Writing Prompt #1 - Ends May 31st, 23:59 Started by: Squishy on May 26, '18 17:48

You flick the key but you don't leave. This wasn't the man that was chasing you. This man was nearly a foot taller than the clerk that chased you for a few blocks. A few moments pass as you stare at him and as he presumably stares at you. The tension is broken as he pulls something out of his oversized coat and points it at you. With panic beginning to set in, you reach for your pistol holstered underneath your seat. As you fumble around for a second you finally grab the grip of the gun and unholster it.

By the time you pop your head back up the man is gone. As your anxiety begins to grow you hear a faint knock on the driver's side window. You whip your head towards the window to find the tall man's face inches from the window. Your heart jumps and you place the muzzle of the gun to the window. The now startled man drops what was in his hand and raises his hands while mouthing don't shoot. As you eye him up and down you notice the item he dropped wasn't a gun but a tin can with spilled changed littered around it. You crack open the window.

"What the fuck do you want?" you say in an aggressive but shaky voice.

"Uh... Can you spare some change?" says the now apparent homeless man.

"This is how you ask for a handout? By chasing someone down and scaring them half to death?" you ask.

"It's cold and I saw you stick up that gas station. Figured you had some spending cash." says the man.

You give the man the finger before rolling up your window and driving off. You make it halfway out of the alley before you see a large dumpster blocking the path out. You sit there puzzled for a bit before looking at your rearview mirror to see your "friend" is no longer alone. More and more homeless come out of the woodwork; in total there are 13 of them armed with various weapons commonly found on the streets such as pipes and broken bottles. Thirteen of them but only six bullets in your gun. You prepare yourself as they begin to inch closer before you can fire off a shot another of their comrades jumps down from the dumpster impaling your windshield with a stop sign pole. This act startles you and you pull the trigger hitting the DIY pikeman in the shoulder. This first act of battle makes the others begin to charge towards you while letting out their passionate war cry.

You step on the gas to try and break through the barricade but the dumpster doesn't move more than a few inches. Realizing this isn't the way out you kick the car into reverse and aim right at the center of their battalion. This makes them break their charge into two groups. Once they are on either side of the car you whip the car to the left hitting three of them. The impact slows you down allowing the tall man to break your window with his lead pipe. You fire two shots at your door, the man falls as you assume at least one of the bullets hit him. This only further enrages his fellow homeless as they target your windows and tires. One of them jumps on the hood of your car and begins bashing your windshield with a chunk of concrete.

Knowing you can't win this fight but only survive you floor it and drive towards the fence bordering the port. At the last second you roll out and the car easily knocks down the fence and goes straight into the water with the concrete-wielding combatant still on the hood. The remaining seven impoverished warriors reform their battle line and begin their second charge; with only three shots left, you understand this is a losing battle and retreat by jumping into the water and swimming to safety. They disengage their pursuit but this isn't the last you will see of them as they scream they will have their day of glory.

Fumbling in the dark you find what you're looking for – a hidden panel beneath your grandfather's desk. It slides back revealing a turn style knob...slowly rotating it until your hear a click. A portion of the desk lifts up and you push on it, sliding it forward to find a leather diary hidden away. The old man used to run an outfit back in the day until things fell apart and he met his death not long after some goons occupied his old building. However, you knew where he kept his diary of important information, something that was passed down from generations within in the family.

You hear noises from outside the door and see shadows cast along the wall. The door handle begins to turn slowly and within the blink of an eye you slip out the window and down the fire-escape. A couple minutes later you are sitting down in the back alley reading and flipping over the Diary – soaking in all the information. You learn about the last days of your grandfather and what all was transpiring. You learn about the business and ties and you read through the years piecing different things together and connecting the dots to the information you have from doing your own research about your grandfather.

Useful information can be found way prior even some business deals you could use now. Breaking out a little pocket book you start jotting down names and addresses and details – anything you think could be useful.

Pencil writing with a furry and zoned out, your concentration is broke when you hear a bottle scuttle across the pavement around the corner. Your cram everything in your satchel and place your hand on your gun slowly getting up.  You peer down the alley waiting for someone to show themselves… nothing…

You round the corner and start briskly walking. You have a strange feeling your being followed so you round the block, and cut through a shop to an alley. You continue on and cross a street keeping a brisk pace, but the feeling is getting stronger. Your body is flooded with adrenaline.  You take a glance back and you catch just a shadow.  Cut across the street again, you glance back quickly.  You notice a man and do a double take.  He was gone.  Were you imagining it! NO! Not crazy it has to be someone. Danger fills your mind.  Did someone follow you? No! Your certain no one could have… so who is this?  What do they want? Doubling back you're definitely not losing this guy and you can't risk pulling a gun.  What if its a cop…

You head back to your intended route.  You're more certain than ever that your tail is getting closer.

After jumping the fence, you are relieved to see the getaway vehicle is only a short sprint away.  As you reach the car, you crane your head around to see if anyone is in pursuit. So far so good. Slamming the door closed, you stab the key into the ignition and give one last glance in the rear view to check your six.  You now see a man come to a stop after clearing the fence. You flick the key the engine stalls!

“PIECE OF SHIT!!!!”

You flick the key several more times only to hear the engine flood and die.

Reaching for your gun you hear a knock on the window.

*Clank...Clank...Clank*

Pulling the hammer back on your gun you slowly turn your head.

“JESUS CHRIST!”

You recognize Johnny Knuckles “Anonymous” standing there

“Are you still shadowing me!?” you let out a breath of relaxation and tuck your gun back.

“Never stopped kid, You showing promise… *He slides you an envelope* Take out the trash and Ill overlook the fact that you were stealing from another families HQ, I’m sure the boss wouldn't like you going around causing problems yah know kid.”

Man how long has he been following me? thinking to your self, you thing to yourself calming down.

“Thanks Jonny.  It was something personal I had to get back, I'll take care of this right away” Johnny disappears like he always does. Leaving you to work.

It was your first job. You were seating, shaking, nervous yet eager all at the same time. It was supposed to be simple... Deliver "something" for the family. It seemed like a simple enough job... go in drop it off, collect the money and get back. But oh how so much can go so wrong so quickly. Had you known you would've been more prepared.

You had gone even left a little early to there on time. Drove fast, (but not reckless enough to get pulled over as that would cause some "delay") took the quickest route and even showed up a little early. You always figured, if you are 15 minutes early you are on time, if you are on time you are late!

You walk up to the door with the package, you can hear some dogs barking in the lot next door. Dogs always made you nervous. It was a bit of an unsettling environment for your first job, as nervous as you already were. Once you got to the door, it opened immediately before even getting a chance to ring the bell. A woman greets you with a smile and hands you payment for the package. You can hear members of the family inside. After ensuring the amount was correct you hand her the delivery. She says something but you can't make it out as the dogs barking muffled what she had to say.

Right as you went to ask what she had said, she holds up one finger as a gesture to wait right there. She closes the door, but not all the way, just enough to block your view. As you await for the woman to return you hear a crash. As you look over to the lot next to you you see a metal fence laying on the ground separating the lot next to the house and 4 mean looking pit bulls running towards you. In a fright you make a break for your car on the other side of the gated entry way.

Thinking no job is worth dying over, you remember you were supposed to be waiting by the door for the woman to return. You look back to see the door starting to reopen. You figured your job was completed, no need to return. As fear for your life from the man eating guard dogs of the next lot could, at the very least, quickly turn into simple embarrassment from running from said dogs.

After jumping the fence, you are relieved to see the get-away vehicle is only a short sprint away.  As you reach the car, you crane your head around to see if anyone is in pursuit.  So far so good. Slamming the door closed, you stab the key into the ignition and give one last courtesy glance in the rear view to check your six.  You now see a man come to a stop after clearing the fence.  You flick the key to try and turn on the car.

The man reaches your car. He quickly explains he is the husband of the woman from inside and that the woman forgot to leave you "a little something for you efforts". he hands you some extra cash. With out even counting it you place the money in your pocket, nervously and still out of breath from running, you say thank you, and make your way back to the pizzeria to make another delivery.

Slamming the door closed, you stab the key into the ignition and give one last courtesy glance in the rear view to check your six.  You now see a man come to a stop after clearing the fence.  You flick the key to make the keys clang together because D7 has always thought it was good luck for him. Turning the key in the ignition the car roars to life. Well not so much a roar as a putter to life. Thank god he added a bit of gas in this morning. Laughing to himself as he drives away he noticed the man now throwing garbage at him, D7 reaches his hand out the window and holds up his middle finger to the man. Suddenly the man reaches inside his jacket and pulls out something shiny. D7 hears a loud "POP POP" and his rear wind shield shatters.

"Oh fuck!" D7 yells as he lowers his head and hits the gas.

"It was only five dollars. I don't see how the fuck he is so mad. She wasn't even that good." he grumbles to himself.

After making it a good distance away D7 starts laughing. Something really must be wrong in his head that he finds things like what just happened so damn funny. The joy and amusement he receives from doing shit like that is just wrong. He had plenty of money, but fuck he has had a boring ass day. Getting closer and closer to HQ something terrifying finally came to mind.

"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! Criseria is going to fucking kill me if I bring her car back like this after borrowing it." D7 screams at no one but himself. He starts slamming his hands on the steering wheel. Knowing the perfect shop where he knows someone he speeds over to it and they get to work on fixing the window for him.

"By the way can I borrow a car for a bit. I will be right back I just have to run an errand real quick." he asks the shops boss. After getting handed keys D7 starts heading back to repay someone for the problem he just had to solve. While it was his fault he was still fucking pissed. Slowly he pulled up and parked a few houses down from where he just spent and hour. Even though he was the one to rip off the man, call it dine and dash if you will D7 still needed to make himself feel better.

Slowly he creeps in the front door and into the kitchen where he could hear the man yelling still. D7 knew exactly what will make him feel better pulling a Beretta from the holster inside his jacket he turns the corner and with horror on their faces D7 pulls the trigger.

"Just like I said to the boss when I first started this life. The best way to handle things. Shoot everyone twice." smiling D7 holsters his weapon and makes sure to take whatever cash he could find.

You woke with a start and the yelling of the voice of a slightly familiar woman,  "WAKE UP, HE'S HOME! YOU HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE"

You open your eyes, and your vision is just as foggy as your head.   "Ugh, where am I?  How much did I drink?"  You thoughts unknowingly audible.  You're brought to your senses by an echoing SMACK across your face.

"YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE, MY HUSBAND JUST PULLED UP IN HIS CAR!  He'll be in here soon, you have to leave now!"  The woman pleads with you.

"Husba-what?" You ask as your eyes finally focus on your feet while you sit on the edge of the bed.  As your begin to look up, you notice the woman's legs and follow them up remembering everything of the night before.  "You never said you were married!!!"  You nearly bark at her.

"Well," She said with a grin and slight twisting of her finger. "Big Johnny wasn't due home for another two days."

"YOU are Johnny DeLuca's wife?!"  You stammer, realizing why the woman seemed so familiar.  All thoughts of just putting up a fight vanish from your head when you realize it's the God Father's hit man whose wife you had just slept with. You rush around hurrying to put on your trousers, shirt and coat.  In your haste to get out, you didn't hear the lapel's fall off your coat.

In the next room you can hear Johnny talking with the woman, he's laughing at how late she had slept in. You creep over to the window and manage to quietly open it.  "Saftey at last!" You think to yourself as you accidentally bump the nightstand and knock the vase over onto the floor.

"I GOT A CAT"  you hear the woman scream, as the door swings open you finally make your way out the window glancing back just long enough to see Johnny's face go bright red in anger.

"THAT IS NO CAT!" You hear him scream, right after you jump the fence.

You look both left and right, and are relieved to see the get-away vehicle is only a short sprint away.  You dash across the street and in a swift punch knock out the poor sap standing near his car, grabbing the keys as he collapses to the ground. As you reach the car, you crane your head around to see if anyone is in pursuit.  So far so good. Slamming the door closed, you stab the key into the ignition and give one last courtesy glance in the rear view to check your six.  You now see Johnny has come to a stop after clearing the fence. You flick the key in the ignition and breathe a sigh of relief when you hear the engine start.  You press the gas pedal down hard, and as you drive off you decide to yourself to never pick up random women at the bar again, and should you ever feel the need for a one night stand you're going to visit a local brothel.

Donatello knew this was a terrible idea when oRagnar had called but he owed him a few favours and had reluctantly agreed after promises of 'riches beyond his wildest dreams'. He was supposed to go rob a local loan-shark's house in Vegas. oRagnar had assured him it would be an easy job, in and out and he would be rich... even said he wished he could do it himself but he had business to attend to back in Detroit. Apparently this guy had a big deal going down later that day and all of the money would be at his house that morning. It was all going terribly wrong though.

Donatello arrived at 9am just like he had been told. He walked around the back of the house and checked a few windows, the coast seemed pretty clear so he headed over to the back door, he quietly turned the handle and pushed the door open. As he leaned over to take a look and head inside though several bullets buzzed past his ear missing his head by mere inches. Scared shit-less by the near death experience Donatello hadn't even bothered to look up and see how many people were in there shooting at him. He slammed the door shut and turned to run all in one motion.

After jumping the fence smoothly like a ninja, Donatello was relieved to see the get-away vehicle oRagnar had mentioned on the phone was only a short sprint away. As he reached the car safe and sound however he encountered a small problem. He couldn't fit in through the driver's door, his damn shell was too big. As he tried to figure out how he was going to get himself out of this mess he looked around behind him to see if anyone was coming yet. So far nothing.

Donatello was starting to get desperate to get in the car, he knew he didn't have much time and he would have no chance on foot. He ripped the driver's door off in frustration and finally managed to squeeze in through the door just barely. Pressed tight between the seat and the steering wheel he felt for the key in the ignition, thankfully it was there. Checking the rear view mirror one last time he noticed a man land just beyond the fence behind him and stop to look around and catch his breath. Flicking the key to start the car Donatello accidentally put it in reverse; the car was so damn small he couldn't see what the hell he was doing. As he went to speed away he actually backed right over the man behind him. The man, who was now laying in front of the car, was mangled and screaming in pain, there was no time to feel bad about it though.

"Ah sorry!?" Donatello screamed to the man as he put the car in drive and drove over him again. In a panic Donatello had just continued to drive the door-less car as fast as it would go for hours. He was pretty sure he had just killed the guy AND managed not to get the money. That was going to be hard to explain but he wasn't about to go back for it now. There was no chance that nobody had heard the screaming and gun shots the place would be swarmed with police in no time.

It wasn't like he had never killed anyone before, but driving over the guy twice seemed a little harsh and he felt bad.. especially when he considered it was him who was trying to break in and rob the guy. It wasn't like he actually did anything to deserve it. Remembering that the guy had tried to kill him when he opened the door made Donatello feel a little better though and he eventually calmed down and headed for some pizza.

After jumping the fence, Nebula was relieved to see the get-away vehicle is only a short sprint away. As he reached the car, he happened to  notice shards of glass on the ground by the drivers side. He craned his head around to see if anyone is in pursuit. Nobody, so far so good. Slamming the door closed, he stabbed the key into the ignition and gave one last courtesy glance in the rear view to check his six. Seemingly out of nowhere, he now saw the man come to a stop after clearing the fence. As he turned the key in the ignition, nothing, not a murmur.

Realizing the man was now getting closer, he turned the key once again but still nothing. It was obvious to him by now that there was no escape. As the man stood staring at him, he nonchalantly stepped out onto the sidewalk. You could hear the shards of glass breaking under his feet as he closed the door behind him and made his was onto the grass that made up the front yard of one of the local residents. After calmly removing his jacket, he neatly folded it up and placed it on the hood of the car. He then unbuttoned the wrists of his shirt, before rolling up his sleeves and stared right back at the man who had been in pursuit of him.

"Let's settle this the old fashioned way then, eh?" he said as he stepped towards the man.

"Lets." The man replied.

The two men stood there for a few seconds with neither one of them flinching. Suddenly, as Nebula went to throw a right jab, in the blink of an eye the man dealt him a low blow right in his stomach. Winding him, Nebula fell to his knees clutching at his stomach. Next, the man threw a right hook of his own to the face of Nebula, knocking him on his side. This was then shortly followed by a kick to the ribs.

"Just finish it." Nebula said in a defeated voice.

The man reached for his inside jacket pocket, pulling out his gun. He aimed and pointed it to Nebula's forehead. After a brief pause, the man spoke.

"You're not worth it." He said as he turned his back and began to walk away.

"I said end it goddammit!" Nebula shouted.

As he gasped for his breath, he managed to sit somewhat upright. The palms of his hands had started to feel all clammy as he broke out into a sweat. His eyes opened to find that he was surrounded by the pitch black. His breathing started to get quicker and quicker when suddenly out of nowhere he felt a soft hand placed against his forehead.

"Lay down, honey. It's just another bad episode."

Slamming the door closed, you stab the key into the ignition and give one last courtesy glance in the rear view to check your six.  You now see a man come to a stop after clearing the fence.  You flick the key and slam it into the ignition, it fits - so far so good. Several twists of the key to start the car brings the slow whirring as the engine attempts to kick into life, nothing, fuck.

Without pausing for thought Wispa removed his gun from his holster and dropped several inches in the car slowly opening the car door and sliding out. Wispa contorted his body through the tiny opening he had created, crouched and sprung up about to end the life of the man who had been pursuing him.

"DAD," the man shouted. Wispa hesitated, his gun locked on the man's chest. Upon second look the boy looked barely 15, 18 at a push but certainly no man. He was slender, curly brown hair twisted in a loose knot behind his head and what looked like a tiger tattoo creeping out of his sleeve on his left arm.

"What did you say?" Wispa barely flinched as he asked the question, his aim unwavering from the boys chest.

"Dad, it's me, Ronny."

"You're dead." Wispa spat back. "I held you in my arms, I watched you die. I never forgave myself for that."

"Dad I swear, I'm not ly__." A single gun shot rang clear, Wispa shot three inches to the left of the boys cheek.

"LIAR." Wispa screamed back. He heard the remaining few birds quickly fly off as his yell reverberated through the street.

Wispa thought back to the day that he lost Ronny, it was nearly eleven years to the day. He'd been a street runner at the time, pushing dope for the Los Santos gang down in New Mexico. He had made a quick stop at home to deposit the days money when he was bull rushed by three men in masks. He never stood a chance and it was inevitable in this line of business but what he hadn't foreseen that day was that Ronny and his wife Emily were at home too. Ronny was his son, his pride and joy. He worked damn hard to ensure that Ronny didn't have to follow the same path he did. He pooled all the money he made into Ronny's education and sporting activities. Ronny had jumped on one of the masked men's back and attempted to drag him off Wispa. In the struggle that followed Ronny was slashed across the abdomen and the masked men had run off but not before ransacking the place for all the jewellery and money they could get their hands on. His wife Emily was shot dead.

Since that day, Wispa had been on a path of anger fuelled vengeance. He realised very quickly that of the three masked men, one was his once good friend Samuel - he was the last of the group to die, along with his entire family. Wispa remembered the smell of burning flesh as the house went up in flames. Following that, Wispa began his ascension up the Los Santos gang before being sent to Seattle to begin the task of turning the Ballard turf into a Los Santos holding.

Ronny slowly lifted his top, Wispa cocked his gun, and revealed a 12 inch scar just under his bottom two ribs. Wispa fell to his knees and started sobbing.

"What... how. I saw you... go." Wispa couldn't fathom what his eyes were seeing. He couldn't comprehend how this boy could be his son. As he walked over to Ronny he noticed his nose, it was definitely a nose that ran in the family. Sobbing he embraced Ronny. "Tell me - everything.. son."

"Not now Dad, we have to go. There'll be here any minute, I recognised you instantly from the pictures I had in my belongings. I knew the moment you started smashing the windows that it was you. I told the jeweller I'd give chase and he could round up troops and follow in the van."

Just at that moment a loud screech was heard as a van came barrelling round the corner. There were at least 4 men crammed into the front of it, God knows how many more were in the back.

"This way." Wispa spotted a motorbike stored under the tarpaulin at one of the houses just to their left. He ripped the covers off and by an absolute miracle the keys were just left under the mud guard. "Get on son." The words were still surreal to him even as he said it.. son... Sure enough Ronny jumped on the back and they started streaking down the road - the van in hot pursuit.

Left, right, they weaved through the traffic dodging gun shots from the van. A hard left saw them head down the side walk of a bridge.. what quickly followed was a loud screech.. a pause and an large bang. Wispa peaked back, unrelenting.. the van had just hit the river water underneath - the chase was over. Wispa carried on at full speed as they travelled in silence for almost two hours, he had so much to say and ask and do but first he needed to guarantee their safety.

They finally pulled into a diner off the highway, it was dark. They both entered the diner, Wispa's stomach suddenly growling realising with all the adrenaline he hadn't eaten since breakfast.

"Tell me everything Ronny.. please." Ronny smiled at his Dad, "I will, but first tell me what you just risked your life to steal." Wispa turned to Ronny and took the wedding ring out of his pocket.

"It was for this, it belonged to your mother."
