Oh, yeah, there might have been others, but Robin Williams is the first I thought. Not like I was a super fan of him (I am but not particularly), but I always thought about him as an happy and solar person, and it really touched and saddened me how it ended.

I think the main and possible only one that stands out for me is Chris Cornell.

I was so pleased to see he was getting back into the swing of things and gigging again when he sadly passed away. His voice was amazing, I love Soundgarden and Audioslave and have listened to them regularly for many years. When I was younger, he was one of the "musical heroes" of mine. So seeing him die was the first time that something like that's ever happened to me. I mean I also love Bowie, Lemmy and Prince - but Chris Cornell was particularly difficult to take.

You'll get this, maybe not many here will... but Gord Downey hit me harder than most celebrities. Probably because he was just such a quintessential Canadian, and I was always so proud to have him as our kind of secret gem. Was extremely fortunate to make it to a show at his farewell tour. Absolutely the most memorable show I've ever seen <3

The first one I remember happening would be the late, great Ayrton Senna at Imola in 1994 when he was leading the race.

tebo, from some point of view you're right, often we put celebrities on pedestals, but also if you don't, you can still be touched by the passing away of some of them. If you have a sympathy for someone and follow them, whether they are in sports or they actors or so, even if you don't consider them close to deities, you can feel about them like you know them personally and are like friends.

I would not necessarily consider him a celebrity, more so a Internet personality. He was a twitch streamer who took his own life named Reckful

Gen X lost a bunch:  Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, Sting, George Michaels, Tom Petty to name a few

Michael Jackson impacted me the most, growing up I was the only girl that could moonwalk and breakdance, it freaked out the adults.  Bonus! :D    

I couldn't even fucking deal with Chris Cornell passing away.  I still haven't processed it. It isn't even real to me yet. I was such a huge Soundgarden fan back in the day.  Another one is Marilyn Monroe. Although way before my time, and I've never been a fan of her movies or fame, just knowing how tragic her life was and how it ended is incredibly sad and depressing.

Let's not forget it happening to Fabrice Muamba aswell.  Dead for 78 minutes.....made it through though.

Celebrities passing away has never really affected me at all. However when The Duke of Edinburgh recently passed I felt a deep sense of loss as if it was an actual family member.

I'm not a Royalist by a long shot but the way his passing saddened me has really surprised me as my other half will confirm, I don't have a heart, I have a swinging brick when it comes to things like this. I can't explain it.

It would probably have to be Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan from Avenged Sevenfold. Back when I was a teenager, plenty of moons ago, he was the biggest reason I started learning to play the drums. I’ve now been playing for 16 years, and I still think back to him when I do.
