What I would say is that is exactly how it always used to be.

Even when you had multiple families in one city, they weren't all allies like they are now, really just one large family. They used to be independent factions and you could only rely on you and your own family for everything you needed.

I believe that setting up on your own will give you a much better experience of actually leading than serving as a Captain behind a Godfather will. The relationships you have with the other families are yours to make and yours to lose. You can shape your own family as you like, without a Godfather dictating to you how it will go.

Obviously this has an accompanied risk, but to anyone who thinks they deserve to lead, this is as real as an opportunity as you're going to get.

Godfather Gwarble I agree this is taking La Costra Nostra back to the old days of citties being filled with families that had no affliation with each other they just look out for themselves. It will be interesting to see how the landscape of Chicago pans out.

I will stand here and congratulate Don Hickey, not because he is an old friend but because he has the balls to venture into the unknown. I am sure he will have every success and return Chicago back to the powerhouse it should be.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion as misguided as they may be. I, for one, would like to absolutely congratulate Hickey on his new HQ. It takes alot of courage to step out on your own and especially under these circumstances. It's a brilliant opportunity for Hickey, and others who take advantage of this offer, to prove themselves to be a great crew leader.

Godfathers auth people for many different reasons. Some prefer to auth their friends. Some prefer to auth their hardest workers. Some prefer to auth their best shooters. In the end it is up to each Godfather to decide who and why they auth who they do. This is no different and neither Hickey nor Godfather Gwarble deserve the lack of respect being shown by some here.

I applaud Godfather Gwarble's willingness to open the city of Chicago up to provide our world with some variety and chance for those who desire one. This is not just a money making venture. Gwarble stood to make more money by authing Hickey in Philadelphia and collecting taxes from the crew. Instead he has provided a way to bring life back to the city of Chicago and give people an alternative way to operate their business interests.

As for any idea that Hickey will be on his own let me just remind you that, while Godfather Gwarble is going to allow these Chicago HQs to run independently, the city of Chicago still belongs to Godfather Gwarble.

Captain Stubings you clearly did not fully read what anyone said and rather jumped to... what was the word you used?  Oh yes a misguided conclusion.  Everyone here congratulated Gwarble on what is clearly a good idea.  Allowing people who maybe wouldn't have had an opportunity otherwise to have a family to be able to set up in Chicago, and make a some money off of it is clearly a great idea.  No one is arguing anything to the contrary.

I merely am saying I am not congratulating anyone for what is essentially buying a family.  I never said anything bad about Hickey because I know nothing about him/her.  But this is not a Godfather authorizing the most worthy candidate to lead a family so no congratulations are in order.  Rather I would wish Hickey the best of luck cause there is definitely an uphill battle for him/her.  But also clearly they were in the right place and the right time.

Actually I did clearly hear what was said and understood it fully. Perhaps I did not make myself clear. The reason why Hickey was authed does not make the fact that Godfather Gwarble did indeed auth him any less valid. You're clearly trying to place Hickey as a second class crew leader simply because you disagree with the requirements that Gwarble has set to become a crew leader in Chicago. I see that as disrespecting, not just Hickey, but Godfather Gwarble as well. Maybe one day you'll reach a position where your requirements matter but as of right now they do not. You are welcome to withhold your congratulations but take your disrespect with you.

Captain_Stubings is most likely responding to your obvious implication that without paying Gwarble tribute to set up a headquarters in Chicago, Hickey would be unable to achieve the position of Crewleader on his own, which is inaccurate.

I have to admit I am confused by your 'sink or swim mentality' reference, or why you believe it will be an uphill battle for him considering you admittedly know nothing about Hickey. But I'll assume you know what you're talking about being that your roots in This Thing of Ours go all the way back to when leaders from the same city didn't get along with one another. I believe that was last week.

Wow!!  How quickly  people can try to take your words and wrap them into something that will support there own perceptions.

Oscar, there was no obvious implication that without paying Gwarble, Hickey would never have received a leader position.  I don't know whether or not they would have.  I am however aware that in this arrangement Hickey was able to purchase leadership through Gwarble.  My sink or swim phrase comes from the fact that I like to use catchy phrases and perception that Gwarble, although the current Godfather of Chicago, would like leaders to set up there and be as independent as possible.  He said himself that leaders ties and alliances are theirs to make.  To me this means either the leader will prove their worth and have a strong family, or show there lack of leadership and soon swim with the fishes at the bottom of the sea.

Captain Stubing, please do not try to change what I said as me disrespecting Gwarble or Hickey.  I never said Hickey was a 2nd class leader, nor did I speak illy of Gwarble auth,  in fact if you listened carefully I like his plan.  I am merely holding out congragulating Hickey.  Please don't turn that into some disrespect lesson that I need to be taught.

Over time people will forget the manner by which they came to their roles and focus only upon what they achieved.
