The neon over the door hummed low, amber and green spilling onto the cracked pavement. Inside, the lanes smelled of wax, spilled rye, and a hundred half-forgotten songs rattling out the jukebox. TheDude shuffled up to the counter in his cardigan, thermos in hand, house slippers squeaking on the wood floor. “Alright, cats ‘n kittens… gather ‘round. Don’t worry, won’t take long. You’re lookin’ at the future of sportin’ glory right here in Old City District. Forget the gloves, forget the ring, this is all about strikes, spares, and keepin’ it outta the gutter.” He pats the bar, then points to a hand-painted poster tacked to the wall.
TheDude takes a sip from his thermos, a little milk froth clinging to his mustache. “So yeah, man… if you think your family’s got what it takes to roll heavy, knock some pins, and claim the glory, step on up. Don’t matter if you’re slick in silk or broke in corduroy, long as you can handle a ball and keep your cool when the lights are on.” He shrugs, leaning back against the counter. “Sign-ups are open now. Minimum buy-in gets ya on the lane. If you’re feelin’ lucky, talk to me directly, and we’ll get your team registered. No funny business, just bowling, bourbon, and braggin’ rights. East against West, family against family. May the best damn rollers win.” The jukebox kicks over to Creedence. TheDude raises his glass. “Let’s roll.” |

Alright, dig it, cats. When it comes to the lanes, we ain’t just lookin’ at the scorecard, ya know? Team names, the get-ups, the whole vibe—uniforms, flair, and style—it all gets factored in. Originality? That’s cool, man. Might just give ya a smidge of an edge. Nothin’ wild, we’re talkin’ like a 0.05% bump, just enough to make things interesting. Oh, and hey—props where props are due: Dean-Winchester already kicked into the prize pot and squared up for his crew. Respect that. |

Meltdown damn near has a meltdown when she hears a bowling tournament is coming to our country. Her memory may be shite but one damn thing for sure is she can roll and strike. Pen in hand she searches high and low for paper to jot down the entry information to forward to Father_OMalley. And in case he is out doing whatever he does to or with bears a copy will go to his top man Illuminatiated. |

Ian's days as a boxer had been limited to but a glorious few - turns out he was more of a lover than a fighter, and according to the women he'd been with, that wasn't saying much. He had been looking for an extracurricular activity to kill some time in recent days and when Meltdown's letter landed on the desk of Father_OMalley, Ian knew that this was it. Absolutely brilliant concept The_Dude - The Church Of Guinness, Secret Society of Super Villains and The Concrete Syndicate will all be entering (hopefully with better team names) and have been paid for. Additionally... Ian slides @The_Dude an envelope. There's a little extra for the total prize-pool, courtesty of Chicago! |

The neon sign above the bar hummed lazy, green and amber glow spilling onto the counter. TheDude was leaned back in his cardigan, slippers propped on a stool, thermos within arm’s reach. He cracked a grin when the letter came through, eyes scanning the names like a man who’d just been handed the keys to a brand-new bowling alley. “Meltdown nearly meltin’ down over pins and lanes… now that’s the kinda passion the world needs more of, man. Bears, paper chasin’, memory lapses, hell, sounds like she’s already halfway in character for this tournament.” He gave the envelope from Illuminatiated a lazy shake, like it was a Christmas present he already knew the contents of. “And Ian, brother… boxer or lover, don’t matter. What matters is ya found the lane, man. The Church of Guinness, Secret Society of Super Villains, Concrete Syndicate, now those sound like squads that know how to roll heavy. Just don’t let the names fool ya, right? Sometimes the gutter saints surprise ya.” TheDude tucked the envelope into the pocket of his sagging cardigan, giving a two-finger salute toward Chicago. Now LA & Chicago fully pledged. “Prize pot just got fatter, courtesy of the Windy City. Much obliged. East versus West’s lookin’ juicier by the day. Let’s keep the balls rollin’, folks. Sign-ups open, vibes flowin’. We’re all just tryin’ to avoid the gutter, yeah?” He took a sip from his thermos, moustache frothing, and let Creedence roll from the jukebox. |

Team signed, TheDude. We’re stepping into the lanes under the glorious banner of: P.U.R.G.E. (Pins Unlucky, Rolled Gutters Everywhere) Roster: Me - no introduction needed. Julietta-Megani – purges pins more often than DarwinRoss purges his crew members. FatTony – knocks pins back the same way he does balut. JudgeRoyBean – sentences strikes for fun, even if his suit looks shite. Natasha – Great set of balls. You’ll see them rolling down the lane. As for the rest of you, cute names. But while you’re polishing halos, stroking egos, and pretending you’re hard, we’ll be purging pins. I’m also adding 10m to the prize fund and a Quads for the highest individual score. Unless it’s Matt, he can fuck off empty-handed. See you on the wood. Oh and before I forget, big thanks to Bathsheba for sponsoring our uniforms. |

Natasha was doing her collections from her local pond scum in Detroit, when she heard she was being signed up for a bowling event. While she hadn't bowled since she came from Mother Russia, she knew she'd win. Her Boss, TonyTheTailor, also had mentioned her great set of balls. Everyone will see them coming. Comrades, like my Boss said, cute names. Get ready for the pins to drop. |

Bowling? Is that a contact sport? Is it even a sport? Hm. Ordinarily we like to engage in physical pursuits in Detroit, boxing, cage fighting, street fighting, fighting, respectful bleeds on the brain from overzealous mugging - that type of thing. The "no funny business" part sounds a little suspect if there won't be any violence whatsoever. However, looking at the gang of dweebs TonyTheTailor has submitted to represent him, I'm confident any proud Detroit son or daughter will be able to comfortably win this. We do enjoy demonstrating our superiority after all and impressive hand-eye coordination is one of our most enviable traits. So unlike a Drieza Trucking Depot Raid organized crime - we're in and will be leaving with the goods. Allow me to introduce Big Si's HeadCoach Memorial All Star Team:

SimonTheSwanHunter (Big Si), SlimRagnarok (BFF)… you two signing up is brave. Considering all of DT are cross-eyed, you’ll be lucky if the ball even goes down the right lane. Might need bumpers on both sides just to keep it out the bar. And don’t forget the custom shoes, those webbed feet of yours ain’t gonna fit into regulation bowling gear. Quack quack, boys. |

Speaking of cross-eyed... Beluga, Nike, Spicoli, Dixxon… what is Brooklyn doing? The Orphans and The Runaways acting like they’re too busy to put a team together. Every other city’s stepping up, but Brooklyn? Sitting on the curb, looking confused. Thought you lot loved a scrap, figured rolling a ball at ten pins was the closest you’d get to organised success. So where’s the pride lads? Or are you all scared? Shut up Matt. |

Speaking of looking confused… Enzo_Favara, Indifference, CartoonHead, StripheRicci, Bollix. Where’s your team hiding? Every lane filling up and not a whisper from your lot. Don’t tell me you’re too busy spoon-feeding Bollix his soup now that he’s stepped down as Godfather. Someone’s gotta burp him between frames, right? |

Ah yes bowling, a sport that mostly revolves around counting and staying indoors. Makes sense why the New York Number Crunchers were so quick to sign up. P.U.R.G.E? More like G.E.E.K.S. Can’t wait to embarrass these losers in our inevitable grand final clash. |

Del_Preston spent this morning like many other mornings. A nice warm breakfast which consisted of a cup of black coffee, two stale cigarettes and exactly one thousand brown M&Ms in a brandy glass; a little something he picked up from his touring days. While cleaning the blood off his shoes with a bit of old newspaper, Del’s attention was caught by an advertisement for a bowling tournament. “Well this certainly doesn’t seem right at all. As the official cobbler for Detroit I demand answers.” Del crushed out his breakfast cigarette, quickly got dressed and rushed to the nearest street corner to complain. Del immediately began clearing the area of any persons he deemed to be in his way, flashing a crudely drawn badge “Competition Commission.” “I couldn’t help but notice a few concerns with this ‘bowling tournament’ that needed to be addressed. Issue #1: What kind of “Invitational” doesn’t send out invites and instead asks for people to sign-up. This seems suspicious to me. Did the actual invitees decline the invitation, or perhaps there is something more sinister going on here? Issue #2: Why is Detroit on the west coast team when it is geographically more east than Chicago. Was this done intentionally to drive a nail between Chicago and the rest of their western brethren? Or even worse, an unintentional mistake, defying the Competition Commission’s rules and regulations. I think we’d all appreciate these hard-hitting questions answered. It is of the utmost importance, and any delay could result in sanctions.” |

I have been entered into this bowling competition by SimonTheSwanhunter and I know better than to refuse an order. Actually, do I? I sit here still Low Bodyguard Positive. I still have yet to sign the crew rules. I have yet to cease taking paydays.
To prove that we're all GOOD SPORTS in Detroit I wish to share an important piece of advice with all competing teams. It's called the golden rule of the bowling alley: "Never come to the balls, let the balls come to you." |

I waddle in, adjusting my suspenders with marinara still visible on his left collar. I stood in the podium and saw the group of aspiring gutter freaks
"First off TheDude thanks for the invite. You set the mood real nice. A cardigan, a thermos of milk, and a thousand year old juke box. Real menacing. Philly… Jesus, if this is what scary looks like in your city, no wonder Rocky ran up those stairs alone. Your top guy out here dressed like an accountant who doesn’t know his wife is on a first-name basis with the mailman"
I then look to the left and found gangsters from DT. I tried listening to their conversation but I heard nothing but quacks honks and more quacks. I noticed the stitching on their uniforms SwanFree Swansong...
"Real intimidating, fellas. Nothing says ruthless organized crime like naming yourselves after a bedtime lullaby for birdwatchers. You didn’t pick that name; that name picked you when you all realized you enjoy cuddling in warm feathers every night.
I then turn to them. Cracking my knuckles. After that surprisingly mid and disappointing introduction of their team, it is just proper to give them
I glared at TonyTheTailor This is what you wake me up for, T? I should be out there crushing double-patty heartburn burgers, napping in the aftermath, maybe filing a complaint to my mattress about overwork...but no! Instead, I’m here waddling like a bloated ball, watching you hit the gutters while pretending this is a sport.
I leaned on the counter, smirking. "So that’s… Detroit. Which city is next?"
And oh...hey Matt , come over here. I think you left some philly creamcheese on your lips. |

The neon over the lanes buzzed, humming low while Creedence rattled from the jukebox. TheDude was leaned back in his cardigan, slippers hanging off one foot, thermos balanced on his knee like it was a crown jewel. He listened to the squawkin’, the roastin’, the honkin’, the ghost-talkin’ then let out a wheezy chuckle. “Man, lotta static in the air tonight. FatTony cookin’ swan stew, Detroit arguin’ over who’s got the fluffiest feathers, New York out here actin’ like accountants with attitude, Chicago passin’ the collection plate, and Vegas, hell, I think they fell asleep on the slot machines. It’s like a carnival in here.” He took a sip, froth clingin’ to his moustache. “Now, as for that geography lesson Del_Preston… yeah, I heard the quacks. Detroit’s West, not East. Why? Simple, man Dean-Winchester. Guy slid the map upside down when we were settin’ the brackets. Said it made sense ‘cause he once bowled a perfect game in Purgatory or some such. East, West, Hell, don’t matter. Dean says Detroit’s West, Detroit’s West. You try arguin’ with a dude who carries salt rounds in his pocket like Tic-Tacs.” He shrugged, cardigan saggin’ off his shoulder. “But all this jawin’, all the chest-beatin’, all the ghostin’ and roastin’ it don’t change the truth. Ten pins. One ball. Wood waxed slicker than a hustler’s hair comb. The gutters don’t care if you’re the King of Swans, the Saint of Guinness, or the Tailor of Tony. When that neon kicks in and the lights hit the lane, the only thing that matters is whether your ball finds the pocket… or takes the long walk of shame to the gutter.” TheDude raised his glass, giving a lazy salute to the room. “So keep squabblin’, saints and sinners. East, West, North, South, purged or plucked, don’t matter. The lanes are waitin’, and the neon don’t lie, and with the extra prize money i've updated the things.” TheDude puts up a new poster:

This wasn’t Bobs first time setting foot in a bowling alley. He pushed open the door with his hard hat tilted low, clipboard in hand. He walks up to the bar area in attempt to find the man in charge with his crew trailing behind him. The sound of pins crashing, the sweet smell of cigarettes lingered in the air. He spots the man he is looking for sitting in a corner seat sipping on his White Russian. "Here is my 5. I would like to introduce you to..."
