Big names in the Big suit Started by: Toke-N-Choke on Dec 22, '10 06:26

Toke inhales on his joint for a long second. Thinking about what to say. Exhaling the smoke, he coughed, and stood up in the crowd.

Ok so, I come here to talk about crewleaders and their names. I believe I've seen this discussion before, but frankly, I'm just bored. So...What makes a great crewleader? His ability to lead? His contacts? His Name?

I personally believe that last one makes a big impact on who someone would choose to be their Captain. I mean look, all these proffesional names.. TonyCorreli, CharlieCroker, Sal, Joey_Cesari. Why isn't there a FuckFacedDickMuncher wearing the bold suit? Also, I've noticed no names that you'd see in a fucking chatroom. Wheres ExTreMeH0mo18?

So here we have all these Dons and Godfathers with these proffessional names, with a few exceptions, of course.

Toke looks to Don DickWad.

So, my question is this. Do you think ones name makes a big impact on who wears the bold suit?

Toke stands back, waiting for someone to put in their two-sense - or possibly throw an orange at him.

I see what you mean, but my forefathers' journals indicate that one of my ancestors served loyally under a Godfather by the name of Butt_Ox, who prior to taking the helm as Godfather was Godfather ThomasRourke's feared and respected Right Hand Man for a long period of time, so your argument is somewhat flawed.

On the other hand though, just earlier today I saw a civilian named the_jew_smasher trotting along 62nd Street (the 60 second list). My guess is we won't be seeing him in either bold or slanted pin-stripes any time soon, so maybe you're onto something and perhaps one's name does effect who does and doesn't get to be put into positions of prominence. Still I'd argue that it is moreso one's performance and commitment that determines who gets to don the esteemed bold suit than one's name.

Historically, Mafioso are assigned odd-sounding and sometimes unflattering nicknames by their peers, even the most feared, ruthless and respected ones. In Our World however we are afforded the luxury of choosing our own. I don't believe it makes that much of a difference.

Report Post Tip

Though there must be obvious exceptions, I don't know enough people to point them out, I'd wager anyone who's comfortable with a name like those you gave as examples isn't the type of person you would typically take seriously. Given that it's easy for people in our line of business to work under our own aliases, there isn't really an excuse to go around as 'FuckFacedDickMuncher' and even less reason to want someone like that representing your crew on the streets.

Report Post Tip

I agree with Selatcia, it does make a difference, although it is slight. Obviously someone with a name like the_jew_smasher isn't getting far, but that is due to an outrageous and offensive name, someone like I_Like_Homos might make it though.. There are limits.

Anyways, since you asked for it..

Se7ven lobs an orange at Toke, narrowly missing his head before running away cackling.

Report Post Tip

If we relied on our names, I think it's safe to say I would clearly be Godfather of all eight cities + Delaware City.

So I say your logic is flawed because I am not.

...Not that I'm implying I won't be Godfather of all eight cities. Just takes a bit of time, is all.

And pettying - I'm sure that's part of the process, too.

Tony walks by the gravyard noticing some of the names on the tombstones as he quickly scans the area for anyone he knew from the past

I personally hate it when people make a mockary of the criminal world we live with silly names that are both not business friendly or proper for the conduct we are expected to to involved with. There will always be those will try to 'test the system' and some will get away with it due to the rules we have between ourselfs as responsible mobsters etc.

Of course a name doesnt preclude anyone from having the skills, contacts or financial means to organize and obtain a family, but when we start to go down this road - we must remember these people are rolemodels to our society and where our society will go in the future. Leave a legacy that will be remembered for more than a surface than a silly name.

But hell, its a fine line just like everything else we do around here..and at the end of the day its all about who you know and who has the balls to do something about it if they care enough about it and the power to enforce it.

Tony walks by and notices his friend Cav's gravesite already predug and ready for his casket..Tony pours out a little liquor before noticing the hole is empty.. Tony quickly drinks the rest of his drink and goes to search for Cav to put him back in his hole

Doc rumages through some of his ancestors diaries...

It would appear there has always been a leader or two with a name that caused a few giggles, but were still taken seriously in our world; Father PatMcGroin being one, also Dick Gozinya another. And who can forget Gwarble? What kind of name is that!

We currently have a very prominent leader in New York that doesn't even know her name, which seems to have done her no harm at all.

FuckFacedDickMuncher.

All I have to say about that name is that if I was a Crew Leader or a Godfather. He would be first on my list to Auth. Then nobody else could say they have a guy named FuckFacedDickMuncher as a Crew Leader in there city.

But on the whole topic. I don't think it has anything to do with who gets chosen at all. I've seen people without a name get Authed before. I forget how he did it. I think it was some underdashes or something but he got Auth without a name. So just goes to show your name doesn't impact it at all.

Report Post Tip

Hows my name? Is it decent? Or am I in the "FuckFaceDickMuncher" category?

Report Post Tip

I suppose it all depends on how one behaves in the end. If "FuckFaceDickMuncher" acted like a "FuckFaceDickMuncher", he would likely get no where, but if he was a stand up guy and a good earner, then should a CL cast him aside because of his name?

Report Post Tip

I agree with TonyCorelli, I also don't like names that make a mockery of our world, if someone known as 'FuckFaceDickMuncher' were to get auth, then what does that say about our society? I think a persons name gives the first impression on what kind of person they are, as Selatcia said, we are given the luxury to choose out own names, which is why I think it reflects on what kind of person they are.

I wouldn't say it has a great effect on who gets authed though, as there have been some strange named leaders! Though I would like it to, and think that it should.

There's my two cents anyway.

I fail to see why Don Dick is nonprofessional? Just because I stand taller, firmer, and more upright than most don't give you the right!

Dick stumbles in a drunken stupor

Think I'm nonprofessional? We have one Don who can't even think of her own name! Yes, Alzheimer's could be a cause, but I blame it more on the illegal substances.

She scratches her head and smiles.

I can't say I agree. My own great-grandmother DirtyLittleSekrit did fine for herself. She even became the Godmother of Los Angeles way back when. She was a hard working woman who tried her best to show nothing but respect. People called her by her nickname rather than her given name. I don't see a problem with that as Theresa "Dirty Little Sekrit" Adelle Elizabeth McGillicuddy seems a bit long.

A worried look crosses her face..

My parents named me appropriately right? It's professional and everything? I'd hate for it to be an embarrassment to my boss.

*while standing a bit behind his per toke n choke, catches the orange thrown at him by 7control, then after noticing its a good orange from californaia, decided to give it to the homeless old man at the corner*

-Well the question has the right to exist, and despite all preconceived beliefs...one may think its all about MARKETING right ^_~!?

-I mean, being a leader is kinda serious, you dont want really to go around with an too odd name like you are a joke, or a clown. RIght!?

- Having a PLain , so called :professionnal " name, is just the true identity and nature of the person itself, no fuss, no show just plain and simple yet, having something attached to it, then you may think its like an artist name, such as a pseudo.

ex:

Al Neit NJ (normal name), Al "the diplomat" Nj quick name plus the street name, AL Diplomat, when the nickname became the Street/artist name, AL D. the shorty for friend of the same name.

although we cant really change our name here we could possibly between ourselves add up one for thoses we know...

Ex: Toke N choke the "story teller" aka Toke "The story"Choke..

respect

Does a name make the Boss?? or does the Boss make the name??

Report Post Tip

In regards to your example, perhaps it could be toned down a shade as it's a bit linguistically offensive, but theoretically it's a legitimate name. Any female or homosexual male that likes to please a man with their mouth is technically being fucked in the face, and munching on a dick. All in all it could be a summary of their favourite pasttime, much like RichardWad as a matter of fact as he enjoys living up to his nickname of DickWad.

Back to the matter at hand though, first impressions are a lot in this life. If you create a bad impression then perhaps you wont be given half the opportunities as someone with a normal name or a name which stands out in a positive way. The name you referred to is a name which stands out in a negative way and thus the person would be creating a bad impression. I'd happily take on someone called SuperStarMcAwesome, yet I might think twice about IFuckedYourMum.

For me, personally, names mean nothing. You could be named the most vulgar thing imaginable and I would hold no weight on that. First impressions may mean a lot to some, but I don't see ones name as their first impression. I look at their actions and how they represent the family they belong to and then evaluate them as an individual.

Things that stick out to me are something like seeing Thugs being RHM or LHM to a family or possibly Insanely Well Protected Thugs that haven't done anything yet aside from get a ride off their family name. Yes, there are many that have bloodlines that time and time again deliver, but there's also some that are hit and miss. I personally had to prove myself before being able to receive bodyguards which I feel is only right.

I look for hardworking individuals that are willing to earn what they should receive, not receive something before they do anything aside from return to the life their fathers once led.

Very touchy topic. I personally wouldn’t want to be told what to do by a guy name DecktheBalls. Not due to the fact that his name is unprofessional but because a person’s name is my first impression, and most people earn their nicknames based on something unique about them. So I ask if your name is DecktheBalls what have you been doing in your spare time and why haven’t you done something worthy of earning you a better name. Sure you can earn a ton of money but that still don’t wash away the fact that you Polish balls in your spare time.

I guess what I’m trying to say is your name describes you and it also is your legacy it’s how people know what to expect from you; this can sometimes be good or bad. Now that doesn’t mean Mr. Deck can’t or won’t run his own crew or city it just means he’ll have to work allot harder than a decedent of say Marietta or a person who carries the title Rourke.

By the way what happened to all the Rourkes my grandfather talked about so many of them all the time?
