Prayers for Las Vegas Started by: MissNiki on Oct 02, '17 11:11

Out of game of course. Can we all just take a moment to pray for the people killed in last nights shooting at the Jason Aldean Concert. Last count there are more than 50 dead, and 200 injured.

Report Post Tip

Sick! Absolutely disgusting. Why why why would someone do that !

64 year old random white guy... why the fuck !

America needs gun control. Something has to be done !

Report Post Tip

I don't understand how he was allowed to keep all those weapons in his hotel room.

Report Post Tip

Well not allowed but managed * just don't understand how it went unnoticed.

Report Post Tip

The only thing I can figure, is that the guns came apart. and he requested no room service.. i just don't know. It's terrifying that someone, a normal looking older man could do something so heinous.

Report Post Tip

RIP :(

Fully automatics are extremely illegal. Where the hell he got it is a good question.

Report Post Tip

I read that it was a modified gun. I've seen one that was modified to make it fully auto, and it was really kind of scary how fast the ammo poured out of it.

We do have gun control. You cannot legally buy a gun without a background check or without proper ID. You cannot carry a gun in most states without a license to carry (LTC). That even goes hand and hand with concealed carry permits. I don't know what its going to take to stop these. However we have gun control measures in place. If someone wants to do harm, they will find a way. A truck, a knife, a suicide vest, they'll find a way.

Fully automatics are extremely illegal. Where the hell he got it is a good question.

So fully automatic weapons aren't fully illegal. What I mean is, you can have a license which is HARD to get, to buy one legally.

The latest reports are saying he had an AR with a bump stock. A bump stock is something you can buy that helps with rates of fire. You can hear how the rates of fire are changing in the videos. It stops, and then starts again. Its not a constant fully automatically weapon.

Please don't think I'm not saddened by the situation. It is an extremely sad situation. I wish the guy did take his own life so that he could serve some sort of punishment/pain. I really just wanted to explain to others who may not be from the US or people who don't know guns, some of the facts.

People are not dead because of the firearms.  They are dead because of some sick bastard.  America needs better mental health care.  Men are taught at a young age to suck it up, bottle it up, dont display emotion, dont ask for help, bla bla bla.

Dude was mental and needed help.  If he didnt have access to firearms, it could have been a bulldozer (or insert one of the other thousands of ways crazy people accross the world express their crazy).

We do have gun control. You cannot legally buy a gun without a background check or without proper ID.

We need a national database that is real time.  What good is it if a state 5 states over comes back with a red flag 9 days after the sale is complete?

Report Post Tip

i completely agree with you Squishy - He was obviously deranged to shoot into a crowd of 22 thousand people. He would have killed another way, a semi, a fire. He'd obviously been planning this. You don't take 10+ guns and thousands of rounds of ammo to a hotel if you aren't going to use it.

We could all debate all day long on the gun issue, the fat is, the guns he had were illegally modified.  Taking away my gun rights won't keep me any safer.. does cracking down on drugs take away the addicts?

Rest in peace to all the souls that were lost yesterday.

If I walk into a store to buy a gun, the database is real time. Its a federal back ground check conducted through the FBI (I believe). Takes like 5-10 minutes.

If I buy online and send the gun to a FFL holder, its their job to run the back ground check at their store. Its on the FFL holder to run your background check. And if they don't, they can be held liable in what you do with the weapon. Same goes for gun shows. There is no gun show loop hole.

Some states have a waiting period even for a few days even, or longer.

I really hate to turn this into a political thing right after this terrible event, but mail me if you wanna talk Squishy. I like the debate stuff. Love hearing other's peoples point of views on these topics.

Report Post Tip

MissNiki, the gun wasn't illegally modified. You can buy a bump stock like I mentioned earlier over the counter.

Report Post Tip

America needs better mental health care.

A thousand times this. We treat mental health like it's the person's own fault, like it's not an illness and like people should be able to "toughen up" and handle it. We don't have easy access to mental health treatment, we shame people (especially men!) who seek treatment and insurance companies are loath to pay for therapy.

There are no laws you can make against guns that will stop sick people from acting. We're focused on the wrong things. Mental health concerns can be caught early and properly treated if we were as open as talking about them as we are things like high blood pressure or heat disease or diabetes.

My heart goes out to to all those affected by this tragedy.

If I walk into a store to buy a gun, the database is real time. Its a federal back ground check conducted through the FBI (I believe). Takes like 5-10 minutes.

Thats the problem, the databases used are not updated with current information on the state level. NICs/III/NCIC are not 'complete'.

For example, a study done in 2015 showed that the NIC/III/NCIC showed 2.1 million active warrants, yet on the state level, it showed 7.8 million.  There is a huge discrepancy between whats information is available, and whats actually being searched.

If everyone maintains their own separate databases, things get 'messy' and things slip through the cracks.

Federal law does not require states to submit mental health records to NICs.  I could be recognized by 13 states as mentally incompetent, and have active warrants in 27 states, and still get approved by NIC/III/NCIC because I'm not in their systems. :/

I am 100% for keeping firearms out of the hands of those who have demonstrated through past events are incapable of being responsible with them.  I am 100% for keeping firearms out of the hands of those who are mentally incapable of being responsible with them.  This all starts with a single reliable system used to determine if someone is capable of being a responsible gun owner.

While that being said.  I am also 100% for allowing every sane, rational, contributing citizen of our country without a relevant criminal past to own a firearm.

There comes a point where a single person does not need a dozen or more assault rifles, sixteen handguns, etc... Really, is that deer going to jump out and assault you? Will that target bound across the range and smack you in the face? Is your home going to be invaded and leave you able to access your small arsenal to defend yourself and your family? NO! Bambi isn't going to eat your face. The zombie apocalypse isn't going to happen tomorrow or next week.

Gun control isn't a bad thing. It really isn't. Guns are not an extension of your penis or breasts. They don't make you bigger and badder. You aren't exactly defending yourself against ISIS invaders daily in your homes. It's time limits are put in place and regulations to protect people from "mental" people that are now allowed to own guns. Gun control doesn't mean no guns, it means smart choices are made in who can get those guns. Education is required before getting a gun. Limits to how many and what your average Joe or Jill can own are in place. You don't need semi-automatic weapons to shoot at targets and hunt a grouse.

Other developed countries have proven this true, one day maybe yours will too. Look at Australia's gun buyback. Look to your neighbours in the north where a drive-by is huge news and not very common. Look at Japan, the UK... Any number of countries where gun control is a thing.

This shit is scary when you think of it.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2017/oct/02/america-mass-shootings-gun-violence  <---- each one of those faceless icons is a mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, friend, aunt, uncle... You get the point.

This isn't okay. This isn't normal. The incident in Las Vegas saw more than just Americans killed. They were just there to share their love for music and life. They didn't deserve to die or be injured. Open your eyes. This isn't about an outdated second amendment written when loading four shots in a minute was badass. This is about the lives of your citizens and people visiting your country.

Squishy, so I know about the state disconnect. You're going to have that when not every state has the same gun laws, I think. I assume the reason why they are having a hard time placing mental disorders on the same background check is because its no one's business of your mental status. I say that, and at the same time agree with you.

I think the argument can be made that someone's mental status shouldn't be tracked by the FBI. And someone shouldn't be able to run a background check on you and see your mental illness. Along with that, where does it stop? Should your background check also show what medication you're on? Maybe a little bit more of a due process or something. I don't know. I'm just spewing ideas and so on. Off track a little bit even.

MeadMaiden, do you know what a semi-automatic weapon is? Any kind of modern pistol is semi-automatic. Most rifles that are magazine fed are semi-automatic. I'm sorry but you make it sound like its a big deal. Just making sure you know what they are. And you're talking about other countries that have no guns at all. I misspoke and said we have gun control. I should have said regulation. Control and regulation are two different things. Other countries have gun control; they control all the guns. Gun regulation is where we regulate who can get them and who cannot.

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. One thing the guardian leaves out is one of the biggest liberal cities in the US has double digits murders every weekend. What city is that? Chicago. They have strict gun control laws where you can't have them in the city. However they have the highest homicide rate in the country. I guess those murderers didn't get the memo that its a gun free city. And like I said, if someone wants to do harm they'll find a way. Even if it is finding a gun in a gun free city.

Ultimately, I am for a different system. Different regulation, not necessarily more regulation. I just do not think complete gun control is the answer.
