See this is what happens when people don't understand the law of the land. 

So for example crisis planning is the responsibility of the federal govnt. The States don't have very much legal cover to enter this territory. What the states can do is what Governor Cuomo is doing. Hes basically said Fuck the Federal govnt on testing and is running his own labs in NY. Hes purchasing every mask, PPE, Gown, Ventilator he can get his hands on. But with the whole world trying...there are limited resources. 

Enter voila! The defense production bill. The President can basically tell companies I want 20k ventilators in 2 weeks....put up the upfront capital and were producing. But because this current President cares only for his reelection, wall street bulls and suppression of the "hoax" that is corona. The federal government is lagging horrifically behind our CHIEF EXECUTIVE Cuomo. Now were NY state, were one of the bigger economies on the planet, we have more resources than most to make ends meet. However we also have more than 15% of the USA population that lives here as well. So its all relative. 

Little note here though is. President is trying to negotiate terms over ventilators, after staking 15% of the countries population at stake. 

Another piece of info is this. So far the only states that are hit by this are Washington, NY, Cali. They are the only ones actually testing and going thru the progressions. The rest of the country has yet to see the spike, test kits and the crisis in its face. I don't wish ill on anyone. But when the wolves come knocking on your door. Ill ask what you think about the administration. 

And this coming from someone that works in the Health industry.

I hear what your saying. See every population is different. So for example, people tend to follow their leadership. When Cuomo asked for retirees, medical workers, medical/nursing students to sign up for a spike. 40k applicants signed up. Cause they rallied to their governors call. 

Now we also sadly have leaders like Trump and Boris. That believed in keeping economies going, since thats whats most important....even more than citizen lives. Now obv when these leaders stand infront of the camera and say "Were opening the economy by Easter" or "Its a hoax", "This will only raise the immunity" and so forth. To the extent our President even talked about 'acceptable fatalities'. 

So yea, when leaders talk like that. What do you think the population is going to do? Cause take into account with the super polarization. Its not about facts anymore. Its about who can charge up their base the most. And their base is fine with transmitting the virus and being the cause of hundreds of cases and potential deaths. Comes down to leadership. 

Point to be noted here though is this. In times of Crisis leaders rise to the top. Just look at how the Rah! Rah! Rah Modi, Boris, Trump are getting crushed by this Crisis. And on the other hand the 'soft boy' Justin up north is crushing it. How 'corrupt' Cuomo is shining. 

Rhetoric, conversation...only goes so far. Its when you see action from your leadership. When Citizens bind together for forward progression. 

So it's now the governments fault that private companies want to try to rape the government and take advantage of the crisis? 

I try really really hard not to let politics upset me. But your narrow view of this entire thing is very frustrating. Could the government had done more? Absolutely, I don't think you'll find anyone wearing any color that will say otherwise. But to try to spin this as some sort of deliberate reelection campaign is where you start crossing into the crazy lines. 

Good for NY for doing what is in their power instead of waiting on the federal government to hold their hand. Those people are elected for a reason, to act in the best interest of their state. But it's the feds fault, solely, for everyone's inaction? Surely states, city mayors, the CDC and WHO all own a piece of this mess. 

We dod same with volunteers in UK, had 600k sign up as drivers, medecine runners etc, porters, meal delivery people for the vulnerable.

On top of that, people were happy to rejoin out of retirement to help in the crisis, i think one paper quoted it as about 12000 staff returning to work in across pharmacists, doctors, nurses after Boris called for them.   So we have had the same here,

Boris also shut down non-essential businesses, bars, restaurants etc? and paid people 80% of wages, no it wasn't his first tactoc but has been the tactic used when new information came to light.   We have been converting hotels etc into hospitals, adding extra money to the NHS, even the military is distributing the PPE, which my own family had weeks back to work in.   Yet the boris out papers instead say no PPE.   The bigger problem is the rate it is used at and often the centralisation, meaning a can infect b, c and d trying to get to PPE as people are stealing it to take home.

Leadership means nothing in the UK, around 30% of people have faith in politicians and the media generally, they don't trust businesses are they caused things like the financial crisis and expect exploitation.    55% of people trusted the governments handling of the corona crisis recently, but the fact is people will do what they want when over 1 in 4 still believe in the conspiracy theories like corona was weaponised to break western economies.    Is the same way get the anti vaxxers in US.    It doesn't matter the leadership, they will believe what they want.
IS a reason as low as 40% turn out in UK for elections.

Boris is only get crushed by the left wing media here, with him and half the cabinet likely to have corona now as him and health secretary have both caught it.    Many scientist here, cheif medical officer etc back his initial herd immunity and people do.    Parents even treat it like chicken pox here, catch it get it out of the way.

The big issue he has, is with the eu over a ventilator scheme which has caused controversy as at first the EU ordered ventilators not to be exported outside the EU, then offered UK in, Then said we don't know if you will get any or when, so he continued to mobilise UK industry instead.





 

I will go further, as the biggest problem for the UK is successive Left and Right-wing governments haven't given the NHS the support it needs, understaffed and underfunded since the 60s when our reliance on foreign doctors and nurses started, it failed to alter the education system enough to train and the pay structure enough to maintain staff.

I can work in a factory here and earn more than a junior doctor or nurse? is that really right?

The UK also mobilised student doctors into work extra with the corona crisis, my health authority covers about the half the cases in a 3 million people area on detected.

The biggest 2 problems for the UK is antibody tests and detection tests, which are not gold dust to fin in massive orders as all manufacturers feed the global crisis.

On top of that shortage on key items due to the panic buy mentality that the media feeds here saying you will not be able to get x, y and z, so people buy them thinking they won't be able to get them.   They did the same when no deal was looking likely with Brexit.  Saying you wont get certain fruit, foods, toilet paper as come from Europe.   If press can't be controlled they should be shut down for adding to a crisis.

The talk here is a full lockdown, til June/July, no school till September as exam marks going to be taken from average grades and attention.

No one can plan for anything sadly as clueless how long this will go on, as different countries tackle it different ways.

I will not get into the political side of things. I will pray for all of those affected. My hubby's best friend got it and he's currently in the CCU on a vent. His grandson also got it.

This man was not in poor health nor, was he older. He is 48 years old. He is slowly getting better, but, his family is ravaged as well, because they cannot be with him, and only get updates every 12 hours.

Doll. I understand your frustrations, and I am sure others will echo this here as well. However cultures are different. Every culture has its on delicacies, that other cultures wouldn't deem plausible. However that doesn't make it right or wrong. Its a cherished tradition, and probably not something that will be halted voluntarily. 

With all that said. Patient zero as they say in epidemic/pandemic terms, has been found. And the transmission of the virus had less to do with what you stated above. And more to do with psychological lapses. I wont go much further into this, to spare yall the disgust. If your really curious. I am sure you can look up 'Patient Zero COVID19'

Fact is we will see more epidemics come out of these places the same way, the general mentality of people being social creatures, self-isolating is just a struggle for them.   Have read a few patient zero articles where claims haven't been found or offer different ages of the patient so hard to know who to trust.

I know in the UK at present they are claiming is a drop in human contact between people from 2.6 to .62 people to potentially infect but I don't and won't understand people ignoring health warnings on distance, I went out and was a queue outside a shop, with people coughing.    The first cough would have meant I was nowhere near that line.   From the person sufferings point, I would not of even left the house.

The biggest issue seems people getting same deliveries especially medicines, and instead of exposing themselves to more risk.   MY hospital now has about 50 corona patients between 20-40 and soon un-used theatre and post-op recovery beds will be the new ICU

This is why you should watch your symptoms, reduce contact with other people, and disinfect yourself when you come home if you have to go outside.

As far as lacking hospital supplies this is the fault if politicians hiding things in the propositions and laws that we allow the politicians to pass. This is why it is important for voters to read everything they can find on the new laws ( that we get to vote on), to help catch politicians hidden agendas.  

Due to these hidden agendas, people( unknowingly) voted to reduce funding to hospitals, this is the result when you need them they don't have funds.

Read the laws you vote in their entire boring form when you can. I can not stress how important is to Read them in their entirety as these hidden laws are buried in the middle or at the end.  When you find   these hidden laws that take funds from important services such as the medical field don't vote for it. 

I just wonder if we are going to extint the virus at some point or not. Sometimes they say that the "Phase 2" will be "cohabiting" with the virus, meaning that at some point we'll all take it and either get a vaccine or antibodies for it? I'd really rather have our societies to get rid of it, even if it means waiting more before coming back to normality.

fact is Uk is pretty much on a 2 weeks after Italy style curve, so is not long til 1000 a day die in theory.

Was watching Cuomo the same way talking about the centralisation of equipment, but this has been part of the UK's problem, as some hospitals burn through ppe and other equipment faster than can be restocked.    The centralisation also means several stages where the ppe packs are vulnerable as they change from hands a-b-c.   NHS England has suffered a lot due to this especially when goods needed in york, or Newcastle, maybe sat in a centralised zone in London.

The UK has been especially slow on ventilator purchases and declining to join the EU system, means slower PPE and ventilator production, whilst at the same time telling UK companies to give us your designs, and then not purchasing them.   Os a Gentleman at the hospital near me being told his ventilator is being withdrawn as they think will help someone else better possibly.   Is basically a point where just handing out death sentences.

That's a Cummings Government for you - cheaper and more efficient to thin the herd than it is to properly prepare. Let a few benefit claimants die out so the UC bill drops.

Once it becomes obvious that you're prioritising the economy over the health of the Kingdom - to much derision - throw lucrative Government contracts at your business interests, like James Dyson in Singapore but refuse any offers of help from the EU; those horrible sneaky foreigners will use it to prove that the EU is a good thing. Expect privately trading companies to submit ventilator schematics for free, offer to buy ventilators and PPE in the press, but only follow up on the donators - obviously - and make sure they're all well remunerated. Ghost the rest.

Don't worry that a proposal to increase funding to the NHS was denied by a Tory majority - to rapturous applause, because you can make up for it by having the commoners stand in the street applaudung the workforce in some arbitrary show of unity, like the applause will better protect the front line than the appropriate PPE.

Rush a bill through, granting the police a very vague set of powers, for a very vague, undetermined period of time, and encourage them to enforce it on anyone not abiding by the rules set forth by said vague - extremely recent, hitherto unknown laws.

"Catch" the "mild strain" of the virus, have test administered immediately - despite front line staff being unable to get testing kits. Hide in fridge for a few days, then appear again and claim to be all better, despite official advice being a 2 week isolation.

Have Prince of the Kingdom tested, and then transferred - INTERNATIONALLY - to his holiday home, and increase demand on local services in a rural area.

But the thing is ventilators haven't been coming from his friend's companies generally, they have come from China, US, German Army etc, open offers were given out and many companies took up the option in varying quantities.

Companies started submitting, just Dyson and a few companies did it less than 2 weeks,   He is even freely given some away, and is not the just UK he is providing, I think 1000 are for the UK.   The biggest general issue being too many people reliant on south-east Asia for electronics to make such items, or time to reset machinery if possible.

Well has to be a vague time when even the experts don't know how long this will go on for,m has been up to a year til peak at one stage.

Out of the 5,000 or so engineering firms who offered help, the 2 main contractors employed by the Conservatives to meet the UK's ventilator needs are Dyson and Babcock International - those two firms have been contracted to meet 2/3 of the 30,000 requirement.

James Dyson was appointed as the "UK's technology Tsar" in 2009, was a proponent of Brexit, is a long-time Conservative party member and is a heavy private investor to the conservative party.

Babcock International work for the UK Government, operating Network Rail and fulfilling the contracts for Trident on behalf of the MoD, were proponents of Brexit, and their share prices rose significantly when the Tory party was elected.

These are not coincidences. These firms back the party financially and will receive substantial assistance in one form or another... to think otherwise is naive.
