| Suggestion Re: -48, War | Started by: JohnGalt on Apr 03, '12 15:59 |

Basically, I think everyone agrees that the -48 rule is a "good for the userbase" rule. I don't propose ending it or anything like that. However, I think most would also agree that sheltering yourself under a -48 in a time of war only to quickly slide into a crew and pro-wack someone is pretty much taking advantage of a rule that's not designed to be used that way. And it hurts the site when innocent people get caught up in the crossfire. I would propose two changes that, I would hope, should curtail this problem without detrimentally affecting new players too much: |

Seems a plausible solution. |

I might also suggest that a -48 just joining a crew have a minimum time, perhaps an hour, until they can be given auth to shoot. |

I agree with the second point, dont think you should get -48 tag back if you have been dropped from a family or if you leave on your on account. |

I think once you're in a crime family you are no longer innocent and should lose the tag. Well Done, JohnGalt. |

It sort of begs the question, do we even need -48 tags any more? From what I understand anyone under the age of 48 hours receives a defence boost unless they have committed an "attack" crime, (at least this is what it used to be). Is there really any need to have a visual indication that they are indeed under 48 hours old?
I firmly beleive that this 48 hour rule should be put back in the hands of the users. It has been a long time since it was introduced and the userbase is a lot bigger now and the majority (- a few obvious ones, cough Clipper cough) of users will not willingly shoot an under 48 hour old player for no reason at all. With the introduction of MIA, RIA and NPC there is plenty of kills to go around and they kind of negate the need to shoot an unsponsored gangster when they appear on the 60 second list.
The majority of users are also capable of calculating whether a user is or is not at the time limit.
So yeah, in short John, I agree, but would like to take it further and remove the admin involvement in this particular rule. I think the families these days do a pretty good job of enforcing a fair set of rules and a level playing field for all new users.
With regards to the points you raised, I don't feel that you should be restricted to getting a gun while in a family, there are those of us that sign up to attempt to settle scores with a good old bit of random action, and this would remove that ability.
Second point seems reaonable though, if you join a family, you have signed up to a life of crime and if we are being realistic, you can no longer be considered innocent.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE - HELL YEAH. |

Zim the rule is enforce by the admins because of the fact that if its not hitters would have to kill unsponsored -48 to stay competative. If one person is doing it because they can they gain a advangtage that all would have to do. It would be like the demotion option, most people don't like it but they do it because if they don't they can't buy as many BGs as everyone else has. |

I agree with #2, strongly disagree with #1. |

I agree with both of these, it will remove any excuse for shooting -48s, and it removes some of the anonymity from the just joined pro-wackers. If you can't handle being shot a second time in a war you are still participating in, then maybe you need to rethink your decision to play. |

Part 2 yes if someone has left by choice, if my boss died 10 mins after i joined maybe to a ca shooting back i would maybe be miffed at losing my -48 .tag and being open to being shot(but is the chances we take)
I also believe the -48 should be kept in place as a tag on the innocents(yeah i know is a mobster game) as we all know people shoot them anyway sometimes even with the tag, is like a warning sign. |

Not sure I agree with point 1, I no the reasoning behind this is to stop pro wacking 24 hours after a war starts which is sure annoying but not impossible to overcome. |

There is nothing wrong with having pro wackers who have legitimately returned, pettied for a gun and prolong a war, so I'm against #1 and would like to see that dismissed from the overall suggestion if it was sponsored sufficiently. |

I think point 1 was made just so a user couldn't join a family, and shoot straight away. They'd have a minimum time of 16 minutes in a family (to complete the 5 petties) before they could then get a gun and shoot. Point 2, there's really no argument against it in my eyes. |
