Consider the size of the arenas. On the football/soccer pitch, you have more room. Even with a ball moving at the speed it's moving, you have time to adjust to it. Now, take hockey. The rink is much smaller than a field of grass, and therefore, with a puck moving quickly, you have less time to react to it. While realizing that both games move quickly, one group of athletes does this on skates...the other on their own two feet. Considering the balance it takes to skate, factored in with the size of the arena/venue, my vote goes to hockey. Even if both sports were to be equal in terms of "speed", these factors above make hockey a much quicker sport to play. As for watching though...hockey is a snorefest. If this were a popularity contest, football/soccer would win 10x over. |

Of course hockey players can skate faster than football/soccer players. You ever tried to run on an ice rink? Whether the hockey players could run on the pitch faster than soccer/football players....WHILST they have the skates on is an entirely different matter. |

Here's an idea. Why don't you nobs actually do a little research and get some facts? This isn't really a topic that is open to opinion. There's a right and a wrong answer. If you are defining "faster" as which travels faster, a puck or a ball, the answer is a puck. If you are using other criteria to define "fast", I'm sure you can find some relevant statistics to answer those questions, too. The speed of the game can be determined by the speed of the ball (or puck), the speed of the players' movement, the pace of the action as far as frequent passing and turnovers, and other subjective characteristics. All of it is probably discernible through recorded statistics. |

| Hockey is much more violent sport but its not as intense as soccer, its continuous play for 45+ mins each half the tackles can be nearly as ruthless as hockey too. | |

Wasn't there a thread on this a long time ago? This is not a question that is subject to opinion. There is a correct answer, and it is hockey, any way you define "faster". Hockey players skate faster than soccer players run. A hockey puck travels faster than a ball. The play action is more constant in hockey. These are all facts, and they are all verifiable by looking through the respective sport statistics. This is a no brainer. Fuck sakes, why don't we just ask "which is wetter, water or sand?". |
