A warning. Started by: Tyrion on Jun 29, '10 19:40

Tyrion you really believe that be cause you sit in the powerhouse4 that is New York that I'm going to be scared of you. Suck the back end of my hairy right one.

You talk about respect, yet when you come out here with your well scripted speeches it's clear to all that your just digging at something that others left unsaid.

So I tell you this now you piece of shit. Meet me in LA in 20 minutes and we will settle this man to man.

Or are you to scared to face me yourself and need to have your people eliminate me?

Tyrion looks up at the crowd gathered around the fallen Don.

Dante has fallen here because of this. Now regardless of his reasons and even his outburst, I will hold no grudge against his line and be sincere in my hope that his after life provides him peace. He lost his temper and spoke to me in a way I could not excuse. That is the end of the matter and I will hear no ill will toward his memory.

May he rest in peace.

Sam looks around and finds a dry spot to stand on. Ok where were we? The assembled mobsters mouths drop open, one guy even does a face palm. Don Tyrion, I think you might have misunderstood my meaning. I whole heartedly agree with you that Omerta shouldn't be used as an excuse to be mute. I also feel that you and any other person in a bold suit might be in the unique position to comment on the types of leaders we might have and the amount of involvement they may have within their families. But most of us, myself included, if omerta is in place and functioning, would have no idea what really goes on. In my view, talking of impenertable walls, and catagorizing leaders is fine down on OOC avenue but borders on disrespectful here. Certainly no fingers were pointed and no offense was meant, so my comment was supposed to be a mild rebuke to those who should not be in a position to know anything, speaking as if they do based off street presence. To be honest, recent conversations with leaders such as yourself and my own history with the speakers had me dancing around the issue rather than hitting it head on.

Report Post Tip

Alessandro while walking through the street on his way back home from the airport notices a big crowd, he hears the conversation and notices the heat level it went up to, he remains silent watching and listening to the mobsters talking then outs his suitcase down and decides to speak.

I agree of some of what Don Tyrion said, but not most of it, what's being mute mean? or being actively participating in the streets?

Is the mute the one who doesn't start debates? or is never a part of any? or them both? I'd love to know your idea of what a mute is anyway, sir.

I am not sure, but I believe if you can participate whenever you feel needed, not jumping in every silly conversation started by a stupid mafioso seeking some light spotted on him by speaking in the streets, you aren't a mute.

I myself am a busy man, I am a lawyer in my country - yes a lawyer I need to know the law well to defend myself if I was ever charged - and travel there every now and then to take care of the business and attend courts, I don't have time to attend most of the street speeches, I sometime don't have time to read Journals or papers about things in our world or even not interested in them or sometimes they are to stupid for me to waste my time on but does that make me a mute? I don't think of it that way, I speak when I feel needed, I am not a man looking for fame.

At one point you were pointing out that some Crew Leaders around our country are mutes and that shows bad example to their members (according to you, Crew Leaders lead by example) so, before pointing other leaders out for being mute and trying to change them, don't you think you should talk your fellow leader in the city of New York first to get them out of the mute mood they are in first? There's a wise saying in my country means "Him who lacks something can't give it away."

I have one last question though, where's the warning in your speech sir? because It seems like It flew over my head.

Speak up. If you never say a word, who will care when you die?

I believe that's the most true part in your speech sir, which for you have my out most respect.

Tyrion looks at Sam

Yes I can see your point. No offense was taken. It is certainly a different situation for a leader than a family member.

Turning to Alessandro he goes on.

You have questions, raising possibly controversial points but you have done so with a level of consideration so I am happy to entertain them.

Is the mute the one who doesn't start debates? or is never a part of any? or them both?

In a normal mobster's case, either or. In the case of a leader, both.

I sometime don't have time to read Journals or papers about things in our world or even not interested in them or sometimes they are to stupid for me to waste my time on but does that make me a mute? I don't think of it that way, I speak when I feel needed, I am not a man looking for fame.

You answered your own question there. You are not a man looking to lead, so, the body of my commentary and the values I outlined in it, do not directly apply to you. If a person's time constraints do not allow them time to even read through the streets let alone participate, then I would suggest they reconsider any aspirations they may have toward leadership.

This would be best responded to by my fellow New Yorkers. I spend my days with the leaders in New York. I know their situations and feelings and they know mine. I would not presume to put words in any of their mouths and will stand aside that they may speak for themselves.

Please keep in mind one thing. This is my view and my value I present. I am not here waving a mandate or laying down a law. I present my opinion about leadership qualities that I believe are sorely lacking in too many places in our society and the detrimental effects that is having on society as a whole.

I think that if I were in a leading position and still didn't have enough time to satisfy everyone by my street presence, that doesn't make me a bad example for my members, I believe that If I can participate less but be more effective or make sense, is better than another leader being very active in the streets but not effective or talking nonsense.

I totally respect your opinion and I believe it's a reasonable one, and that's why I am standing here talking to you sir.

Report Post Tip

here's my take. if you don't like what i think, thats ok, the world would be boring otherwise.

being totally silent in the streets in not necessarily a bad thing. if you don't have something useful to say, dont. no reason to add useless dribble if you have nothing to add to a conversation.

that said, if you are in a position of leadership, and i include(to a point) left and right hands in my assesment, you will need to weigh in on some things. does that mean you need to put in your 2 cents on everything that is said? no, not at all. however, there are, on occasion, questions or thoughts put up that are important to our world. in that case, yes, i would perfer that leaders put in an opinion or an answer. if you don't know? ok fine. but if a question is asked taht is not crew specific, yes i would like to see the CLs and hands work together to educate the new players.

ok thats my 2 cents.

If there are leaders who would be not effective or talking nonsense, then surely they shouldn't be leading at all? But yes I see your point, quality helps a great deal. I'll take one quality post a week over a dozen pointless ones any day.

Phil,

What can I say man? I totally agree with you. With everything you said. Thanks for giving us your opinion.

Alessandro-Dionisio, I hope I pronounced that correctly. Well, to clear up any confusion about if the other leaders of New York are mute or not let me just say that I may not speak all the time. In fact, I hardly ever speak. But when I do, it's because I feel it's worthy of my time. Now I've only been a leader for a short time, and in the time I've been one my time has mostly been spent working on my family and getting things figured out. But it's been almost a month now and things are settling down.

Tyrion's speech is about opening up and talking. Hell the warning that has gone over your head is the fact that if you are a leader, and you are not speaking and making yourself known to the masses then you are going to be forgotten shortly after death. That's the warning. I think Tyrion's managed that well. My ancestors come from the time when the takedowns happened. I remember reading about one leader when my namesake ancestor, the very first PhelixTheSphinx, I think his name was SoundWarnings. Was he a good leader? I don't know. Could have been. The problem is that he's barely remembered, in fact, I'm probably one of the only people that know of him now...and you know why? Because he died shortly after my ancestor hit these shores. It was the first take down my ancestor bore witness to. That's the ONLY reason why he is remembered.

Indeed this would be best answered by one of us. A few things really, in accordance with Don Tyrion, I do agree that we should make an effort to be out here and give our views. As said before, new blood pouring in with great potential is noticeable from a distance. These new members are the ones who will be taking up our positions one day when we are dead and long gone.

I have always been a firm believer that untested young blood should be given the chance to make a name for themselves. But we have slacked off for far too long. Stagnancy knows no boundaries and his crept in in all corners of our society. By understanding the importance of street presence, you can really appreciate the level at which standards are set for a particular era in leadership. I have wandered these streets for months now but don't you for one moment think that I have not considered throwing my two cents here and there.

Now I do use the word "you" here in a very casual way directed at you people. Don't take it personal, I really don't need some nut outside my very own HQ crying about fingers being pointed.

before pointing other leaders out for being mute and trying to change them, don't you think you should talk your fellow leader in the city of New York first to get them out of the mute mood they are in first?

I really don't see any fingers being pointed at just those leaders outside of New York, Alessandro. Tyrion, being himself, presented a well thought out discussion in which he made valid points to which most of us if not all leaders appreciate on some level. It just falls on those who take it to heart and try to make a change from here on out. Excluding the late Don Balboni who did take it rather personal, GRHS.

however, there are, on occasion, questions or thoughts put up that are important to our world. in that case, yes, i would perfer that leaders put in an opinion or an answer. if you don't know? ok fine. but if a question is asked taht is not crew specific, yes i would like to see the CLs and hands work together to educate the new players.

That's the point to all of this Philli-stein. Setting an example, giving new upcoming leaders the skills to present themselves in a manner to which they can get their point across effectively and more importantly, doing it in a respectful manner. Who better to teach them then those who have all the experience in the world?

I have one last question though, where's the warning in your speech sir? because It seems like It flew over my head.

The warning was the degradation of our future if we don't take the initiative to make some changes now. Appreciate the golden few who take their time out to leave a lasting impression on the younger minds wandering these streets looking for topics of substance.

I didn't say he pointed out anyone outside of New York City, I knew he was generalizing and my point is, that before pointing anyone out at something I should fix it in myself first. I believe that Don Tryion -as a leader in the City of NY- doesn't resemble himself only but you guys as well.

Thank you Don Phelix and Don TheDean for explaining the point I missed, I just landed here after a long flight and had been awake too long so my brain isn't working very well.

Report Post Tip

Tyrion, I as well remember the importance of speaking on these streets.  I remember leaders being picked off because they were to quiet, and perhaps deserving mobsters being passed over for auth because they were not on these streets as much as others...

These however seem to be different times.

There were many more current events to comment on.  There would be something daily or at least weekly that caught our whole community off guard and warranted a speach.  Also, there seemed to be a lot more creativity on the part of our fellow mafiosos.  While back then I remember it wasn't uncommon for an original and engaging speach to be shouted, now we seem to be recycling debates or having mobsters share stories of there day (OOC: roleplaying threads).  While there is nothing wrong with the latter, it is very difficult to find a truly original and captivating story that warrants me listening to every word that everyone has to say about the speach.

Unfortunately I come here with no solutions... Just opinions.  But I do see your point Tyrion

Report Post Tip

Tyrion shakes Stacks by the hand.

It doesn't require you to have a solution. Your observations are valid as they stand. Yes there was a greater diversity of both events and speeches back then. There are reasons that contributed to that that don't exist in our current world. I appreciate that topics for discussion are somewhat cyclical and to an extent that's unavoidable. It has to be accepted to a degree. You can actually tell a lot about a person's ability from seeing how they readdress a well used topic and make it interesting. Obviously any genuine creativity will stand out. I'm a realistic man, I don't expect jaw dropping innovation every week, just a visible presence.

Thanks for your input.
