Day Watch Started by: Marty on Nov 01, '11 17:35

Marty was guarding the warehouse for today... One of the more monotonous tasks of being a non-made man. He was clutching his trenchcoat tight as the cold autumn winds picked up. Foliage and trash was swept around, as Marty's ears and nose are beginning to glow red from the cold. The warehouse held small things for the family, a few firearms, a stash of small time street drugs. A load of furniture as a front. Occasionally people he knew walked by, but in this neighborhood, either you had a mugger or a bum. Some bums were good, and as soon as the mugger saw Marty's .38 he ran. At the moment a bum was walking up.

Howdy sherr. Ken ya shpare a dolla?

Get the hell out of here.

Don't talk to meeee like that! I fought in ther war!

So did I. Want to make another excuse?

Fuck you!

The old bum flicks Marty off and spits on his shoe.

You fucked up bad now, you sorry son of a bitch.

Within five seconds, Marty has the bum, barring his right arm behind him and puching his face into the fence.

Leave now, or else you'll make your last mistake.

Marty lets go of the bum and the bum walks away/ Marty leans back on the fence and continues his guard duties. He looked to his left and saw another person approaching, but he seemed too well dressed to be a bum, or a mugger.....

Winter had come fast and announced to the rest of the world that it was here to stay for a long time. With his coat buttoned up to the top and and his new suede soes gently stepping on the ever-growing puddles of murky water. Sal, noticed a man. A man with a long, but dirty beard. A man, with nothing but ripped shorts and a stained t-shirt and watched him hobble over to a set of bins with a bloody nose. Sal, shakes his head as he sees Marty standing tall and proud in the distance not too far away. He goes into his pocket and takes out a couple hundred dollar bills. The old man, looks at Sal with child-like eyes on his knees and hands clasped together. He hands all of it to the man and says..

Here, take it all. That's atleast 1100 dollars. Get yourself some warm clothes and save the rest of the money for food. Now scram, I don't wanna see you in these parts again. D'you understand?

The man nods his head rigourously and begins to run but turns around.

Thank you so much my dear sir. No-one has been this nice to me since my family passed away. I might not be able to do much in my old age but I owe you.

Don't mention it.. Now scram before I get Marty over there to deal with you again.

Sal, turns around and begins walking to Marty over in the warehouse.

Report Post Tip

Marty saw the figure turn to the man, and they talked. Somehow it seemed that the beating sobered him up and he straightened his step. Marty recognized the man, but was too lazy to yell and couldn't abandon his post, unless it showed to be important. But with this weather, even if it involved just going to the diner, he'd probably go. It was cold, and he was bored.

Report Post Tip

When Sal eventually got over to Marty he greeted him with a hard slap on the face and a knee in the groin.

Why the fuck do you always think you can pick on people that are weaker than you, huh? That's atleast the gazillionth time you've done that. And i've told you again and again and again to stop. But you don't do you? The boss ain't happy wit' you and you need to step your game up.

Sal, took out his gun from his holster and pointed it at Marty's head.

When the boss ain't happy I ain't happy.

Report Post Tip

Marty held his grin with one hand, and with the other hand, he covered his head from the barrel.

Trust me, if you lost a grand for every bum on that comes up to you on this shift, you'll soon take their place in the poor houses and bread lines, unless they just use it to go get some booze or something. Why the fuck wouldn't ya be happy? They ain't touching your stuff in that warehouse. Jesus Christ. The way you act it's like I slapped your mudda. Well, there's gotta be a reason you're out in this slum... With all due respect, what is it?

Report Post Tip

Salvatore took out the clip to show Marty there were no bullets, whilst holding the bullets in the other hand.

Did you really think i'd put a gun to you with live bullets in there. Matter of fact did you even see me take it out, haha. Anyways, i've got a big job i've gotta be gettin' up to. Gotta deal with a loooot of money. Atropos, sent me here to make sure you weren't slacking off. But obviously, I can see that your doin' well. Keep it up, you might just get made soon.

Report Post Tip

Marty grins at Sal's comment.

Hopefully. My mother is pissed though. She doesn't realize that I was born like this. I'm suppposed to be like this. But what's that deal about?

Report Post Tip

Sal shakes his head, wagging his finger and says. I'm afraid I can't tell you that. It's made+ only. But you'll get there soon enough, one day. Well maybe not so legendary as me. But you know.

Report Post Tip

Yeah, that ain't narcissistic or anythin'. So, now what? We leaving? Or are we going to sit here and listen to you preach about yourself?

Report Post Tip

Salvatore, looks at Marty with a keen eye. He remembers his father. A bold, proud man who gained a lot of respect from his family for his bravery and it looks like his son, Marty, was following in the same foot-steps. But what Marty doesn't realise is that Sal was asked to look after Marty. To keep him safe and where he was going now, was nothing but safe.

I'm afraid I can't do that, man. And aren't you supposed to be lookin' after this place. What do you think boss would say if he found out that I took you and you got killed whilst you were supposed to be guarding this shithole?

Report Post Tip

And if i don't die, this place probably won't get broken into, and we can get a bunch of profit.

Report Post Tip

Sal, takes a deep breath and exhales a breath of water vapour now known as steam. He put his hands on his hips and shakes his head.

No. No. I can't. It's too risky. It's like a million in one chance that you could come back alive. I mean, you can't even handle your gun right. You can't drive. And don't even bother arguing about that one. Remember last time when you were driving me to the hospital for the bullet wounds. I managed to break my ribs and get a concussion just from driving.

Report Post Tip

Marty laughs. Watching the condensation leave his mouth.

I was twelve at the time you bastard, and you had a gun to my head telling me to 'drive faster you little brat! Get me and your dad to the hospital!' Real fine driving, wasn't it.

Report Post Tip

That's not an excuse, haha. You know what.. nevermind. It's not like your coming and that's that.

Salvatore, turns around and hugs his coat as the cold began to seep through the thin layer. He walked round to his car and got into the passenger seat when...

Report Post Tip

Marty looked at Sal walk away, then he looked at the warehouse. He checked the lock, and then chased  Sal down the road. He caught up with him and he jerked open the passenger door to get in, to see Sal sitting in the passenger seat.

Were you expecting a driver?

Report Post Tip

Marty sighs and gets into the drivers seat. He starts the car and looks at Sal.

Okay, what's the job?

Report Post Tip

Salvatore looks at the driver in the seat. Rubs his eyes snd checks again. Didn't he tell this kid to fuck off. Sal, decided to let him join him for a bit not that he was going to come on the job.

You know what Marty, I like you. No homo obviously and i'd chop off your balls, roast 'em and feed 'em to the pigeons if you ever thought anything of the such. Now, the Job.. You wanna know what's up.. I can't tell you anything yet... Yet.. I want you to prove yourself, drive to Boulevard avenue. You've got 4 minutes. 3 minutes 59..58..57

Report Post Tip

Marty sardonically sighs at Sal and looks at him.

You're counting fast old man, and no need. If there's anything I learned from you it's how to drive.

Marty floors the pedal to a staggering 55 miles per hour. Within two minutes, the car is parked in front of a bar on the corner of Boulevard and Main.

Report Post Tip

Salvatore puts a cigarette to his mouth and nods his head in a slow intellectual manner.

Looks like you've improved on your driving a lot better. Don't worry about the police when your with me. Their on their local payroll. Now, I didn't come here for no reason. Come outside the car and go into the bar. I've got a surprise for you.

Salvatore was about to open his door when Marty jogs to the other side of the car and opens it for him. Sal, was beginning to like this kid a lot better and if he keeps up those little cheeky things he'd make it big in this game. And big I mean it.

Report Post Tip

Marty gritted his teeth as he opened the door. He hated being a kiss ass, but he loved climbing the food chain.

Alright.

He walks away from the car into the seedy looking establishment. He walks into the entrance before entering the main room to wait for Sal.
