Character Bio
Vincenzo "Vinnie the Fox" Santoro was born in 1926 in the bustling Little Italy neighborhood of Detroit, a melting pot of immigrant cultures and a hotbed of underground activity. From a young age, Vinnie exhibited a sharp wit and a keen sense of strategy, earning him the nickname "The Fox" among his peers. His father, Giovanni Santoro, was a respected tailor who had come to America seeking a better life, but had discovered there was more money in racketeering than in tailoring.
During the Prohibition era, Giovanni began his ascent in the world of organized crime. Initially, he ran small errands for local mob bosses, but his clever maneuvers and knack for evading law enforcement quickly caught the attention of higher-ups in the syndicate.
Giovanni's rise was marked by his involvement in various illicit activities, including bootlegging, gambling, and loan sharking. His reputation for being both cunning and ruthless in business dealings earned him a loyal following and an aura of respect, but also a trail of enemies. Despite the inherent dangers, Giovanni always managed to stay one step ahead, orchestrating his moves with the precision of a chess grandmaster.
Vinnie knew little of his father's business only that he was highly successful. That changed when he was drafted in World War II leaving behind a 14 year old Vinnie, his little sister Angie, and his mother, Maria. Forced to now fend for themselves, his father's enemies took their opportunity and forcibly erased all of Giovanni's former influence and at the behest of his former associates, Maria took the family east to Philadelphia.
Giovanni never made it back from Europe and the post-War years, were hard on the family. Now a man grown, Vinnie was determined to carve out something better for his mother and little sister. He'd learned the harsh lessons of life in the mob in the years following the demise of his father's business and he wasn't prepared to let that happen again.
After identifying the local mob boss, Don Vittorio, he began work at The Bear Lounge, a swanky nightclub recently opened in the heart of Bella Vista. His role was to keep things in order and make sure that the family got their cut of whatever was being taken. It wasn't much, but it was a start and he was going to make damn sure that it turned into something more.
