Celaena is a nineteen-year-old girl of Trinidadians and Norwegian heritage who is being forced into an arranged political marriage by her father Quinn, one of the elders of Breizh. Celaena’s mother Nora on the other hand, wants her only daughter to be happy so on Celaena's wedding day she helps her to flee far away. One of the servants Inga spies on Nora and goes snitches in hopes to gain favor with Quinn.

Quinn and the other elders are outrages by Nora actions that she immediately thrown in the dungeon on her return to await trial for her deeds

Celaena's world is turn upside down on hearing the fate of her mom as she stows away on a ship, destination unknown

Quinn sends Bo and Roar out on a mission to bring Celaena back

It’s been two years since she left, in those past two years she been living out of a suitcase constantly on the run from her father’s henchmen Bo and Roar.
