I personally definitely judge people by their name.  Certainly people with names that are extremely rude, or racist or just over the top obscene are often left out in the cold to be shot by passing mafioso because they clearly lack a vital thing to being part of a family.... common sense.

However, and I am only using him because someone brought him up as an example already, but to me Mr. Wad's name, although its unfortunate his parents gave him the name Richard because seriously did they not see he would get made fun of in the schoolyard, is hilarious.  It shows that his parents have a certain sense of humour which I appreciate, and look for in people I would like to associate myself with.

Its it juvenille potty humour?  Perhaps.   But at least its an attempt at humour.

So in summary:  You can still gain respect if your name is not 100% serious.   But not if your name is rude and offensive.
