| Letting homes cities view BDs wherever. | Started by: Squishy on Nov 29, '17 20:17 |
| What do you guys think about allowing anyone from the same home city to view the ir cities business district regardless of their location. We lose a little realism but gain some functionality. Any thoughts? | |

I actually like the idea of having to fly around because of the realism... However, the functionality of being able to view it would be helpful sometimes... Is there a way to do it where you can see it but not post unless you are home? And I assume it's only the HOME district you could see from anywhere... |

View or post also?
I want to say I'm against being able to post from across the country but as I try to rationalize it, I find myself swinging to the other side mainly because you are limiting it to only home city.
I think people sit in their home cities way too much and it makes sense with forts, boosts, OC's, paternal pardon, and Business Districts. I could stand behind this suggestion if only to have one less reason that people never leave their home city. |

Very much for this. Would love to see anything that encourages the roleplaying aspect, even if it's just the ability to 'see' what's happening at home and at least prepare your responses. No more 'hey can you copy that response and mail it to me so I can write up my next post in a back alley?'. As for realism, who's to say a 'phone call' didn't keep you up to date on what has happened back home? |

Honestly, with the realistic travel timers, it would help a lot to be able to view/post in different city businesses. Even though it may not be as realistic as it is now, it will definitely be a plus for the players. |

We pretty much have a fluid timeline here at MR (what I mean is no one every says "today is blah day") and when was the last time you skipped a hustle or didn't fly to avoid death just because you were in a scene in your home business district? Beyond those instances, people are often in three threads at once and THAT'S not realistic either... but, we fudge things to keep the site active and to encourage RP. So, I'm all for letting people see their home city business district and post there while out in the world if it helps keep things active! :) |

While the old fart part of me wants to keep things the same Because That's The Way We've Always Done It, that isn't really a good enough reason to do anything. At the end of the day, I support anything that makes it easier for people for RP- and I do think this would make that easier. |

I prefer the realism of having to actually be in that city. |

Or, leave BDs the way they are, and open up a OOC city based forum? |

So like... an HQ Crew Forum but on a city level? Would it reward experience for use? |

I've wanted a city "HQ" type forum for years. A common forum just members of the city could use. Would make holding city specific role plays, city specific OOC conversations, and city specific events a lot easier and more likely to be participated in by those that aren't into the daunting Streets or BD as it would have a smaller and less intimidating audience. I think it would also encourage Godfathers to interact with members of their districts and the entire city on a more regular basis. If you make it like the crew HQ and accessible no matter where you are I think it would work just swimmingly. Something like this may draw role players out from their super sekrit Back Alley threads as well. I think this would be a great alternative to opening the BD's to being accessed from everywhere. I can't go into the Tim Horton's in Edmonton by going into one in Vancouver after all. We have 'realistic' travel times for similar reasons. We couldn't have been able to get from LA to New York in two hours in that era. I feel that making BD's an open world forum would take away from the individuality of the cities and take away the option of the Godfathers making it a business venture and charging rent to business owners. Go "City HQ" go!!! |

No, I don't think we should reward for posting behind closed doors for OOC conent. If people want to be interactive with their city, they should be interactive with their city. Seeing the shit-spam thats coming from the hustle in the outside, I really don't want to offer gains for doing the same but now 5 cities cant see what you write :P |

I agree and would support this. I also want to +1 how MeadMaiden described:
Because that is exactly how I felt about the streets when I started, people died for talking there. It took me a long while before I learned where this mafia draws the line on things.
I would counter suggest a place in character to practice with a smaller, less intimidating audience but still more than just that dead HQ thread "bar" so many crews have. |

I like the idea of being able to VIEW your home cities BDs at least. For realism purposes I agree with having to be in that city to post. Sometimes someone may ask me to look at their BD and give feedback but I am away for several hours. I would love to at least be able to read it and can even prepare a reply (on cpu, back alley or whatever) so when I am able to fly to said city I am ready to post. |

Why push it to be OOC though? Shouldn't we be encouraging role play? The last thing we need is more OOC content. |

What spawned this was a contest thats being run, which is awesome, but its for one city only. There really isnt a venue for things of this nature, so I thought maybe the users would want one considering how districts inside a city work together.
I don't know, just trying to find a solution to fill a void :) |

im kinda torn on this issue. one one hand, posting in the respective business district for that city, gives you somewhat a vision boost for that city. So why reward someone with vision points for posting in a business district that they are not even in? on the other hand, I could agree that being able to read it would be beneficial as you can be working on a reply to that thread while waiting for your flight timer to open so you can fly back and reply to it. however in both scenario's you are encouraging people to stay in one spot and not move, which in my opinion breeds laziness. so in this particular catch 22 we need to decide as a user base, what the lesser of the two evils is. |

This idea would lose realism and is surely a catch 22 which could prove to be interesting. Speaking of realism, I recently attended 5 funerals that could of been avoided by realism. |
