William's Awakening Started by: WilliamPratt on Jul 16, '17 20:44

William knelt over his latest victim, licking his lips - ridding them of the last bits of blood. She had been of nobility, which enticed William greatly. Though for the most part human blood tasted the same across the species, he preferred to feast on those with royal blood. The woman at his feet was related to the Queen in some way, as William had found out during their date earlier that evening.

He had a knack for scouting out noblewomen. He would catch their eye with his charming looks and hook them with his poetic words and philosophies, only to lure them into a false sense of security before draining them of their blood.

Recently the thrill had been losing its appeal. It became much easier and far quicker to assimilate into whichever role he needed to portray in order to feast. He craved more, a purpose. That type of ideology was uncommon among his kind, however this troubled William naught. He knew he was one of the more fierce beings around, except perhaps his sire.

He looked up suddenly, hearing footsteps approaching.

"No, I swear John... A whole new lifestyle will come of this. A group of us are going over next week to get in on it."

"America? No... No, I assure you, there will be far too much bloodshed there. The prospect of fortune and new land than is more than enough to turn even the most noble of men, mad."

William blended in with the shadows so well that neither men noticed him. As they continued to walk in his direction, William mulled over what they had been discussing. He had debated going to America for months now; a new feeding ground, a young government, and new challenges. The men came upon the lifeless body laying on the ground and they stopped.

"What the fuck...?"

Those were the last words the man would ever speak; William dropped a well placed elbow upon both men's necks and smirked as they crumpled to the ground. Too easy. With little effort he quickly depleted their blood, disrobing the gentleman who had spoken of traveling to America. Rifling through the pockets, William retrieved the boat ticket made to John Wilbur, and donned his clothing.

Some time much, much later...

William sat up in a panic, clutching at his chest where his heart used to beat. Scrambling to his feet, he took a moment to observe his surroundings. A newspaper lie on the ground nearby. Picking it up quickly he noted the date, 1929. The paper looked faded, oxidated and crumpled. From this he ascertained it had been a few years since its publication.

Continuing to scan around the immediate area, he grinned. There were broken crosses scattered upon the ground, collecting dust. In fact everything seemed to be covered in dust; the walls, the floors, even the copious cobwebs dangling everywhere seemed to be coated in it.

A pair of ornate coffins stood side by side not too far off, dead flowers in random piles around its base. Curiosity got the best of him. William approached the coffins and lifted one of the lids with ease - though it took more effort than it should have. He felt weak, as if it had been years since he fed. Shaking off the weariness, William peered inside the coffin.

There was no body inside it, and he could tell from the smell that it had been laying vacant for quite some time. Deciding to crawl inside it for a nap, William pulled the lid shut. He couldn't exactly sleep, but even the immortal folk liked to lie down with their eyes shut for awhile.

He couldn't shake the discomfort he felt. He needed answers. How long had he been here? How did he get here? What would he do now? The lifestyle he'd been accustomed to had long since grown tiresome and boring for him. As he laid in the coffin contemplating all of these things, he came to one solid conclusion.

He would wait until morning, and then set out to make new acquaintances, for he knew that it was a new era; and that the life of drunken detachment and debauchery that he was so familiar with would not be as successful as it had been in years past.
