A crowd of 300 all with the same goal in mind...which is to protect one person? They could take someone out in a random crowd of nobodies....agreed. Possibly even 50 to 100 BGs....ok I guess....but 300+++.

It's all highly unlikely....this isn't 2010 we're talking about. There's no insanely complex/accurate Barrett M82A1, m200 Intervention or Remington MSR types of things. It's all about the shooter...yes, I know. Still it may be "easy" (not that easy with 300+++BGs in a tight circle around a guy)for a good sniper today with the guns we have now....but back then..it would be insanely more difficult.
