| Mass Walkout | Started by: AKA on Jun 13, '25 16:23 |
|
When: Friday, June 20 – Sunday, June 22
This is a peaceful protest, no wars, no OOC attacks, no drama. Just unity through absence. But that’s not all. We want to make the 72 hours count. I’m asking for ideas, input, and collaboration on what we can do during the walkout to:
Whether it’s setting up off-site events, coordinating quiet sit-ins, launching side-projects, or documenting the weekend, I want to hear from you. Drop your ideas below. Start planning. Let’s make this more than silence — let’s make it meaningful. To current players: Ask yourself if you’re playing a game or maintaining someone else’s legacy. To ex-players: This is your chance to make a return that matters. Log in. Walk out. To everyone else: Speak up. Walk out. Let’s take back the game, even just for one weekend. |

I understand that some of you are quietly building for something bigger, maybe working on a gun, maybe biding your time to bring change your own way. If that's you, I hold no ill will. We're all trying to move the game forward in the ways we believe in. If you're aiming to shake things up from the inside, I respect that. Also, I haven't named every leader in this conversation and that's not personal, it's just honest... I don’t know where many of you stand or what you represent and maybe that's part of the problem. A lack of identity, presence, and storytelling from those in charge says a lot about the state of leadership right now. If you feel unseen, step up. Say something. Show something. Be more than a seat at the top. This is about change, in whatever form it takes. We don't all have to agree, but we do have to care. |

I will be here on the Friday as it is my birthday. You are all welcome to send me gifts and then leave so all the free lounge perks can be mine. I'm fine with that. |

The stark reality is Catherine, this might be the last birthday you get to have here if things don’t change. I’d very much like you to have many more happy returns, why not make this one count by doing something special. |

Legacy? The only legacy here is the memory of players that have passed away. The button clicking that occurs while you’re here isn’t memorable in any way, shape, or form. |

It's Fathers Day weekend, so I'm going to enjoy some time lounging around festivities and playing some MR when I get downtime. Enjoy your weekend anyway you wish. I've always gotten support where needed from the leadership and have gotten to talk to a lot of them on the personal level and have not had a negative experience. I enjoy talking to players whether about the game or about everyday things IRL. Players are welcome to do any action they wish, but there will still be a sizable amount players still going about their IRL and MR days.
By the way, happy early birthday Catherine! |

I've made this thread recently on activity and the game. I think it's very relevant. I blame most of it on a lack of new features, activity, RP being less of a focus, gameplay loop getting stale, etc. Riina/others in IRC were talking about how it gets stale after x amount of time at the top too, but there's no structural way to stop that from happening (outside of some squishy/izzy intervention) |

| Due to real life circumstances I haven't been anywhere near as active as I'd like to be recently. Can we reschedule this for a later date? Otherwise people will think I'm just having a normal weekend. | |

holyairball, I've probably bored people with this a few times, but I do think there are too many crews / districts. We either need to significantly reduce districts, or rethink ow crews are done (e.g. the main district is the only true crewleader, the others are just Capos helping to manage Gangsters through Wiseguys). This would create more competition for spaces, at least. A more recent thought is - I really think the gamification of IRC hinders the forums. If you're not there, you're out of the loop. I love IRC and the sense of community it brings, but I wish we'd flip things to reward meaningful Streets and Business Thread interactions and let IRC simply be the people behind the characters communicating naturally. It feels like IRC is the game at times. |

Firstly, I appreciate the fact that you are trying to do something. But I can't see what it will or can achieve.
Leaving the family will lead to their death. If that's your goal, sure. Your solution to "game is dead" is "Go inactive".
Most crews have 0 tax anyway. I don't see it affecting anyone but the individual themselves.
IDK what that is, so I can't comment on that.
Make up your mind, is it a walkout or a sit in.
hmm. Again, make up your mind.
While I do appreciate you trying to come up with ways, I don't think you have thought this one through. Or maybe it's some genius move which I can't understand. Anyway, you're still doing better than many who do nothing. |

Ruff First and foremost, I have decades of raw data to confirm this definitely isn’t genius. I’m going to level with you, I rushed this, the whole thing, I did it on emotion, frustration. This OOC post, I thought about this the last second I was about to post in the streets, I thought I’d need something OOC for those who’ve lost the ability to post IC (in character) so I cobbled together my thoughts that resemble a bag of cats. I tried to offer out too many options to entice the community into finding a connection with my thoughts on the matter, I feel like the sentiment is on point but the options are all over the place, I thought about this today, I knew it needed clarification, still struggling to do it because I’m not looking to tell people what to do, I’m looking to inspire people to want to do something. This part I want to be unequivocal about though, don’t avoid being here, at no point is any of this to hurt the site itself, that’s the last thing I want to do, especially in the long term. I’ve had multiple people come to me and say the admin are trapped in a financial bind of needing the current crop due to credit purchases and part of me now feels guilty about potentially disrupting the flow but I also don’t think when the site was taken out of the hands of Mario et al that the current ownership ever thought they’d be in this position. I don’t want inactivity, I want participation. I do want you to leave your family, love ‘em or hate ‘em I need you to take a leap of faith for 72 hours. Return to your position on Monday morning, I doubt they can kill everyone in this period. I just need them to feel it, to know that it’s possible to move the needle. Or do nothing, the 20th comes around and we do what we do every other weekend, nothing changes and we slide into obscurity, on the Monday, I won’t hold it against you but be damn sure I won’t stand up for you again. Please consider taking a stand, not for me, for the site itself. |

People have been saying Uppers aren't active, now you are saying not only shall I stop being active, rather also leave my family. I'd have taken the leap of faith had you showed me you know what you're doing. If you can't tell me that then I can't take that leap. I doubt anyone can.
I can assure you we can if we want to.
Nothing is being done for any individual. I am not doing anything for you personally, nor anyone involved in the walkout will be doing it for anyone except for the collective good of the game. Honestly the more you speak the less I am inclined towards your idea. It displays immaturity, impulsiveness and a bit childish. While I am all for childish behavior in #main and otherwise, this is a serious issue we are facing.
I just want to clarify one thing though, I am very new here and in no way involved with any of the two groups out here (the ruling and exiled group). So I am not sure what things are being planned by either side to rectify and improve the current state of affairs. But since I've enjoyed this game a lot and I very much like being here, I am hoping that both the parties are planning things to improve the situation.
I as an individual am doing my part. You may agree with it or not that's up to you. My role in here is to keep my family together, not leave it for some protest where even you yourself don't know what it will achieve. |

I want to make a few things clear, so there’s no misunderstanding. First off, I’m not here to hold anyone’s hand, I’m not the messiah, and I don’t claim to have every answer as I've explained to TomJoad in the Streets. This isn’t about me, and it’s definitely not about you vs. me. It’s about the game. The state it’s in. And the simple fact that a lot of people, quietly or otherwise aren’t happy with how it’s going. You aren’t wrong to ask questions but if the requirement for action is a complete 10 point plan, nothing ever changes. Sometimes it starts with someone being willing to disrupt the rhythm, even imperfectly, in this case it’s me taking a swing. You say you’re doing your part by keeping your family together but you’re standing still while the game erodes around you. As for the comment about killing everyone if needed, that’s incredibly telling. It confirms more than I ever could about how threatened some feel by even the idea of people stepping out of line. It says enough on its own. The truth is, you were never going to be part of the solution, not because you disagreed, but because you were never open to it. That’s fine. This isn’t for everyone. But don’t dress that up as maturity or strategic leadership. You’ve made your choice. Keep selling those credits though and contributing absolutely fuck all to the content of the game. Streets/Business district Threads / Posts: 0 / 0, 106 day old RHM. Good job. |

Telling. Yep it tells everyone that there are rules and leaving a family has consequences. It even shows a popup when you try to leave. Something like, "Your family may hunt you". It's not about being threatened, it's about following the rules.
I didn't know you can read minds. While I love the fact that some people wanna keep this place alive and are trying to work towards it. I hate that they do portray themselves to be some kind of messiah who are here to save this game and everyone else who doesn't agree to their specific way is killing the game. If I were never open to it, i'd not have bothered coming out here. Just like I've not bothered before, like you very much pointed out in your post. By the way, the reason I don't come out here any more is exactly this. Disagree with someone and they start bitching and cursing. I am not a fan of being cursed at. You bunch need to let go of the attitude of "My way or the highway" maybe then some progress can be made. Maybe try making friends with the current regime. Anything is better than calling for open boycott and then pretending you care.
Yes I've chosen to stay true to my family. Such a horrible man I am for doing that. tsk tsk tsk
Oh you have a problem with me selling credits? Why didn't you say so. I am here to serve you, I shall take down my post immediately. Heck I'll even buy back all the credits I've ever sold. Ask your lot of people to do the same too. And since as always is the case with threads and posts on MR, Since I've not agreed with what you want, you've started personal attacks. So I'll leave it to that. Good luck with the boycott. |

Nothing I’ve said is untrue. Nothing I’ve said can’t be verified with a few simple clicks. The current state of leadership, inactivity, legacy stagnation, it’s all visible. I’m not spinning conspiracy, I’m pointing at patterns. You don’t have to like my conclusions but you don’t get to pretend they’re baseless. As for the “rules” and “your family may hunt you” yes, we’re all familiar with the mechanic. The issue isn’t the mechanic. The issue is how quickly that tool is weaponised to shut down dissent. You said the quiet part out loud: that leaving comes with violence, not conversation. I admit I could’ve been more direct earlier when you tried the “I’m new here” line. The truth is, you’re not. You’re a 100+ day-old RHM with zero contribution to the Streets or Business District. That doesn’t make you the villain on its own it just makes your position clearer. You chose loyalty to the structure as it is. And that’s your choice but you don’t get to act like you’re just some neutral passerby caught in the crossfire. I also have no issue with you selling credits but I’m suggesting you’re leaching off the eco system of the game and offering little to nothing in return. Against the rules? No. Lacking in moral fibre? Immensely. I’m here to challenge a system that clearly isn’t working for many. You don’t have to like how I’m doing it. But don’t pretend you were ever open to the idea when your responses have been layered from the get go. |

Walkout from what exactly? If you have been looking around this place the past month the game has already walked out. The game is dying and if you want a walkout for change then let it keep dying until changes are made that bring back whatever motivation it is that had you playing to begin with. |

AKA aka A_K_A, one thing I disagree on is the notion that leaving SHOULD come with conversation rather than death. I'm glad this is in OOC as (i) I'm on mobile and will forgive my own typos more; (ii) it's easier to explain. This game is a mafia roleplay game. Now, roleplay is definitely lacking a lot of the time, but leaving your family is an immediate death sentence per that role. I think a lot of people lose track of what they're actually annoyed at. Mafia heads are supposed to be paranoid, ruthless.. they don't owe their underlings an explanation, and public disrespect should be a death sentence. The gripe people have that sometimes gets lost in their demands for leaders to offer up explanations is a lack of turnover in leadership (and losing hope in there being any turnover in the future), I believe. People want change, but they're seeing the same thing, and are losing track of what their gripe actually is. |

I think the players know why they’re angry Ennis. It’s the leadership and essential cogs in this regime’s machinery - like yourself - that don’t get it. Just to be clear though, we understand paranoia. We understand eliminating threats. But we also understand this is a game. We understand that it needs a player base. We understand that repeatedly nerfing the site in order to gank a few players that are vastly superior is destructive and unsustainable. We tried to game our way out, but that’s simply not possible against a drone army of plastic P2W gangsters. Given the choice between trying to fix the mess that your lot have made or abandoning ship, most have just given up and moved on to somewhere they can have an enjoyable gaming experience. |
