Henry Cooper almost beat Ali, so what chance in hell would he have had against Tyson. Might hate the fella but he was a formidable boxer.

And Buster Douglas DID beat Tyson. Who? That's right. To answer the question, I think it could go either way depending on who was having a better night and in better shape. I think Ali fought against tougher opponents in his day and his accomplishments in the ring will likely never be surpassed, but Tyson was also an amazing fighter and with Tyson, he only needs to land one punch.
If I had to place a bet, I would say Mike Tyson before age 21, Ali at any other point in either of their careers. |

I think that Sugar Ray Robinson, Rocky Marciano and Joe Louis would kick both of their asses. |

Ali was a master for sure to stay at the top of his game for so long however, his power was no match for Tyson`s. Ali`s ability to spoil and tire his opponent on the ropes wouldn`t have worked with Tyson. I`ve seen many boxers at heavyweight level with the power to smash through any defence but none to match the brutal energy at which Tyson was able to come up through their guard and land that devastating uppercut.
In their prime I`d give it two/ three rounds at best. A complete incompatibility of styles would have resulted in power over guile. Tyson having no neck whatsoever did help however when being bludgeoned around the head for no apparent reason. |
