Ever since I was a kid I've always been intrigued by organized crime and all that good stuff. Since I've been playing this game, I've also developed a passion for the literary arts as well. I find myself reading and writing more in my spare time due to this game. (This is my first RP and I haven't picked up a pencil and put it to paper in about a year or so) I've been looking for some good reading material related to, or anything about the history of, the Mafia, and I'd like some suggestions from anyone else who might have the same interest as I do. Websites, books, movies, whatever it is, I'd appreciate anything you guys can give me.

Read The Family by Mario Puzo, its a fictionalised account of the Borgia family. 

Read anything by Mario Puzo basically. most of his works are about the mafia.

I'd recommend: "The Ice Man by Phillip Carlo.

It is a biography of Richard Kuklinski, arguably one of the most brutal, most renowned mafia contract killers ever.

There is a series of books about the rise and 'fall' of the Philly Mob written by a guy named George Anastasia. He's a writer for a popular Philly newspaper and covers al the mob-related stories. His books are fantastic and are based on interviews with cooperators as well as FBI tape. They cover Bruno, Testa, Scarfo, Stanfa, and Merlino. I'd sugest them in the following order:

"Blood and Honor"

"The Goodfella Tapes"

"The Last Gangster"

I'm inclined to agree with RoyDeMeo here, I have The IceMan myself after seeing a documentry, though some other folks believe he lies about what he says, I'm sure you will make your own assumations.

I'd also look out the real Donnie Brasco and Henry Hills stuff, apart from goodfellas (or whatever the book was named), I'm sure there was also something named hoodlums and "insert name here" by him.

I could google for you but so could you, this is off the top of my head :)

But The Iceman is immense.

I have read a few mafia related books Puzo's books are great but if you want some non fictional accounts of mafia I would recommend.

Boss of Bosses: The FBI and Paul Castellano by Joseph F. O'Brien. O'Brien was the FBI agent who worked to bug and bust "Big Paul" Boss of the Gambino Family.

Underboss: Sammy the Bull Gravano's Story of Life in the Mafia by Peter Maas. Sammy the Bull as you may know was pretty much the worlds most famous rat!

Both were good books and page turners to say the least.
