Boxing Events - The System & Rules Started by: JackMezzo on Sep 09, '18 15:40

To support the roll out of Purgatory Gym and the Boxing/Fight concept system we've been working on, I'd now like to present the rules of the system in full so that future fighters have a location to be referred to for the mechanics of the feature, and to present the opportunity to build an FAQ type document.

The system looks complicated, however we've run tests with 8 players so far and all have expressed their interest in repeating their involvement and had no issue understanding the system.

So, the details of the round based system works as follows.

Basic Information - Necessary to Fight

Two Fighters will meet in the ring across Five Rounds

-

The match will be Opened By The Commentator who will introduce the fight. Both fighters then have the opportunity to post themselves entering the ring in the thread

-

Each fighter has 140 Stamina Points to spend across All Five Rounds

Copy this sheet for a handy tool to track point expenditure

-

Each round the fighters will submit a number to use as their Attack and a number to use as their Defense

-

The Commentator will then issue both fighters a Tops Dice Bet. The Last Two Digits that the fighters roll is added to their scores

Example: Fighter 1 rolls 123. 2 is added to their Attack and 3 is added to their Defense

-

The Commentator will then match the total Attack and Defense scores against each other to determine who wins the round, or if it is a draw

-

The best of Three Rounds Out Of Five wins. If three rounds are won Before the final round, then there will be a win by knock out. If a fighter is reduced to Zero stamina Before the fifth round, it will be loss by knock out

-

After each round of numbers, the Commentator will narrate the outcome of the fight in the Purgatory Gym thread. The Fighters Can Then Make A Post each detailing what they do form their corner of the ring, before submitting their second round of numbers for the second round

-

This will be repeated until the Fifth Round, or when Three Rounds Have Been Won, when both fighters will be notified of the winner outside of the thread. The winner will then be invited to narrate their victory over their opponent, instead of the Commentator

-

These are the basic rules of play, detailing the fundamental structure of the concepts mechanics. There is more Advanced information below which helps understand how to vary play styles and strategies.

Advanced Information

Draw

In the event of a draw, the Damage Dealt will be calculated across all five rounds to determine the winner. Damage Dealt is calculated by deducting the defense stat of Fighter 1 from the attacking stat of Fighter 2, where Fighter 2 is the winner of the round.

Example: Fighter 1 submits an attack of 10, Fighter 2 submits a defense of 5. Fighter 1 has dealt 5 damage to Fighter 2.

This method encourages fair point distribution and discourages a fighter from submitting obscenely low scores (1/1) for two rounds in the hopes of winning the last three rounds by submitting very high scores. If the result is a draw, they will suffer from the damage dealt for using a defense of 1.

Narration

The narration of each round by the Commentator is to give indications on the point expenditure by each fighters. The fighters can then use this to try and adjust their approach or predict how the fighter plays. The language used will reflect the points submitted and the severity of the win/loss.

Example: An attack of 40 vs a defense of 5 will be detailed as a severe beating.

Example: An extremely low attack/defense will be detailed as putting up no defense or making no effort to attack.

Example: a Drawn match will be detailed as boring and slow if both defended, or detailed as an exciting round if both fighters hit.

The narration will give clues as to the number of stamina points left, and will also often split the round in two by detailing the results of the initial submissions, before adding the dice numbers, if they make a significant difference.

Test Fights

All test fights can be viewed on the Race Street Pier at this location, or the most recent two fights were made public in the streets as we approached the final format for this system.

These are here and here. Please feel free to use these to understand better how the fight will play out.

This image also offers some insight into the calculation process involved and how we input the submitted numbers.

Any questions, please ask.
