Jack stood on the bluffs looking out at the morning light dancing across the waves as they rolled toward the shore. The pacific breeze was warm and welcoming. The cold Atlantic winds back east were not something he'd miss. He heard soft footsteps and turned to see ScreamingButterfly smiling at him.

"Everything is ready Jack. Its time to go."

He stepped back from the edge of the cliff and headed towards the long dark car idling at the kerb. They both climbed into the back and sat deep in the plush leather upholstery as the car wound its way along the coastal road back to the city.

It had been a long road for Jack. Many years since his arrival through immigration and that horrible processing. Lining up with everyone like cattle, being poked and prodded by the doctor before he put an ink mark on your chest and threw that burning de-lice powder in your eyes. Jesus what a start in the land of freedom. But how things had changed.

Meeting Monet that day as he tried to pick his pocket in Chicago. He'd taken him in, taken time to guide and develop him into the criminal monster he had become. Those years were as good as they were hard. He'd never missed a job, never said no to extra work, never took time out to enjoy the high life. Always plotting the next score, always looking for another angle, a new racket or another way to extort from the susceptible. Jack had been as single minded as it is possible to be and it was inevitable that one day he'd get the call.

He'd helped Monet to build a powerful crime family under Godfather JesseJames. They had blossomed into one of Chicago's most promising families and it was no surprise that when crisis hit and war broke out, Monet looked to Jack to set up on his own and go bold in the city's time of need. Without hesitation he had accepted and never looked back. When the war had subsided JesseJames sent Clarity to New York to establish a new beginning there. She asked Jack if he would accompany her and they went about their work laying the foundations for New York's new future.

Day by day they worked tirelessly until they had boxed-off the five boroughs and established total control of the city. As the city expanded and Clarity authed new leaders to control the districts, other, wider goals came into view. It was time to expand. It was time for Jack to fulfil his potential. Clarity had returned from a meeting of the Godfather council and brought with her the news that Jack was to take his own city.

New York had a lot of trade with west coast importers and needed a stronger foothold from which to establish a more reliable base of operations. Jack had been given the green light to move and had wasted no time in sending people ahead to find appropriate headquarters and a number of warehouses on the docks and at the airport. The main offices had all been refurbished and all the local law enforcement agencies had been met face-to-face and met request-to-pocket.

As the car pulled up outside the main building, a collection of mobsters and associated criminals had gathered. The large sign above the building read

Jack waited for Scream to adjust her dress before they both got out and met the applauding crowd. Jack walked up the steps and turned to face the gathering.

Ladies and Gentlemen.

My thanks to you for being here today to join us in our celebration. For today we embark on a new beginning. As of today our family will live and operate in this fine city of Los Angeles. All imports and exports, all local businesses, all trading of chemical and organic products will be controlled and distributed through our networks. This city is ours!

A ripple of applause and approving voices ran round the group. Jack nodded to a couple of men standing inside. They promptly came out laden with crates of Champaign and began handing out bottles. People began shaking the bottles and corks began popping. Jack looked over at tnaryT and spread his arms to call for quiet in the crowd.

My friends, this is not all the news today. Oh no. With this great move comes an even greater amount of work and much needed room for expansion. With a family so full as our own I have little option but to enlist some help in controlling this great city. We need room to breathe, to expand and to build. With this view I am making my first auth in Los Angeles.

Turning he embraced tnaryT and stood before him, hands on shoulders.

TnaryT my friend. Our bloodlines have been walked side by side before you and I were even alive. As I ventured out into this life you were there beside me and as I have grown strong in this thing of ours, so you have been at my side every step of the way. Your loyalty and dedication are without measure and your trust from me is without reserve. When I knew I had to make a Leader to help me mould my streets, your name was the immediate choice.

Kissing tnaryT on both cheeks, Jack turned back to face the crowd.

Ladies and Gentlemen I would like to present to you tnaryT! The first of my appointed leaders in Los Angeles!'

The crowed ripped up in applause once more and everyone raised a bubbling glass to tnaryT and Jack as they stood beside each other. Jack raised his hands.

Now. Everyone. The bar inside is open. I'd like to mark this momentous occasion with a party to remember! The cops will not be bothering us as the chief is already inside and smashed! So let loose folks. Lets bring in this new town in style!

Raising his glass to the crowd, he sauntered down the steps and began exchanging celebrations with everyone.

The crowd gathering in the streets immediately attracts the man from The Big Easy and he listens quietly in the background with an ever increasing grin on his face.

Having nearly tripped over on something looking suspiciously like a soap box Santino stamps on its remains and filters back into the crowd.

Clarity walked over and gave both Jack and ScreamingButterfly a big hug. She smiled at them with their new surroundings while the sun shined down upon them.

"I will miss you dearly by my side in the great city of New York, but I know you are only just a call away if I was to ever want to see your smiling faces."

"You have all worked so hard with me in New York and helped me make this city into what it is today. I owe you more than just a thank you, but those are the only words that best describe my gratitude."

"I know you will do great and prosper. Yet, should you ever need any help I am right around the corner, just a few thousand miles away..."

Clarity coughed a bit before smiling again.

"Congratulations, my friends. You'll turn Hollywood into the star it once was."

Mr. Pepper sir, it has been a pleasure working for you as I am sure it will be working beside you. Thank you for this glorious opportunity to to run a family in this great city of L.A. I also want to say congratulations on your new position as city head. I am sure under your leadership we will see L.A. become a power house in which this city has yet to see the likes of.

Jack Pepper, I'm new to these shores but my father told me a lot about you mainly that you was a lovable son of a gun that was always destined for the top. On his behalf I'd like to extend blessings and from me even more.

Xiphos had awoken in the morning, and took a gander at his bed partner. He wracked his memory for the name of this woman, but for the life of him, he couldn't remember. He shrugged, and headed for the shower. Today was a big day, and he was ready, despite the throbbing headache, repercussions from the alcohol of last night. As he stepped out of the shower, he walked over to his suit case and got the clothes he had brought for the occasion. He noticed the lovely young lady he had woken next to was gone, which was for the best, he didn't like thoughts of entanglement.

Hours later he stood with the rest of the mafia community, waiting for the arrival of one, Mr. Jack Pepper. After a while, Jack was ending his speech to the mass. Xiphos felt it appropriate to speak.

Jack, what can I say? It's been a fun ride. We met in Chicago when we were both rather young in the community, but our fathers have known each other for a while. I couldn't express my joy when I saw you go bold all that time ago. It seems like a different life. We've both changed a bit in that time, but it has been for the better of both of us. You've always been there to help when Clarity and I needed it. From my time as her Right Hand, to when I took over the family, you were there. You helped us lay the foundations of a great city, and your contributions will never be forgotten.

I'll keep this short, as I'm sure others would like to speak. I just wanted to say that it has been an honor to work with you in New York, and despite your base of operations being across the country now, you will always be family. I wish you the best of luck in Los Angeles, and you know where to find me if you ever need anything.

tnaryT, I can also see why Jack has put his faith in you. You've worked hard for the whole of New York, and have been rewarded with your time to shine in Los Angeles. Congratulations to both of you, I wish you all the best. Same goes for you, if you need anything, my office is always open.

What a great day this has been. Congratulations Jack, I know we may have not got to know each other as well as I would have liked, but we still have time. I know I am not the best of speakers but I just had to make it vocal how happy and excited I am. Congrats to you too tnaryT our families bloodline have gone back so far it has been lost to history. I am proud and honored to be here with you in the great city of LA. I guess that's it for now and back to the bottle I go.
