Mars, we have a lot of ideas when it comes to advertisements and marketing the game. The problem with small market games is that it is a vicious circle: To get users, you need money for advertising. To get money for advertising, you need to get users.

The bigger games out there actually get corporate sponsors that foot their advertising bills in exchange for a portion of the game or being able to place advertisements on the game. MafiaReturns has never been a game to acquiesce to advertisement banner requests, so we need to make the most out of advertising on our own dime.

Unfortunately, because we need to build our reserves in between advertising splurges it can be feast or famine as a result. We might put $5,000 into advertising and only see $2,000 back, so we know that approach is not one we would try again.

As ready and prepared as we are for increased player counts, we still have to have patience until we can find an advertising combination that works for us. As great as getting ranked on national websites is, it is an unrealistic goal as of right now. We need to master our niche market of text based role-play games before trying our hand at mainstream ventures.

I just want to point out that I found MR on one of these MMORPG sites we vote on. I went out in search of something a little different of course, but ended up here. Let me also say, the ONLY reason I stayed was because I had an excellent sponsor who RP'd his recruitment message..but now most of the site is in the habit of calling that 'whoring' ...I call it retention.�

I couldn't agree more, this is almost identical to my own experience.

The whoring debate rolls on in the Streets at with regular frequency but doogle is right. When a new member reaches our shores for the very first time, much like anything in life first impressions very much count.

I do have a question though...seeing as how the game really took off when it featured on the FHM top 100 games list, is there a way to associate the game with other brands going forward? different magazines, features on different techy/ gaming sites, anything like that?

MR has never been on that list... Mafia.org was.

I can't remember how I found the game, probably it was some random link or a banner that got me here. Doesn't matter really, if by doing the voting we can attrack some new guys/gals in here, then by all means, click the ++++++ signs. With more people on MR = more fun.
