| This is something ny better half has been wanting to get for awhile. I havent done much research, but if anyone could recommend some pointers and good brands I'm all ears. | |

| I've never seen a 3D printer in action but it's always interested me. I wanted a stand printing for my desk, basically a bigger version of a phone/tablet stand from IKEA with a cut out at the back so it fit snug around my monitor stand... I got a quote... It was more expensive than my desk and monitor put together so I gave it a miss! | |

| I read an article where a group of researchers have found a way to trap carbon and turn it into calcium carbonate then 3D print coral skeletons using it for the algae to recolonise. It’s a really underused technique. | |

I've been looking into these myself, I think they look awesome,but I think I'd struggle to get to grips with some of the prints, also when you download them I believe some people charge you for the blue prints |

Buy one really good 3D printer, print parts for other 3D printers, return the original printer and get a refund! |

I'd be interested in 3D printing, but I don't think I have the skill to do something myself. It would be handy to repair things that need replacements for little things that broke, if the material is good for it. |

At its most basic, 3D printing is a manufacturing process in which material is laid down, layer by layer, to form a three-dimensional object. (This is deemed an additive process because the object is built from scratch, as opposed to subtractive processes in which material is cut, drilled, milled, or machined off.) Although 3D printers employ a variety of materials (such as plastic or metal) and techniques (see "How Does 3D Printing Work?" below), they share the ability to turn digital files containing three-dimensional data—whether created on a computer-aided design (CAD) or computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) program, or from a 3D scanner—into physical objects. |
