Dead Poet.

"I have a beast, an angel, and a madman in me."

Tailored by Storm

Louis 'Fats' Del Rossi

He sported a cream jacket over a short sleeved white button down shirt and dark jeans with a slight rolled upturn at the cuff, showing the loose tongue and laces of a well worn pair of dusty old brown boots.

His dark blonde hair slicked back, or the fringe flicked about, depending on the time of day and if he cared enough to use petroleum jelly when he awoke that afternoon.

"Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It's the one and only thing you have to offer."

"Write about what really interests you, whether it is about real things or imaginary things, and nothing else."

"...you are a writer the moment you start writing, not when you've sold your first book."

"Better to write for yourself and have no public, than to write for the public and have no self."

"A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom. He has no master except his own soul, and that I am sure, is why he does it."

"Become more aware of what's really worth your energy."

"Words are the bones. Writing is the lungs. Reading is like breathing."

"There is a ruthlessness to the creative act. It often involves a betrayal of the status quo."

"There is nothing to writing. All you do is open a vein and bleed."

"The good writers touch life often. The mediocre ones run a quick hand over her. The bad ones rape her and leave her for the flies."

“Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”

"It’s time to stop being vague. If you wish to be an extraordinary person, if you wish to be wise, then you should explicitly identify the kind of person you aspire to become.”

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

"A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives."

"I dont want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me."

"As far back as I could remember, I always wanted to be a gangster."

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

- Robert Frost

so you want to be a writer?

if it doesn't come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
fame,
don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don't do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.
