yeah a good old ass whooping works well into turning you into a adult and learning respect for other people. We need to bring that shit back... |

| I believe I saw two different styles of parenting as I grew up. 3 if you include the time that my aunt was babysitting while my single mom worked. However, my single father was strict but loving. Supporting us to play sports but never forcing his wants onto his children lives. He set logic rules and when broke logic punishments. But my mother was more of a push over with no real rule set outlined and random fits of anger when things didn’t work out for her with some man. | |

I feel like I was disciplined a good bit but I wasn’t the most well behaved of children. Very happy with how I’ve turned out now because of it though. |

eh, i am getting a bit older and the tactics used to discipline kids today are a lot different than 30 years ago. I didn't have a cell phone, laptop or ipad that could be taken away. i think i got my first cell phone in 2003(?) so i was already 13 years old. My parents did do the "time out" thing when i was a kid and if i was really being an asshole, they would take the cord for my playstation or n64.
outside of that, i turned out fine and almost with i can go back to a time where time out meant that you weren't surrounded by a plethora of connected devices. it was simplicity at its finest. |

Largely, yes. My mother always held good boundaries as far as ensuring my sister and I did behaved in public, got punished if we did something stupid, sometimes whipped, as we got older grounded. She always enforced showing up to school, doing the best we could on our work, etc. It really helped me later on life as I navigated some murky waters based on my own personal choices. I had that foundation to fall back on.
Now, I'm a 36 year old teacher/professor. The students I have in public school are 70% raised the wrong way with no respect, no decorum, and no empathy. I sound like the old man screaming to get off my law, but this covid generation is the future and it isn't bright. I blame the parents mostly. |

I mean... it worked. It just took about 10 years into adulthood to understand why, how, and what it meant. After 7 kids of my own and 4 grandkids so far, I'd say the way my parents did things was the best they could in the best way they knew how. |

my parents threw me into a well and lowered a basket of bread and water into it every 3 days, it was a hard time but I came out of it as, if not more, well adjusted as a normal person |
