With all the writers on the streets these days, there's a lot of great stories out there to read.  And if you don't have a lot of time to spend on it, you might appreciate a little nudge in the right direction of a story you could enjoy.

So, feel free to reply here and suggest something you've enjoyed on the streets.  Whether it's RP, Debates, Newspapers, or other craziness that sometimes shows up... share a link and tell us why we might like it.

A FEW TO GET YOU STARTED

Hell is Holmes: Waking the Demons -  https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/1260067#18376796
Has London gone off on another drug bender or is he in very real danger?  Can our favorite consulting criminal stay sane and sober in the face of impossible odds?  LondonHolmes is easily one of my favorite writers on the site.  I haven't had a lot of chances to work with him yet, but his posts are always satisfying.  They truthfully read like something you might pick up in a bookstore or on your Kindle and you can almost see the scenes playing out like a movie in your head.  If you're a fan of the original consulting criminal, Sherlock, take a moment to go read London's stuff.  Hell, go back to the beginning and read all of it.  You're sure to enjoy.

Connie - This one will take you a little more work cause Connie 's story plays out everywhere all over the BD and in the streets but I've been following this Fish Out of Water for a bit now and I am really getting a kick out of the way she thinks.  Hers seems to be a story about someone with no business in the mob world who literally has stumbled into it.  I'm eager to see where she's going with the story.  Her first street link is here:  https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/1257783#19665743  but really her story is all over the business districts as the character wanders in and out of scenes and across problems.  It's worth your time to go down her rabbit hole.

An Unlikely Alliance - https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/1257950#196234225
Sal_Luciano and Giovanni_Ferrari the son of Joe Ligambi begin to discuss burying the hatchet just as someone opens fire on them both.  Who was the target?  Who is responsible?  Can they, with the help of Sal's daughter and Giovanni's 'Aunt' avoid breaking down into open warfare and find the people responsible?

Some great reading linked above. Enjoyed all 3.

This is going to take a very juvenile turn but you did mention craziness in the opening post. Years & years ago the streets of mafia returns were blessed to be visited by  a man before his time. Tha Hustla.

For your consideration I present;

A day in the life of tha Hustla - https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/74087#7875915

Tha Hustla - A tribute - https://mafiareturns.com/comm/thread/374#72228140

UlricRebusDupeoMusic pouring his heart out following the untimely death of tha hustla.

Enjoy.

I just wonder if there is ANY reason other than earning VIP points that this 'RR thread' was even created.

I can go myself to the Streets Forum list and see what interests Me to read, not what interests someone else to read, or what someone thinks should interest Me.

This isn't a creative OOC discussion to be had, or something original to be discussed OOC, this is just summarizing others' work and gives off the impression only to gain VIP points/creds.....ANYone can do this, and earn experience, points, and credits and also boost their usage of Super VIP.

There are better places to advertise someone's recommended reading lists and "supporting" people.... Back Alley, mails, profiles, WA groups....... None of those earn VIP points/exp/creds, as well as word of mouth, and those usually work quite well....and IF someone *must* use the OOC Forum for this ...why not use the block quotes and show the support rather than receiving any VIP gains....

Now I am ALL for the promotion and support of others' writing/roleplaying.  For several crews in the past few years I've encouraged if not started a thread myself within the HQ to promote the works of family members, either using a HQ Forums thread and/or a BA thread, and word of mouth.

@ Myrah_Fitzgerald - That's a bit of a cynical view, isn't it? The idea of the OOC section is to discuss game things... out of character. Majority of the game are asking for everything to be kept off of WhatsApp and even away from the hidden corners of the BAs and yet you're out here complaining because this discussion has been brought to the public in the correct forum section? I've written my reply in quotations to suit you, but why should things be kept in quotation? If you weren't supposed to gain rewards for posting in this section, it wouldn't be coded as such.

What you see here is an out-of-character discussion being held in the out-of-character forum, why do you have such an issue?

Sorry for off-topic posting, OP.

Myrah_Fitzgerald,

A discussion about the motives of writers AND/OR the incentivization of posts on the boards and the impact that has had on the content of the forums would be a great topic for debate.  I encourage you to go start that.

I would ask that in the future you not do it in the middle of another person's thread unrelated to that topic.  I don't come into your threads and voice my opinions (positive or negative) on what you're contributing to the community.  I would really appreciate the same kindness in return.

While I don't need to defend my right to make a post, since there is no removing your 'virtual dump' from the middle of this thread, I'll address your accusation.

  1. YOUR LOGIC IS FLAWED:   I was posting actively to these forums and I have consistently been in the top 15 posters from the very first moment I've arrived at MR almost two years ago.  This was BEFORE we could win credits for being active.  Clearly, I would be active on the forums in the same way some people are ALWAYS active in the lounge... with or without the incentive.  Your argument would have A LOT more weight if you were accusing someone who wasn't a known writer on the site with hundreds of thousands of words and thousands of hours of writing time to her credit.
  2. I DON'T GET WHY SOME PEOPLE NEED TO BE HATEFUL:   Some people like hot dog eating contests or playing the accordion, I don't do either and I can't imagine I would find either to be very much fun... however, I have better things to do with my time than running around complaining about other people are doing that they enjoy.  So I continue to marvel at the people who bitch about me and others doing what we enjoy... telling stories and socially connecting through a resource designed for that.
  3. WHY I MADE THIS POST:    My reason for making this post is this -  I found a new writer that I LOVE on this site.  I wish I had found them sooner.  I realized there was no place on the forums for people to recommend stories or writers, so I made one.  Sometimes the simplest reason for a thing is the right one.

In closing - I want to stand by Squishy's decision to offer credits to posters to encourage activity on the forums for several reasons:

  1. The forums are superior to chat & mobmail because regardless of timezone we can be social with EVERYONE here.
  2. Some people might start writing and reading on the forums only for credits, but find a new passion due to giving something a try they otherwise might never have tried.
  3. My past CLs/Hands/hitters never complain when enjoying our HQ Forts, BGs, Credits for MIAs, Cash for Private Flights, VIP Mapping, or my enhanced vision whenever there is a war -- all of which is due to or bought with cash/credits I earned, in part, doing what I love on the site.  Writing.  THAT'S one of my major contributions to my family.

To avoid the appearance of trying to get something I shouldn't be by joining in on this, I would also like to echo Bella's point about what is the harm of doing this?  It seems fairly inoffensive and affords those who wish to be kept abreast of some recommended reading an area which, quite frankly, is not over-run or likely to disappear quickly i.e. the bottom post in page 1 of OOC is Jan 21st, the bottom post on page 1 of the Streets is Feb 04.

Many people have tried other means of summarising information; newspapers etc.  Bella could for example create a twice weekly Bella's Book Club publication in the streets and how would that go down?  Like a cup of cold sick, I would imagine.
