Contemplating Death. Started by: Reason on Jul 26, '17 17:33

Reason walked into a bar, visible to others that the day had taken toll on him. However, he felt as if a whole month had taken toll on him even though he’s been in this line of work for a small amount of time. Truth be told, he never wanted this work, but his cousin Honesty kept tying to drag him into it. Ironically, it finally worked when he passed away as Reason felt he had to, at the very least, represent somewhat his heritage line. He knew he wouldn’t do much during his time in the Mafia, but he didn’t care, since he never aspired to much in life.

As Reason took a seat on a stool at the bar, his head down low, a stranger approached him seeming concerned judging by the tone of his voice.

''Hey there, what’s wrong?’’

''Ah, I wouldn’t want to bother you.’’

The bar was really quiet that night as it usually was. It was more so a place to drink sorrows rather than socialize, even with some dozens of people in the establishment per night. In particular, this bar usually was filled with mobsters looking to gather their thoughts. It is deemed as an establishment of peace, where violence isn’t allowed; a sort of temporary safe-haven.

''If I wouldn’t have wanted to be bothered, I wouldn’t have approached you. Come on, we all need someone to talk to in life,’’ the stranger said.

''Well, my cousin, Honesty, has just recently passed away and there’s something dawning on me since I’ve come around these grounds.’’ The mention of Honesty’s name drew the attention of most mobsters in the bar, so they turned around to have a better listen-in.

''I’ve witnessed someone’s death today for the first time in my life… And it is utterly different from what I thought it would be like. I went to Honesty’s apartment after that, seeking some guidance as to what he did to overcome others’ deaths. However, all I’ve seen and read in the journals I’ve found were war plans, detailed notes about people and notes about important conversations that he’s had with others... And the names of all the people he’d layed to rest; that’s what's troubling me most. So, I’ve been contemplating this question I have wedged in my head today and I just can’t provide an answer to it.’’

Reason finally became aware of the people looking at him, some sipping ale, beer or smoking cigars, and looked up at the crowd.

''Please tell me, why go on living when, to walk one more day, you have to end an other’s life?’’
