When is Roman going to die? Started by: Franko on Jun 02, '11 19:29

Mrs-Doubtfire, i had never heared that, but makes a worrying trend when the next group of even 3/4 level bg's start shooting first.  I will be honest though, i have never found the same excitement org had on here i guess will always be part of my problem.  The hard part is always calculating ria's, mia's, npm's etc against bg's to keep whack and bg's in balance

Report Post Tip

Beach bum lots of people have been tilting at that particular wheel for a long time, it's never gonna happen.

"Romans song will end when he knocks 4 times!"

haha Dr.Who jk.

Idk but Roman is an awesome old man =] look fwd to a long run in Ch with you Godfather. And IP man is will beat chuck norris (he is bruce lees master now bow your head ahaha)

Report Post Tip

Mrs.Doubtfire, question for you.

Let's say X has the best gun, which allows the max bgs to be 500.  So Player A has 500 bgs, and X dies....then what happens?  No one can kill player A anymore with 500 bgs.

Report Post Tip

Also I do agree with BeachBum, in .org you could wake up any day and be dead.  But for some of us it is no longer true.  It creates more excitement and unpredictability in the game.  Eg.  a random MadeMan rogue with jailbreak answers who never really trained his gun could hit a Don.  I'm not saying it should be that ridiculous again but yeah....

But then again, Roman and others have built their empire and to be able to finance the amount of BGS they have, I'm sure is not an easy task either.  So I guess it's not too bad of a balance.

Report Post Tip

AS if you limited everyone to 250 BG's.. then once your gun skill is above the ability to 250 BG's able to kill then.. it would be a waste of you having 250 BG's because someone can just shoot through them. Hence why I am sure the limit depends on how strong the strongest gun is currently alive.

This statement is a reflection as to the shift in attitude on the game here.

Once upon a time, nobody knew who could kill anyone else and nobody knew for certain they could survive a shot from anyone else. 10 BGs was the maximum you could have and after that you had to bulk up with a solid crew and rely upon how well you could play the game. That was the fundamental difference between then and now. People have replaced intelligent gameplay, clever politicking and subtle manouvrings with money. Money to purchase MIAs to build a big gun and money to purchase lots and lots of bodyguards.

I wish with all my heart we could return to a point in time where no player knew in black and white their chances of success or failure would be, but clarification from an admin of the BG to kill ratio has pretty much destroyed that all together. Still, it would greatly amuse me to see some people on here try to translate their gameplay into a system that didn't cater to the minority placing themself out of harm's reach through external forces. It would be extremely entertaining watching them be eaten alive by actual players.

Chuckle,

I agree with you, but the game needs a way of balancing what you call intellgience and also be able to finance the server etc....

So it's unfortunate but not much we can do about it!

There are plenty of other methods that do not disrupt gameplay as significantly as this does.

The original plan was never to compromise the nature of the game itself or to allow money to give anyone an advantage over anybody else, which I feel is no longer the case.

However, as there is no way that any of this is going to change, I don't really know why I'm wasting words on it.

Well I think it's always a good thing to understand, because I'm sure the admins have profoundly thought about this.  And in my opinion game play hasn't been affected much.  Back in the day in .org there were SO many players, so u always had inactives lying arond to train your gun(as ooposed to spawning MIA's).  Jail was frequent because there were so many players and a lot of them were bad at jailbreaking (as opposed to cracking down jails).  You can't really buy bodyguards with credits, but I guess in theory you could hoard a bunch of credits and then sell them in the credit market place, but unless your filthy rich I don't think people would be spending THAT much money on this game.

Report Post Tip

Okay, I'll be honest, and start with I didn't read many of the replies to this thread.  Not am I actively aware of what goes on in this game.  But, I've played games for long enough to know that if an admin also intentionally has a playable character that runs the site, the game loses it's appeal. I think its a shame when that happens, as its an admin knowingly and willingly shooting their game in the metaphorical foot.

That said, if there's nobody who can take him out now that he's taken out all of his competition, then that's just a bummer.  It'll be a long, drawn out end, where people get so bored with the game that they forget to log in, and slowly all the characters go IA and die, aside from Roman.  At wich point, he will be the undisputed winner of mafiafreturns.com. But, as an admin of this game, the player behind Roman knows full well that's what eventually will happen, because warring is fun, and making warring a suicide mission takes all the fun out of this game.

Report Post Tip

Wow that is a load of BS SugarMagnolia

there's nobody who can take him out now that he's taken out all of his competition

First off competition is far from removed if you think it is then you are completely wrong.  Competition is never removed no matter how hard you try.

The admins put in just as much work into there characters as any-other some probably way more then others because they love the game. There is no button that they just press and poof there IMMORTALS! I've seen many of them die just like everyone else. People are complaining that roman is a tyrant and oh because he is an admin then he most be cheating and blah blah blah and most of this is sparking up about roman because he has been around a remarkably long time. and because he is an admin omg he is cheating, no. these admins know what they are doing and take pride in their work something allot of people need to learn not just in this game but in life also. It just goes to show that when you put in allot of effort in your work there are some serious haters in the world who hate because they are not as good at something then someone else it is truly pathetic.

And to the topic that no one can take roman out and blah blah blah if you stop hating so much in these forums and do something constructive you might go surprisingly further. Grow a pair of nuts and try.

With all this in mind instead of being negative maybe you should study roman and find what it is he dose right that apparently so many are not and try to better yourselves.

Context is everything, Gallifrey, and for that matter anybody else who may have misinterpreted that post I made with my previous character.  There was an "if" in front of that quote you took from my post and went off on. Which, in my educated opinion, changes the context of that statement quite a lot.  Take the "if"'s out of my post, and I'll agree it'd make me sound like an arrogant, self-righteous brat who was talking smack about somebody she knows nothing about just because she's too lazy to try harder than him.  Leave them in, and read that post as it was intended to be read, with all its words and whatnot, and it goes back to being a theoretical statement.

So, basically, the point that I was most likely trying to get across in that post (but thanks for clarifying how people managed to so grossly misinterpret my words, I really do appreciate that assistance; I was rather confused) was that IF all the rumors and smack-talk was true, which I am neither saying nor implying it is, but IF it were, then those rumors, which I am not implying are true, would for all intents and purposes also imply that the admin who helped build this game from the ground up are suck colossal idiots that they are intentionally sabotaging the game, knowing full-well the consequences of such an action.

The bit that was intended to be inferred from that was: the players who have dedicated their time to build powerful characters WHILE also working super hard with the building, and administrating of this game from the ground up have likely devoted way too much of their lives to this game to plot, plan, work towards, or in any other way shape or form encourage the demise of this fine game.

Obviously I worded my post poorly, and grossly overestimated some peoples' intelligence, concerning both their ability to read, and comprehend.  I sincerely regret that, and any feelings that were hurt because of it.

That said, it is FASCINATING that SugarMagnolia had to die over an OOC post.  On several levels.

Report Post Tip

Let that be a lesson learned, SugarMags.  Never overestimate the intelligence of the MR user base.

Report Post Tip

Imagine trying to rob a corner store with 411 BGs surrounding you... I don't think you could take a piss let alone get on a airplane.

Report Post Tip

Actually SugerMags, not that fascinating.  OOC is still game related.  In fact, if anyone were to go to the Outside forum or they found something elsewhere on the internet that was related to in-game activities, it can be cause to act in game (IE finding some wierd useless underground's secret website or something).

Also, bullshit on your intent.  What matters is how you are interpreted.  Saying (essentially) "Too long, didn't read, but I know that when admins have characters it ruins games" is not going to be interpreted as theoretical.

Report Post Tip

*I* am sure the admins would never cheat or not play by the rules of the game that they set out.

That being said, my life experience in the busineess world, who happens to be much longer than most of you, tells me that its never what it IS, but rather its far more about what it APPEARS to be.

Bearing that in mind, I would never play a game I admin, b/c I feel it would directly impact the profitablity and overall players base that I wish to grow.

I can't believe that this thread has gained this many posts when it was a rediculous, one line, attention seeking thread..
Everyone will eventually die on this game because no one is invincible..
How and when they die is a different story..

But asking "When is Roman going to die?"
Straight up.. pointless question..

Because no one knows..
The more likely thing to take Roman from us is WackBack which recently took one of our beloved..
So it does happen.. More often than you realise..

I think i can safely say though that Roman will be around for a while to come yet..
A great city needs a great Godfather and at the moment, that's exactly what we have so i don't think that anyone has any need or reason to want Roman gone..

Enjoy reading through 56 posts to a pointless question..

Threads evolve.

The "pointless question" became a discussion about several different things.

If you had read through the previous 55 posts, you would have noticed that.

Report Post Tip

Lets just say that i had read all other 55 posts
As i did
But chose to stick to the original topic and voice my opinion on what the thread was originally about..
Then where would we be..
I realise that the thread turned into how money means more than intelligence, how Romans invincible and all this..
But i chose to voice my opinion and my view of things which i personally don't think is a crime..

It's not that i didn't read the 55 other posts, it's that i chose not to acknowlege them..
