Daisy “Quickshift” Acosta, born to Italian immigrants on the Lower East Side, earned her nickname in her teens by outrunning the police in stolen cars. She had a natural gift behind the wheel, and by the age of 19, she was ferrying bootlegged crates of Canadian whiskey from the border to various nameless, yet well guarded warehouses in the city.

She rarely spoke but when she did, people listened because her knowledge of the city was unrivalled; she knew every highway, road, alleyway and police blind spot. She knew that if she had been born a man, she'd be sitting at the table of one of the major families, dictating business instead of hustling them for a fraction of what the families earned from her skill behind the wheel. It was obvious that if she wanted a bigger slice of the action, she would need to seek out bigger and better opportunities.
