Do the way your parents disciplined you worked Started by: FreddyFastFinger on Nov 04, '23 04:16
I believe my parents instilled in me respect for other people's properties and sometimes my ass needed a little correcting.
I believe what I got was well deserved nothing more nothing less.

I fully agree that sometimes they just need an ass kicking to teach them a lesson.

I never had any of my own, so I usually have to go to out and find them in the wild. Any tips?

Report Post Tip

It depends. If you deserve it then yeah. However, when parents are creating excuses to punish you know. Nor is making fun of your childs interests as way to make them lose interest. They just learn to hide everything.

I was in orphanage until I was 14 and my foster family did everything they could I currently work at Walmart with my dad who is the manager and he helps me continue to grow and I may be in leadership one day

Report Post Tip

I am sorry he is not my real dad he is my foster dad I don't want any confusion

Like FreddyFastFingers I also think the way my parents disciplined me was done to instill right from wrong and teach me respect of life, my own and others property, and to try and understand others.  They did alot of correctioning conditioning with the belt.   95% of the time they were correct I was guilty but that other 5% was something else.  Mom mad at dad and because I looked like him i got got over small shit or dad mad at mom and married her because she was having me type shit again I did something but not belt worthy.  Overall my family is very close and I love my mom and miss my father who passed 13 years ago.

My parents were not in the “gentle parenting” era, but they were kind, loving, and strict when the time called for it. Me and my siblings were spanked, but there was a point that wasn’t enough. We had our noses in the corner with timers. When that wasn’t enough or we were just utter shitheads we would have our arms up.

Yes. If I misbehaved as a child, my parents would deliver me to strangers doorsteps in a wicker basket. They would ring the doorbell and quickly drive away. After the 5th or 6th time I managed to be returned home, I think they came to terms with my misbehavior and would instead put me in my crate if I overstepped.

I’m too old to remember how I was raised, but I had a very mischievous child, so I tried to give him away six times by placing him on a stranger’s doorstep in a wicker basket. This tactic proved ineffective, as the child was returned each time. Finally, his whore of a mother and I just gave up and started keeping him in a crate except for on his birthday, when he would get to shower and eat human food.

I spent the entire year looking forward to waking up to the sweet smell of that small plate of cracked saltines with a lit candle mushed into the middle that my parents would cook up for me on birthday mornings. I would pretend to be asleep when they came to open up the latch on the crate's wire door, but I was so excited I wouldn't have slept a wink the night before. I was normally in charge of my own water sources but on birthdays I would get to open my mouth and stare right up into the showerhead, like a king.

Even though I do not agree with everything they did, I really believe they did what they thought was the best. I did get slapped here and there, sometimes for no actual reason, but I think a lot of people forget, you have to discipline your kids. You can talk, you can explain, elaborate, expand but you also have to slap sometimes.

I heard so many people say "I would never-ever-never under any condition slap my kind" sure mate, good luck. Btw, one slap is not == beating, one spank is not domestic abuse and there are plenty of reasons to get slapped.

And I am not talkin 1-2 year old baby, but already formed personality that can understand right and wrong.

"Do not swear at your teacher!" No, you won't listen. Sure, no phone for a week. Oh, you did not listen again? SLAP!

My parents weren't really around, so there wasn't much discipline.  I grew up pretty quickly, did what I wanted at a young age.  Probably got in trouble a fair amount, but overall I think I turned out okay.

It’s hard to say as we are invariably judges of ourselves. I think the main thing for me was consistency. It didn’t matter so much if the rules were sensible of stupid, the fact that the boundaries were always the same, meant I always knew where I stood. I think that contributed to stability.

Report Post Tip

No, it didn't work at all. I'm still a horrible twat and nobody likes me.

Report Post Tip

Only joking! It must have worked because everyone loves each of my personalities in different and intriguing ways. That last one was the one that tells the jokes. HAHAHAHAHA.

Report Post Tip

Interesting question. Yes, I believe the way they "disciplined" me worked. I was the child of a Baby Boomer mother and a Silent Generation father, so a spanking was definitely on the table if the situation warranted. Then again, I learned really quickly how to behave correctly so as not to get spanked.

It wasn't the disciplining that messed me up.

No, that was the conservative Christian, preacher's daughter upbringing in the deep South, small town US and expectation to be perfect in front of everyone all the time. Oh, and how maintaining that appearance and putting the "ministry" in front of the mental and emotional needs of their kid was priority. That's what did it.

Spanking wasn't shit.

Report Post Tip

Absolutely it helped. I remember when I was a kid and I was doing stuff I shouldn't be doing, my dad made me hold large cans of vegetables above my head in the corner and I was told I could stop when he was tired... Needless to say he didn't get tired and I learned my lesson...

Tbh I m not sure, maybe dad was to strict I think that was mistake, but maybe mom was to good,so I m not sure about that eather, but when you take both of them together that was good
Report Post Tip

In many ways, yes.

But in other ways, there has been some.. permanent damage. It made me who I am, which I am thankful for, but there is still a deep sadness, maybe anger that I have not yet found the strength to reconcile.

Report Post Tip

I feel a strong resentment towards my dad about how he treated me, physically and emotionally. But there's another part of me that's sort of grateful, because it taught me to be brave. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
