Perhaps it's been suggested before, forgive me if that be the case. How about a way to track how many "points" you have in the streets? Even if it were trimmed down to just the top 5 posters list shows how many individual points each person has adding to the total amount by district. Another way to make posts more 'competitive' so to speak and could potentially increase activity?
Just a thought :) |

The problem that I have with this is that... hmmm... im going to try to word this and will find it difficult... Posts by people who like posting are good Posts by peope who want points more than they like posting... generally are not as good If we "gave away the metrics" we use, I think it would encourage more BS.
Ill take 10 posts by newbies who are honing there craft and are not that good yet rather than 1 'i did it just for the points'. |

Ah, I see. So RP points granted aren't based on an automated system but rather read by administration and "judged" so to speak? |

No, they are automated, meaning, if you say you had 37 points, and then you posted and saw you now have 43, you know you got 5 points. You could start dissecting and playing with this to reverse engineer exactly how it works and its criteria. When it all comes down to exact math, then, the journey there gets lost and its all about the final math rather than the content. |

I have to agree with Squishy. There's already way too much crap being posted just to be posted. This would just encourage more nonsense. (I, myself, could be guilty of said nonsense, as I just don't see enough to get super involved)
But...when you first posted this, that was the first thought that crossed my mind, the second was: Without revealing the math, how plausible would it be for the player base to be able to vote on a particular post, much like tipping, but instead up votes gain X% increase to a max gain, just for the sake of numbers, say, 1% on top of what a normal post would bring , while down votes lose X% until 0 increase for spam stuff? The con I think of off the top of my head would be the clique nature, folks just +1'ing because a friend posted, be it well written or not. |

No, yeah, after hearing this explained I definitely agree with Squishy as well.
Appreciate you listening though! :) |

I've often toyed with the idea of upvoting/downvoting, but the userbase as a whole is unable to be impartial and base it on content, they would overwhelmingly do it based up on the poster (knowingly or unknowingly) which defeats the entire purpose of crowd sourcing the ratings to get the best to the top. |

My first thought when reading this is that we've already got a display showing the top posters and the points a district has? Sure, it's the points shared between the VIP posters of a whole district, but the numbers are there - as well as a league table comparing all of the cities current post standings. I guess someone could set up and eventually figure out the points system if they stayed as a single member crew, but I don't imagine that's likely to happen. I don't think I'd care for anymore information about the posting system than is already there. |

Forgive my ignorance, but could I not figure out the math in the same way using the current scoring system? If I were to go into a district by myself and control who posts what when, I could start reverse working the math, no? |

Dexter, that's what I meant when I said: "I guess someone could set up and eventually figure out the points system if they stayed as a single member crew" So either you're not alone in your ignorance, or one would assume it is achievable. I imagine it'd be simpler to set up a one member crew though, then you'd be the top poster regardless, and you'd see how many points you get for a specific post and how the points system rewards specific things like views. With a bit of effort, I'm sure you could figure out the reward per character and the degradation rate. I doubt it'd be a quick job though. You'd almost certainly be gunned down before you could figure it out as well. |

Aye, I agree with you -- that wasn't in response to you :) |

| The work to figure it out in that special use case you suggested would rarely happen for the time necessary to figure it out, and that opportunity isn't available to any regular joe. As a regular member seeing your individual stats would take anyone just a mere days. | |
