Mind your own Started by: Luanne on Oct 13, '20 01:41

So since Covid came along in 2020 life has changed so much, It is hard to watch the news, our home towns are being looted and burned down, people kill each other foe petty shit or see who owns what.

People you don't know feel like they have a right to tell you if or if not to wear a mask, Mind your won!

So much hate, we need love and kindness and let people choose if they want to mask up or not, if it's not hurting you then mind your own business, God made us all the same in his own image.

So next time you feel the need to approach anyone, if their believes are not yours than mine your own!!!

Report Post Tip
I can relate to what you're saying. It really seems like everyday brings new doom and gloom. I almost hate to turn on the news yet I feel the need to stay informed. The one thing I always try to tell myself is that everything you see on the news for the most part may be front and center, but it's not a true representation of our average life. Yes there are assholes looting, Yes there are assholes who are plotting domestic terrorist bullshit. Yes theres assholes killing others. But all in all these are small isolated incidents but because it gets the people viewing, it's plastered all over the news, giving the appearance that we really need to fear for ourselves because it appears common. But in reality it's more of a storm in a teacup.

It's a big world out there filled with a lot of good people, sure a fair bit of us are currently in the slumps because... you know... (gestures around at everything). But I do believe things will get better soon both in appearance and actuality once a lot of the pressure of the pandemic is off and life can resume properly. Hang in there and smile knowing that someone's life must be very tiring if their goal is to be all up in your business about correcting beliefs.

(Unless that belief revolves around putting pineapple and ham on pizza then you can kindly die a slow death)

Yeah people are honestly the worst, It is stupid that people think that they are "doing good" by destroying homes, and killing innocent people, it's messed up and it's sad to me.

Report Post Tip

I certainly don't get the impression that many think they are "doing good" by destroying, killing or looting. I'm more confident that's it's just assholes taking advantage of the already panicked and stressful situations and using serious incidents, concerns over the way many of our citizens are treated, and using mob mentality to their advantage to do horrible things that they already wanted to do. Sort of like a distraction or smoke screen from what they are doing, or why they are actually doing it. There are ways to be assertive and make points that will hopefully bring around much needed change and none of them involve burning down random shops and factories, putting already struggling families out of work, or killing anyone.

I believe there is a huge difference in the groups that are trying to "do good" and the groups or individuals that just want to take advantage of the situation, and that they are likely rarely made up of the same people. At least not from the start.

With that said, I absolutely agree with Squishy that the world is a big place and a lot of these things you see and hear on the news are pretty isolated incidents. It doesn't mean that none of these things are happening, but if it gets them more viewers then most (if not all) news outlets will be trying to have you believe the entire world is burning right in between their segments about dog selfies and cat-onesies.

sorry Luanne but your view on masks to me, is both naïve and selfish.

I understand you're probably not in the at risk category but you could very well be asymptomatic and carry it to someone vulnerable.

why would you do that?  Even if it goes against what you consider to be your human rights, other humans rights exist too, and they include not being infected with a potentially lethal virus.

I agree with everything else, there's a lot of panic (and a lot of news and press using the situation to their own ends) but when it comes to wearing masks, even if it only has a 0.000001% chance of keeping someone safe, then i'm masking up and you should too.

I absolutely agree with you Juanita. I know it sucks to have to wear a mask, but what is an inconvenience for one person could very well be a life-or-death matter for another person.

I sit in a classroom for anywhere between 3-6 hours a day with a mask on and then go to work for 8 hours a day and still have to wear it. And it sucks for each and every minute that I need to wear it. It's uncomfortable, makes breathing more difficult and fogs up my sunglasses if I'm outside (probably much worse for those that need to wear prescription glasses at all times), but in the end it's just an inconvenience to keep myself and others safe. It's not about infringing on anyones rights, it's about safety for your community and friends, and about having respect for strangers.

At the end of the day, knowing that I've done my best to ensure I'm not carrying this disease home with me means that I can go and visit my parents, or visit with my significant other's family without as much fear of potentially sending someone that is at a higher risk than myself to the hospital. I know if I caught it I'd probably bounce back, but if my mother caught it... or my SO's mother? It could likely be a very different story. One I'd have a very hard time forgiving myself for.

I think what most people forget about the mask situation is that, We arent wearing the mask to protect ourselves, but to protect everyone else around us.

I am not a fan of the mask, But with my job, I have to wear one pretty much all day, and because of that, Ive gotten to the point that is does not even really bother me, nor do I notice that it is on when I am wearing it.

I think somewhere things got mixed up in what I was trying to say, I am a masking wearing person, I love my elder parents and  would NEVER EVER put them at risk or anyone elseI love , I was referring to people saying it is WRONG for me wear one.

2020 has been one of the most effed up years in recent memory. Ya'll have pointed out some of the obvious things happening. I hope we all come out of it better people and appreciate what we have a cherish it.

Amen Benny! A better world would be great.

I like to live by what I call "Gas Station Politics". My main interaction with the public outside of work is at the local filling station at the end of my street. As long as we are all treating each other with respect there, I have to consider most of the shit I read on the internet or the shit that is presented to me via media as simply that... SHIT. I never see any disrespect or unfair treatment based on any of the "traits" that the electronic world keeps shoving down our throats 24/7. I can only comment on the States but my belief is that it doesn't matter where you come from, skin color, religious belief, sexual orientation, ANY of it! As long as we are here and paying taxes, we are on the most level playing field.

It's time to stop shitting on the American flag and remind the corporations, media and government that they are the ones that are really taking a shit on what this country means.

I dislike wearing a mask, but I dislike conflict even more. I conform and wear it because I feel we don't know enough about the risks and would never get over it if I transmitted COVID and it resulted in someone getting sick or worse.

Report Post Tip

Agreed Oligarch ... I'm amazed mask-wearing has become a politicized thing.   I'm sure no one (or very few who knows) people enjoy wearing a mask, but it's more of an etiquette thing at this stage.    It's not matter of a person being scared so they put on the mask, it's more about being potentially unknowingly contagious and around at-risk people where it wearing one could save someone from getting sick or killed.   Who knows, maybe a mask doesn't help at all but it certainly can't make matters worse.

In pre-covid times, people who coughed into their sleeve or hand at least weren't looked at as weak.  People who washed their hands weren't looked at as weak.  Now it seems some people choose not to wear one for their own self-image, not how it could potentially protect other people especially when it can potentially be spread just by talking to someone.

Crazy times...

I agree with the need to wear masks, and don't quite understand why it became quite a debate, out in the real world. I am someone who is 50% deaf and depend on lip-reading in order to have a conversation face to face. It sure has created some problems for me out and about, but you know we're humans who have adapted to things many times over history. I just take out a little notepad and pen!

My sons do not have to wear the masks at all on public transport as they're both are under 11(UK Law). But they both decided they would. Cause they get it, they could pass on to me or someone else vulnerable. When I see children like them 'understand it all' better than some adults do... it really does give me hope that the future is brighter! These days that we're in are all temporary. I believe that eventually, our scientists will come up with a jab. Then the argument will shift from masking up or not, by going full circle back to those against immunisations!

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

I mean, the logic behind a mask is really simple. My dentist wears a mask because he does not want to spit in my mouth or vice versa, while doing his job.

Second, just see how people act, forget that it is COVID-19, just see how they cough, sneeze and all the other things, they literally open their mouth as much as possible. Look how they yawn, you can see inside of their body.

Third, it has been proven that masks actually reduce the chance of getting anything, average O2 atoms or whatever is way smaller than viruses, bacteria's that can infect us etc. People won't wear a mask, but they will wear a condom and have sex with someone who has STD or AIDS, because they are protected.

At some point, it is not "mind your own" or "mind my own" because then it can be used for everything, the same logic.

Not to mention, I am not wearing a mask to protect myself, but to protect my old neighbor, to protect my grandparents or ill parents. This is not "mind your own" anymore as death will not choose who goes next based on that.

There are numerous texts, written by psychologist, how we are becoming individual and how we do not care about community, only our needs and we hide that behind whatever, politics, faith, amendments or whatever.

I'm always bullshitting with the people that work at the 7/11 down the road, and have heard quite a few stories about people not taking Covid seriously..

One example, some dude walking around the store coughing on everything, exclaiming that he had Covid... that's just sickening.

Luanne

I think something got lost in translation, It sickens me how these things get politicised but thanks for clearing that up and my apologies for any misguided insinutation

This year has shown us our flaws, and some of our strong suits. Social media is not helping this situation as it is a perfect place for stress and anxiety to manifest....so in short I'd say, spend some less time online and more focused on how we can get out of this rut and move one to better, healthier things.

The situation with covid-19 is definitely unprecedented for all of us.
Whether we agree or not, the facts speak for themselves. Mostly vulnerable groups of our population, people we love, are most affected. Can we play with their health? Definitely no.
It takes patience and prudence to get out of this unpleasant and perhaps useful experience.

I lost my job due to Covid-19. I can't see my mom because she lives in a care facility. So i just have to deal with seeing her through a window.
