I am curious if anyone here is interested in and actively 3D printing.

I have Prusa knock-off, Monoprice Select at home. (~$300)

I picked it up about three years ago and, at the time, figured it wasn't a huge investment; if I didn't enjoy it, I wasn't in for a lot of money. I'll tell you; it's so much fun! The first thing I printed was a little elephant that came preloaded on the machine, it's in a place of honor with my other creations, lol. In terms of creations, thingiverse.com is an excellent resource for pre-made models, but there are also free resources like tinkercad.com when you can quickly design your models. Overall, I've used my printer mostly to fab up low poly art that I usually give away to people that visit the house and some useful things like mask straps (COVID) and Apple Watch charging stands. 

I managed to get my company to invest in an Ultimaker for making models, fixtures, and machine components. 

I am very interested in tissue engineering / regenerative, at some point, I'd love to get my hands on a bioprinter.

Anyways - Anyone else print?

I'm interested in trying it out before investing in one as right now I wouldn't know what to print with it, but I'm sure there are tons of awesome things that could be printed though.

I currently have a Anycubic Photon 3D printer. It is a resin printer which uses ultraviolet light source to cure liquid UV resin into a solid instead of using heated plastic in layers. The quality of the prints are amazing. Out of the box prints have little to no visible layers and the strength of the plastics is surprising. The build size isn't that big 4.52″x2.56″x6.1″ but since the layers are seamless you can cut your prints and glue them to with little to no noticeable seams. thingiverse.com is a great site you can also find some amazing quality busts, cosplay, and fan art at myminifactory.com I've printed so many things from there I don't know what to do with them all. Let me know if you see anything on myminifactory.com you would like me to print I'd be glad to mail you a print so you can see the quality of a resin printer.

I was always wondering, it is possible to buy a 3D printer and print out 3D printers?

Jokes aside I never did print but I would really like to have/try one, but I am not sure how much space does it take and I am not sure if a flat/apartment is the best place for such thing.

I have been quite keen on 3d printing, I have seen a friends and at first thought it's just a gimmick but when he started printing replacement parts for technology that was outdated and hard to source parts it seemed this is the future, one day every house should have one 

I'm with Eazy here. I use to think it was a super niche, rich person hobby and it was just something people had if they had too much money. I've seen the practical uses of 3D printers printing machine parts, for example.

I could definitely see within the next 50-60 years, technology dependent of course, that they could be much more widespread and easily accessible by anyone. Right now, they're much easier to get your hands on, but still a little more expensive.

I've never used one by the way, never even see one in person, but they look pretty cool on youtube. If I had the space/time/money, I'd love to get one just to do stupid shit with it haha. Maybe in the future.

How much needs to be spent to get a decent quality printer? I think that there must be a big difference in the quality for the Amazon ones to professional. I wanted to make warhammer figures

I would like to see more 3D printing of medical devices and things of that nature. I feel like that would be neat 

Glenmir, I work for a larger medical device manufacturer, there is a lot of interest and activity in this area. Check out Oxford Performance Materials, I've been following them for awhile they're actual 3D printing orthopedic implants.

I love the idea of creating food with 3D printers.  I remember listening to it years ago as a concept.  I wonder if it's something that could ease the burden on resources on the planet.  Who knows!

I do fancy getting myself a printer though.  I spent some time at an engineering "workshop" in China where it was literally just an emptied out back room of a house where they had some expensive machinery and  a 3D printer to help make the things they needed.  Was pretty impressive!

Thanks thadon. The printer I have is super simple and is also closed off which was one of the reasons I purchased it cause I have a very curious cat and hot moving objects + cat = bad

What I looked of was price, then checked reviews for print quality/issues, and then checked the max print size. Between youtube and amazon you can pretty much find the right one for you. 

One of my old roommates had a 3D printer. I couldn’t tell you the model or anything these days, but we used it to print a lot of things for cosplays for Comic Con. He printed me a Professor Pyg mask and a butcher knife for cosplay. It was pretty neat, and rather cheap. 

Yeah Biscuit it's cool how much you can do with a 3D printer when it comes to props and cosplay. myminifactory.com has tons of cosplay stuff but I have to stay away from there or Ill never stop printing. Just went there and saw like 5 things I would want to print. lol
