Obviously we, us football fans know that Sir Alex Ferguson is one of, if not the most decorated manager in football of all time.  That chewing gum addict has been at Manchester United for some twenty five years now and counting.  He boasts a staggering 19 English league titles and much more trophies.  This year he has pulled on up on the mighty Liverpool by winning one more league title than them.  See Liverpool have still got one up on Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United, Liverpool have won more Champions League/European Cup which ever you want to call it than them.  I personally do not think he is going to retire anytime soon.  I think he wants to win another Champions League before he retires (This would take him up to three).

In recent years there have been alot of Managers rising and comming through as high profile managers.  Therefore my point being these managers coming through, people like Harry Rednapp, Roy Hodgson, Jose Mourinho, Rafal Benitez Lenardo etc etc have been linked with taking Sir Alex's role if he did decide to retire.

So my question here for you today is - If Sir Alex was to retire, who do you think would be best suited for the job and who do you think would actually get the job and why?

Like I said I cant see him retiring, but if the rumours are true I could see either Jose Mourinho, the special one getting it or maybe even a fresh managerial role for David Beckham could come from nowhere...

I forgot about Steve Bruce.  Another United legand, I have not seen him linked though, but it is possible.

I see them getting Moyes when Fergie finally retires but Bruce, or even Hughes would be fantastic cos they'd ruin them, awful managers

Well one can dream. It's a tough one to call really, I can't see 'The Special One' at old trafford even with all the hype about him making a return to England. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I only went for him because he is good at his job, and he says he wants a return to England.  I can't see him at Mancherster city or even Chelsea again.  Arsenal couldn't afford him and Liverpool have King Kenny.  That only leaves Manchester United as the remaining big club.

Well I think Jose Mourinho would do great on that position, he is realy good.

I think so also, but I'd hate it.  I hope when Ferguson leaves they fail big time.  I think if he did go to Manchester United, he would bring alot of big named players to the premier League, which I would like to see, but not in a Manchester United shirt.

I'd like to see Andre Villas-Boas manage Manchester United but I think it's unlikely.

Mourinho wants the United job, he has made that clear in the past, but he is not the best candidate. To manage  United, you need to have the Manchester United mindset, you have to respect the history and the stature of the club. We do not want mercenaries, who come in a do a job short term. Mourinho's teams play a certain way which is not the United way. He is a great manager but is not the best choice. United do not want someone who joins for 2 years and then leaves, also Mourinho's transfer policies goes against everything United stands for a football club. 

As for the suggestion earlier about a fresh managerial role for David Beckham ..... He has no managerial experience, he has no coaching experience. At the last World Cup, rather than staying home and letting the team get on with it, he believed that it would be a lot more beneficial if he sat on the bench, taking up space with his ego. The man is self-absorbed, self-indulged and overrated. He was an average footballer who has played in some great sides. Manchester United moved on from David Beckham the day Sir Alex kicked a boot at his head (although, there are rumors going around that it was actually Roy Keane's fist that did the damage) and later booted it out of Old Trafford. 

As for who to replace Sir Alex? There are not truly outstanding candidates around right now which is worrying. There are plenty of excellent managers but none who are really suited for United. In terms of their mindset, someone like David Moyes must be mentioned but he has not got the top level European experience. Guardiola has been mentioned but is he capable of actually building a team, his achievements at Barcelona have been fantastic but could he drag a team kicking and screaming to the league title or European cup final? I am not so sure. 

It is one of the biggest jobs in football and whoever succeeds Sir Alex is going to face a huge task. 

JKL, I know David Beckham has not managed before, what Ii meant by 'fresh managerial post' was a fresh start in different type of role for him.  I hear all the time David Moyes is up there, but personally I dont rate him, he has done nothing at Everton.

Well, he's kept them a top half team which with the squad, finances and board that he has, isn't half bad to be fair.

I suppose so, but around five years ago I remember Everton breathing down the neck of forth place.  He has let them go a bit in recent years.   Though that Fellani guy is good I think, also gary Cahill.

I don't really think you can rest the blame squarly on Moyes for them slumping down a few places, the resurgence of Tottenham and Citeh haven't really done Everton any favours.

If he get's a bit more money and holds onto some of the key players that are looking toward the door I think they might be in with a shout again for fourth.

I hope not, will make it harder for Liverpool as much as I hate to admit it ^.^

Moyes has done an excellent job at Everton, even though they get off to a sluggish start each season which costs them too many points. He has had hardly any money to spend (except for the Fellani transfer). 

No role for Beckham at Manchester United, the guy has absolutely nothing to offer the club as a coach.
