You were not "Directly attacked" the word attack implies malicious intent. FakeManCP and Gaylord amongst others pointed out that the opinion of Cruel's son does not matter. This was not malicious or attacking.

The relevance of rank is very much dependent on what a person has to back it up.

If for examples sake JoeBloggs comes to the street as a thug knowing full well he has the backing of Godfather Roman or Godfather TheDean then he could pretty much ignore most ranks around here and speak however he wants. You may get fucked off with him however he has the backing for his words so if you disagreed and wanted to take him out chances are if your caught there will be a whole load of pain coming your way and that of your city.

It is the way our thing has always been and the way life will always be.

Keep in mind that a rank is a title, i.e. 'Godfather', 'Don'.

These are terms of respect that are indicative of one's position within the hierarchical structure of Cosa Nostra. Flouting of this when you're backed by a powerful individual doesn't alter the relevance of the rank that a person holds within Cosa Nostra, just demonstrates a limited understanding of it. A Made Man is always a Made Man, whether from New York or Las Vegas, whether powerful or weak.

The majority just have to hope that the minority with the power understand the traditions of the Mafia and protect the value of rank.

You make a good point crugeonfletcher. everyone is entitled to their opinion and one could be shot for it. It works both was though reguardless of rank. A guy straight off the boat with a hand gun can in theory take out a made man or godfather. most choose not to go that ridiculous route. but, still others do. I think the issue has been drug through the mud and is like beating a dead horse with a stick. i tend to stray from the streets these days because of the this. you have people that ask for respect dont get it, and then one day they decide to pull the trigger. everyone calls them a rouge for it, yet no one can seem to put two and two togiether about why it happens so frequently in our world. the golden rule applies to everyone. if you want to extend your life span treat others respectfully reguardless of their rank. who knows that lowly thug you insulted one day might just end your life.
