Rebuild modification Started by: Squishy on Dec 14, '25 13:17

Rebuild mode is being partitioned into multiple trees of cause/effect.  Only the job coverage side of things are being altered now.

Rebuild mode caused by lack of job coverage, sponsors online, with job banks that are funded.. is being altered to only 2 stages, going live December 16th at 23:59

85-90% coverage - Auth to shoot CLs/Uppers removed.

0-85% coverage - HQ sizes permanently reduced by 1 member every 4 hours.

Other methods of rebuild will stay the same.

Let me be the first to say I like the changes. Thank you very much. Word will spread.

All this does is just further punish CL’s who can’t get the help, and casual players who don’t have the time.
This is not the way to fix the issue. It’s just driving people away.

Then allow other crews to setup and take the responsibility off of their hands. :/

Report Post Tips: 2 / Total: $40,000 Tip

Can you tell us what’s being done to bring new users to the game? If we had a big influx of new players I could understand pushing for more sponsors, but in my experience it’s basically the same people who have played the game the last decade and either come back cause friends asked them to or are starting over because they died in a war/takedown. I don’t really see the point in pushing people to make more sponsors that are available all the time when there isn’t an influx of new players

The problem is a catch 22.

People want to set up and be a crewleader, which now gives them the unique ability to control the game, this is by design.  You now have a crew with 10 or so IRL friends you talk to on the daily with 3rd party messaging services. You now end up with new members who are not part of your circle. Those new members see only 5% of the 'crew activity', because its all being held in private offsite circles with their cliques out of their reach.  They see half a day go by without a single person saying a single thing in front of them.  This person is now bored out of their mind because they are more or less just clicking buttons with no real close interaction which is what makes a family a family (not necessarily intentionally being ignored, but for all intents and purposes being left out of the loop on all the benefits of being in a crew since they are not part of that clique or part of the happenings that is your family).

I get it, many of you have been friends and parts of circles for many many years, and often 3rd party services are easier.  However, please take a moment to realize the side effect of moving all the entertainment, bonding experiences, the things that make you a cohesive family - and move that out of the reach of all new members and half of your existing ones?

Admit it or not, but crewleaders are the gatekeepers, and your decision (intentional or not) to include or exclude has consequences. It is 100% ok to have a crew of just your BFFs that you talk to offsite, since you are not neglecting your members... but at the same time gatekeeping who can set up and take in people you don't know.  It causes a huge entry barrier to anyone who is now stuck in a crew that may be great for its insiders who shoot the shit all day, but provides a really lackluster experience to anyone who wants to play but is essentially locked out.

If you want to maintain 100% control on who/what/where/when/why is allowed to be a leader, then you have to also take on the responsibility of onboarding new members and integrating them.

Something has to give :/

Report Post Tips: 3 / Total: $100,000 Tip

Can you provide stats for how many new users have been created say over the last 6

months? I can only talk from my experience so I can’t talk for everybody but at least in my experience the third party app issue you’re describing is a bit exaggerated. Yes people use WhatsApp and discord, but the crews I’ve been in still use lounge and invite new members/uppers to the third party chats so I personally have not experienced why you’re saying, but what I have experienced is that there’s no new people to make sponsorship worth it. I have sponsorship on all day when I work and I’ve probably had a handful of associates even pop up in the last couple months and at least one of those was one of spikes many characters. Maybe my experience is not indicative of the site as a whole, but I’m curious what the data says about new v. Existing users

Rico, I have the bulk of advertising off because the existing crews are not able to take in new members.  We had 33 brand new accounts made in the past 2 weeks, would it be fair to think that the bulk of people think the same way you do and assume that every one of those new 33 players is actually just a returning player?   If you guys can't handle 33, how can you handle more?  I would love nothing more than to crank up the advertising, but frankly, the leaders have yet to demonstrate they are ready and willing.

Most of us have can pinpoint the exact moment we got addicted to the game.  We can name the first person who took them under their wing and showed them the ropes. We can name the people who took the time, they will always be legends in our memories.  How many times a day do we see this happening now days?  Sure, there are a bunch of heroes that go above and beyond, but to me it sure feels like a random chance that if you sign up, that find someone who bothers to take the time.

There was 29 people who talked in their crew channel in the past 12 hours. If you had to guess how many talked about game stuff outside of the view of people not directly in their inner circle... 100? 200? 300? Right this moment, go look at your crew chat.  Scroll back. How much user-to-user communication was there?  Someone said hi 3 hours ago?  There were no replies.   People then learn to not bother saying hi.  It really sucks to feel they simply are not worth their crews time.

It takes about 25 bucks per new user to sign up and give the game a 15 minute chance.  Thats a hypothetical 495 dollars every 2 weeks, in total hope that it happens during the exact moment that a single one of the very rare unicorn combinations of 'a person trusted to be a sponsor is toggled on, active, money in the job bank... AND is currently demonstrating they are willing to engage in social things with people outside of their inner circle?

i'm not trying to be abrasive, but can we use your credit card for a week and see how many of those users end up in crews that are actively playing with their entire family as opposed to offsite with just their inner circle?

You'll now understand why what I spend on advertising is directly linked to the willingness of those at the top to provide an atmosphere where its OK for new users to be onboarded.

Thanks for the stats! Sounds like my experience isn’t exactly indicative of the site as a whole then. Just some food for thought, have you considered trying to migrate chat to something a bit more mobile friendly like discord? Probably won’t work for in game chat, but just thinking about how I do things, when I’m working during the day I’m always on MR even if my hours don’t show it cause I’m not actively clicking, but if I’m not sitting at my desk, I’m probably not on MR or IRC unless I’m popping on to take a shot or something because using MR/IRC on mobile is not user friendly. If I had to guess, many of us who use discord or WhatsApp do so because it’s easy to communicate on the go or for people who don’t have desk jobs or can’t use MR at work

Report Post Tips: 1 / Total: $20,000 Tip

What if there was more incentive to recruit brand new accounts from the players?

Spitballing ideas:

  • Youngblood protection for active, brand new accounts (X amount of time protection for brand new active accounts beyond what is in place now, 1,3,6 months?)
  • New training arena (universal lounge w/MRBot incentives for sponsors to train new recruits)
  • Mandatory timeframe for expansion of crews sitting at full without auth

I can think of pros for this, what about the cons?

I can't seem to find any way to link discord to the game without any huge privacy issues.  I really don't want to have people real lives linked to their actions here.  Users can take things waaay too personal, I've been on the receiving end of IRL consequences to unhinged users, and that's not something I really want to do. I prefer to keep game names limited to game names, or fake names - from what I can tell there is no way to fully be incog if using discord, even with altered display names.  When I first read about display names a few years ago I was hopeful that it would be more of a 'Use this name on this private MR server with no link to my real name whatsoever that users can track", but that doesn't seem to be in the cards.

Christina, outside of the benefits of growing your family, what incentives have you seen from your families for sponsors that seem to work?  Most of the families I have been in while 'feeling around' seem to pocket the taxes and stiff the sponsors of the taxes that's supposed to go to them.  I've seen a few that actually do reward, but that's been sparse.

We have to break out of the catch 22, and that can only happen with either actions of the crewleaders setting some kind of minimum standards, or me taking that responsibility away and dealing with new users on a game level in their own environment with code that negates the existing crew structures.

Report Post Tip

The taxes to me are nominal. Perhaps properties/ drug dealings can name up for that.

To me. This is about responsible recruiting and engagement. If you are an active sponsor, or mentor you build not only loyalty but community. I am thinking extended incentive to break out of the mold of outside comms and incentivize for in-game lounge activity/inclusivity to break from stagnant cliques.

A new player (not account) having extended protection would be wild. When I started as a new player I was killed within 30 days, a war or something. I had no idea what happened and almost left the game entirely. Luckily for me, I had a responsible mentor who took the time to explained things. How many current leaders currently spend the time to talk to new recruits? Maybe some new lounge expansion for incentives like Bot rewards may help?

I am trying to get dialog, not any accusations.

Sorry.. First sentence: *Make up for that.

When I log in the sponsor toggle defaults to off. I can easily forget to actively switch it back on. Would it potentially make sense for this to default to on, or for there to be a setting for players to choose whether they want it to default on/off (like we can with RAT pools or posting anon hits as default etc)?

Report Post Tip

Toggling on is part of responsible, big kid stuff. Meh

Report Post Tip

It is toggled off by default because its better for you to make the decision if you are going to be active and recruiting or not, i don't want to take away that choice and default it to be active. It it leads to an insane amount of no-contacts where you have someone waiting for contact ... to never get one because the sponsor notification lit up for user who hopped on while taking a bathroom break to check their mails for 2 secs then bounce.  They remain 'active in the system' for some time after that, jobs get done, and then the user never gets contacted.  Is there perhaps better way than to have the "Sponsor: Off" in red at the top of your screen? I'm not being sarcastic, I am legit wondering if the process is too hard that it has to be be automatically on.

Report Post Tip

Christina, one of the problems if we give extra things to new players like protection, then that invites existing users who want to 'appear 100% as new as a better form of incog' to just create a new master account.  We really can't spend a whole lot of time chasing down, and then having confrontations with users who swear they are not X Y Z, its their neighbors dog who stole their wifi or whatever lame excuse we get from dupers.  You would think that 'ya got me, sorry, ill straighten up and fly right' would work, but a scary number of people who get their hand slapped for breaking the rules just go straight into fight mode and then its 3 hours of goal post moving and arguments.  It's just not a road I want to go down and impose upon our staff to deal with.

I am not opposed to any new user perks, dont get me wrong, we just need to set them at a level where it wont aid users in appearing as a new player trying to be incog which causes a whole cascade of issues.

Report Post Tip

That's a shame Squishy. I understand your predicament though.

As i have already discussed with yourself. It takes a game mechanics shift to being members back to the forefront of the game. While accounts can self fund themselves, without their members help, then why would they need them? Make members relevant, bring back an element of skill with team work and youll get a lot further in my opinion. A target rich enviroment with near unlimited funds available does not promote growth and value of those who work for you.

For relevance to the original point. In my case and opinion the casual player does not want to be a sponsor so what are the leaders meant to do? The risk of the impact to your family of failing to fulfil your sponsorship duties is not worth the risk of turning it on. I play this game for fun in my spare time. I cannot commit hours and hours a week, which is viewed by some as 'low', of my spare time to this place anymore. Perhaps expecting 20 hours a week from people to be average might need to be reconsidered in a world that is cluttered with more choice but importantly a real world life.
