Feature-length or series is fair game...

I'm an addict with these, and have seen a ton.  Hopefully I will find some I haven't seen here and can potentially get some new people into the genre.

Here's some must-see's in my opinion but also probably some of the most well-known (in no particular order)...

-- Making a Murderer

-- The Jinx

-- The Staircase

You should check out project Odessa on Netflix. 

Its 1.5 hour, but its insane. 

About a Russian guy and a friend in America selling cars/planes to the cartel and then trying to broker a deal to sell them a submarine so they can smuggle drugs into the states.

I assume that you've watched A&E's shows, but if you haven't, there are a ton. My favorites:

Live PD is good, but watching an entire 3-hour show is boring and there are tons of commercials. I find Live PD Presents: PD Cam much better. It's like 25 minutes, and it shows Police bodycam footage of incidents from shoplifts to shootings.

The First 48 is also very good. It's an hour long and follows detectives as they solve a murder.

A&E also has some prison shows that I find interesting:

60 Days In follows six or seven volunteers who enter jail for 2 months undercover. They try to find out about gangs and drugs inside, as well as corruption among the guards.

Behind Bars: Rookie Season follows new correctional officers, so it is kind of the other side of 60 Days In. Very good.

I actually just started watching The Jinx and it is pretty good the guy seems incredibly off. Another good one I started is 'I'll Be Gone In The Dark' it's about the original night stalker!

I watched a bit of 60 days in and Behind Bars. I liked them both but I always watch that kind of stuff so im needing something new.

The First 48 is a great show.  I think they are in the 19th or 20th season now.   Takes you from the crime scene to capture in most cases.  I have been a fan since it started.  

I have one that does not involve violent crime but I think it still counts. I like a doc called Inside Job. It rips apart the financial fraud committed by the big banks and lenders that led to the financial collapse in 2008. BE careful watching it though because it will piss you off to no end. 

Richard kulksi interview with a mafia hitman or the ice man chronicles it is super chilling 

I also really enjoyed the one about Richard gacy the clown killer for the life of me I can not remember what it was called but he was such a strange man

Yea I've seen the Iceman chronicles.....interesting stuff.    The Ted Bundy tapes is another good one that I feel is sort of along the same lines as that one.

My recommendation is more of a podcast but it’s still true crime, it’s called “Anything Goes with James English”. The man is brilliant at interviewed ex criminals like Paul Ferris, Darren Gee etc and it lets you hear their side of the story which can be very eye opening.

First 48th is one i love to watch

Can I recommend the show "True Crime"? I think it's really well done and its loosely based on some very real crimes. Of course, the actors and actresses really help the show get along. Matt Mcconahey for example does a great job. 

Not on Netflix, but on Youtube -- there's this channel called JCS Criminal Psychology. They break down footage of actual interrogations and analyze the tactics used by law enforcement to coax a confession out of the suspect, with some commentary on the suspect's body language and verbal + non-verbal tones. I especially liked the episode about Casey Anthony, it's all sorts of fucked up. Best part is -- no ads!

I have to go back to the previous post about the Iceman chronicles. Such an interesting and disturbing series. I'll never forget watching it and being completely creeped out by the fact he'd describe in gory detail how he killed all these people, but actually cried when he mentioned disappointing and hurting his family when they found out. The level of sociopathic disconnect and enjoyment from killing was completely erased with a moment of true emotion. I'll never forget that. 

Forensic Files is pretty good.. I like Criminal Minds as well but thats not about real stuff. just based on some true stories and what not.
