The story of Yves Saint Laurent Started by: YvesSaintLaurent on Feb 22, '19 14:58

Yves Saint Laurent was born in Paris, to Charles and Lucienne Saint-Laurent. At an early age, he with his family relocated to a stunning villa in the south of France, overlooking the Mediterranean coast. His father Charles was a lawyer who owned a chain of cinemas and his mother was a housewife.

Yves was often bullied as child, mostly for appearing to be homosexual, but he found solace in designing. When other children his age would often play soccer out on the streets, Yves would be indoors creating intricate paper dolls. It was clear to see from such a young age, this was a man who had heaps of creative genius within him, and if he could live up to his talent, then his name would live for the ages and he would become the fashion icon, he so lucidly dreamt of being.

One narration recalls as a young boy, he was overheard saying "My name will be written in fiery letters on the Champs Elysees"

As the years followed by, a teenage Yves became more intrigued by fashion, leading him to design dresses for his mother and sisters in his spare time. It was then his mother realised the potential of her young boy, and quickly rushed him to Paris. It was here in Paris, where all the young fashionistas were gravitating. The Parisian fashion industry was booming, and it needed a certain Yves Saint Laurent to add some elegance to it.

At the tender age of 17, a whole new world opened for Yves. He was now living alone in Paris, but it wasn't long before, the beautiful, young, cultured, intelligent, well-mannered, and well-clothed Saint Laurent — who, at some point, traded in his preppy look for a highly sophisticated wardrobe — easily made a name for himself among the frivolous, wealthy, trendy elite of the time in Paris.

Saint Laurent, would later go on to enrol at one of Paris's top fashion colleges, where his drawings quickly caught the eye of an already established fashion giant, Christian Dior. It was under the tutelage of Dior, that Yves really established himself within the industry.

The industry was fast becoming ruthless to young aspiring designers such as Yves, as such he had to differentiate himself from his fellow designers if he was to fulfill his ambition, of making Saint Laurent designs sit atop the fashion world. Models and actresses gushing over his creations and making YSL a household name.

As the Parisian fashion scene became stale, Yves along with his business partner decided it was time, they jumped across the pond, and hit he American industry with iconic fashion pieces which yet were unheard of stateside. There was a clear gap in the market, the rich and famous in America were drooling to be well but yet outspokenly dressed, like their counterparts in Europe.

As one chapter in Yves's live closed, a new one opened. His journey to achieving the great American dream.

As an already established designer back in Europe, a 21 year old Yves had decided that now was the time he tapped into the American market, which now was more hungry than ever before for stylish clothing. Young actresses, boldish mafiosos and outspoken politicians were craving eye catching clothing to match their personalities. Haute couture was in demand in America. So what America needed was a Yves Saint Laurent, and they say America gets what it wants. So a young hungry Saint Laurent, with a few associates made their eagerly anticipated journey across to the USA.

Saint Laurent, wanted his brand to become a household name, he wanted to become a fashion icon, and he knew that could only be achieved if he could captivate the American market. In doing so he would need to open boutique stores across the country in big cities.

Although Saint Laurent, had made a name for himself back in Europe, the money flow still wasn't enough to make a significant impact on the American market. He needed a cash influx, he needed support from a financier here in the states, someone who could provide financial backing to his business.

It was then, a client of his came to mind. Well actually two clients of his, and they both were from the same city, so it made perfect sense for a young aspiring businessman to approach some familiar faces for some financial support.

@Stacy, she was on his top clients, infact one of his best works, was a dress he made for the young lady. It was a handmade custom fitted, exclusive dress constructed by hand from start to finish, made from high-quality, expensive, often unusual fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by Yves himself - often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques. Made out of 100% silk the buttoned and ruffled dress with a deep v-neck and wide draped straps that are crossed in back, was truly a jaw dropping dress. This was a elegant dress for a elegant woman, designed by a designer whom oozed elegance.

@Stacy, evidently ecstatic about the outcome of her dress recommend Yves, to her friend @Frank-Cali. Mr Cali, had required a evening wear for a ball he was attending. So Yves quickly got to work and designed a timeless signature shelton suit, designed with peak lapels and fully lined, crafted with lightweight wool slike blent with subtle dark overcheck, absolutely tailor fitted for Mr Cali.

Of the little conversation he had with them previously, he knew they were based in Chicago, so he made his way over to them, to their headquarters of The Ministry of Magic. After what seemed to be a timely discussion, where Yves outlined his plans on growing his brand out here in USA with the financial backing of Stacy and Frank-Cali. They duly agreed, to Yves's delight.

His dream was beginning to underway. He now had the support, and funding needed to open a boutique store in Chicago's business district.

Yves had bought over with himself, some of his signature pieces. They would be displayed in his first ever American YSL boutique store in Chicago's Business District.

He was hoping this would attract fashionistas from across the country to visit his store. But more importantly, he was hoping to inspire a whole new generation of young fashion designers to step up, and hopefully one day being able to collaborate together and create some wonderful pieces of art.

So Ladies and Gentleman, I hereby pronounce myself to you as - Yves Saint Laurent, or abbreviated as YSL.

Here are some of my most inspiring quotes, I hope this may inspire some of you mafiosos to bin those rugged clothing you think you look cool in.

-Dressing is a way of life

-Fashions fade, style is eternal

-We must never confuse elegance, with snobbery

-The most beautiful makeup for a woman is passion, but cosmetics are easier to buy

-Without elegance in the heart, there is no elegance

The most beautiful clothes that can dress a woman are the arms of the man she loves. But for those who haven’t had the fortune of finding this happiness, I am here.

Be elegant, be unique, be Yves Saint Laurent.

Frank looked at Stacy as she gave the nod to help YvesSaintLaurent start a business in the states.   His base of operation would be in Chicago with a direct connection to New York to mass produce Suits and Dress from the Messes.  Frank knew the players he needed.  He smiled as he stood and shook Yves hand.  Then gave him a nod to follow him as Stacy went about her business for the rest of the day.  Frank pulled out a cigarette and Andy his driver quickly lit it with his silver zippo lighter Frank nodded to thank Andy as he exhaled.

Yves, I hope you don't mind me calling you Yves but were friends now no need to be so formal.  Here's what I'm going to do for you my friend.  Frist I'm going to front you the cash so you can purchase the material you need to create the outfits.  In Chicago we have many buildings for you to operate out of we just have to select one and talk with the Don Ellie she will give the go ahead then with Don Ellie's blessing we start dealing with the politics of the Garment business and the unions.  Don't worry about them I have friends that will handle the legalese of all that mess.

The garment unions wont touch you're actions nor slow you down in any shape, form or fashion.  Hey that's funny shape, form or fashion when you are talking about your type of business.

Frank chuckles

Anyway my point is this I have the connections to get you the best deals on whatever you need because of friends of ours.  I got Judges, Lawyers, congressmen and women Senators and unions.  We have friends in ever state and we are bigger then any corporation in America.  You my friend just won the jackpot and we will put your product on the backs of everyone that can afford to pay for it from coast to coast and over sea's.

I will introduce you to my pals Charlie and Tommy they helped me when I was stuck in that filthy detention center on Ellis Island.  These two will make sure everything will run right out there in New York and help you get into every store front worth getting into to sale your stuff.  In Detroit we got connection as well and I own the largest shipping net work in the US.  I ship goods from coast to coast daily.  It's a good operation.

Taking a puff from his cigarette then exhaling slowly as they walk.

I'm not losing ya am kid?  I mean I can ramble on and on.  Long gest of this is your in good hands with us.  The Chicago outfit has connections from coast to coast in every arena of business my friend however nothing is free friends of ours all get a taste and Yves you piece may look small today but when you talk about putting millions of dollar in your pocket small then those that don't aren't in business.  Their shit burns and is foreclosed because they could cover the price of doing business.

Frank takes another puff from his cigarette then exhaling slowly as they walk.

Yves 50 percent of a million is 500 thousand but when your talking 100 million your now holding 50 million.  don't worry where the rest went because you will be holding 50% with no out of pocket expenses.   Your labor force problems they will be handled with the union and we make more money with the unions.  Your legal issues and expense you wont see because our friends in DC, Chicago and New York they deal with all that mumbo jumbo.  Materials issues bull shit you need something that exclusive we make that shit yours, as a matter of fact in time they will start offering that shit to you before anyone else my friend.

Frank takes his last puff then tosses the butt on the ground an as he exhales he extinguishes the butt with his foot smashing it by twisting his foot from left to right several times as if he was stepping on somebody's neck.  He did it with such vigor that it looked as if he wanted to kill someone just to please his lust. Frank looked him in the eyes to see if Yves agreed with the deal.

It's not always about dollars and cents its about nuts and bolts and friends and customers too in your business world.  I'm offering you the whole job as a partner.  I'll handle the business side you handle the fashion side and we walk to the bank pushing wheel barrows.

It had been sometime that Yves had found his feet in the American fashion industry. His YSL brand had experienced rapid growth in the states. The demand for tailor made couture clothing was sky high during this era. The rich and famous wanted to be well dressed, and YSL was here to deliver that, it was no only the famous that wanted to be well dressed of course. During the prohibition period, the Italian Mafia, had been basking in wealth, and they of course had a great taste in fashion, and always required to be well dressed.

Since YSL opened its first stores in the US, it had been backed by the then Chicago crime family, especially under the tutelage of a certain Mr Frank-Cali. Frank had one mentioned to Yves in the early days of business that Los Angeles had a thriving criminal underworld, that would be happy to support Yves's business endeavours, encouraging the young Frenchman to move his talents to the west coast.

Naturally, he knew the move to Los Angeles was inevitable. The City of Angeles, Hollywood in particular is the showbiz capital of the world. The superstars here wanted good looks, and look good in it. Simply there was a booming market for the YSL brand in Los Angeles.

It was going to be a tough move, moving from Chicago to Los Angeles, just as it had been moving from Paris to Chicago, but Yves had a dream as a young boy, that his brand be a household name, and moving to LA would fulfill this ambition, this dream, the great American dream.

So the time came, Yves called his friend and business partner, Stefano_Lucchese asking him if he knew of any contacts in Los Angeles that could get him going. Shortly after he mentioned a certain GiovanniLaurelwho was a man of influence down in the West Coast, that could help Yves set up a store down there.

Yves made the call, and soon after made the journey down to Los Angeles, with the ambition of opening a YSL store in the Los Angeles Business District.

Stefano spoke with Yves he had a few connection in Las Angeles he reached out to them.  They agreed to ensure Yves would be safe and the business protected.  Stefano agreed to cut them in out his percentage to ensure that the business would thrive and a bit of something beats the heck out of nothing.  He looked at the balance sheets and it was a profitable business.  He then turned to his own balance books and reviewed what his own bottom line looked like then offered Katherine_ Pryde a ten percent cut for her protection of the rackets out west.   The deal was on her table and if she agrees then Stefano would introduce them to each other.

Stefano had a lot of trust he her skills and the people she worked with just as he had respect for the work Yves did on the business end.  He was happy to be shipping good out west just as the company did when Frank-Cali ran it.  He had big shoes to fill and this was a step in the right direction.  Stefano knew that if this goes well that he could expand on all kinds of shipments from car's to booze and everything in between.  He looked at the things in a bigger picture mind set.  How could he connect this to that and generate more income.  That is what kept him going.

Yves needed the protection for his business of course. No doubt they'd be people trying to make a move on him, especially if the business became really successful, I'm sure some people would want their share of the pie.

He was glad Stefano_Lucchese knew of people down in the west coast, that could help Yves on that front. He was keen to meet the person in question, so they could form some sort of agreement.

Of course Yves was devastated when his mentor Mr Frank Cali had passed away, but since Stefano took over the reigns, business has been smooth sailing, so Yves did not need to worry about that end, and could focus on what he loved to do, which was to tailor and design clothing for the rich and famous, and oh of course the Mafioso's.
