers. She noticed his smirk towards her brothers, as if he had just beaten them at a game. She laughed quietly to herself at his self confidence.

Her heart broke for him as he spoke of the loss of his parents and growing up with his uncle. The name Durzo was a familiar one but she couldn't quite place who or where it had been spoken about other than when she was warned about Azoth..

She became a bit suspicious when he mentioned his reasoning for returning and giving that wink made her wonder. “had he heard about me? From that far away? He couldn't have”. Her facial expressions not giving anything away, “where did you travel? I bet that was amazing” not having been far outside of the city or area he eyes lit up. “One day I will travel all over this world and see amazing things, meet amazing people and food. I want to have food from all over. ”embarrassed by her sudden excitement over the topic she looked away shyly. “Sorry, I just really want to see somewhere other than here.” she looked back up at him. Her eyes locking in with his she felt she could just stand there and get lost in them forever. Thanks to a guest coming up to say hi and shake their hands breaking the moment. They all exchanged pleasantries and had small talk before moving on. “What rumors have you heard, I will do my best to confirm any details.” she smirked

Delighted at the fact that Malice hadn’t recoiled in horror at his request to accompany him, Azoth held his hand out in the direction the mansion and gestured to her for them to head that way. As they grew closer to the main door, the imposing size of the house could not be ignored and Azoth found himself dumbstruck at just how much he had forgotten about his home whilst he was travelling. The doorman, seeing them both coming, quickly opened the door to allow them entrance, nodding gratuitously as he passed, Azoth cheekily held out his looped arm for Malice and once her arm was interlocked with his, he led her back into the party.

Thinking back to how quiet, secluded and peaceful the garden was, Azoth now wished he had just remained there rather than come back into this lion pit. It seemed like everyone in attendance was desperate for his attention, “such is the life of a wealthy philanthropist” he mused, especially one that has been away for such a long time. Unfortunately all he wanted to do was sit down and relax in the company of his beautiful companion yet he was currently having to engage with the majority of Chicago’s elite.

Every so often he found himself looking over to Malice, more so to try and gauge the effect that this constant harassment was having on her however even time he checked there she was bright eyed, stunning and enthusiastically interacting with everyone like it was something she dealt with every day.

After what had seemed like an eternity Azoth finally managed to have some time to himself and decided that he had put off this moment for too long already tonight. He spotted Malice speaking to some old and important looking couple, as he approached he apologised for interrupting and requested that he steal malice away from them for ‘something very important’ as he put it. Taking her hand and winking at her, he quickly turned away and led her towards the huge foyer of the house. As they drew closer he felt her had tighten around his as if she was already anticipating where his mind was at, he wasn’t sure if good sign or not so he stopped just short of the foyer and turned to her and motioned his head towards the group of dancers and questioningly tilted it awaiting her reaction. She blushed, averted her eyes down to the ground nervously and then finally looked back up at him with a grin and nodded her head.

She turned elegantly, her body in tune with the slow music. Yet, there was a sort of harshness to her, like she was someone who shouldn’t be underestimated, although Azoth didn’t quite care at that moment. Was it because he was head over heels with a woman he hardly knew? The warmth between them grew more powerful by the second. His heartbeat was growing steadily along with it. Their dance was perfect; everything from their breathing to how their feet moved stayed in sync. If, by the end of this dance his breath is taken away, he would know the exact reason why.

Once the applause of the audience had died down Azoth led Malice off the dance floor and across to the bar area. He had a quick word with the bartender and within a few minutes they were both being sat down at a quaint little table that had been clearly hastily setup in a secluded corner of the room. The bartender took their drinks order and ran off back to the bar, “Do you always get what you want?” Malice queried Azoth. With a smirk Azoth replied “Nearly”.
