Another 48 Hours Started by: Mont on Jul 28, '08 15:53
Mont walks out of the family HQ and stops at the top of the steps to address the street

Hello my fellow mafiosa, I come to the streets today to ask the simple question.

When does under 48 hours not mean under 48 hours?

Mont notices some confused faces

Let me elaborate.

The gods have taken to tattooing people new to this thing of ours to let us all know who are the young and who aren't. We have also been gifted with a newspaper obits list with an editor who has taken it upon themselves to highlight who is innocent and who isnt. Though I think they are possibly not overly dilligent at their task since some u48s aren't highlighted.

So you may ask why the question, Im an avid follower of the obits and I have noticed a trend of people shooting before someone has reached the age of 48 hours. They are basically shooting people who are 47 hours 59 mins old.

Is this a change in policy within this thing of ours, or are CLs still enforcing the full 48 hours. If they aren't enforcing it where should the line be drawn, do we gross up the times to suit ourselves?
Report Post Tip
People who break this rule ought to be killed, period. It shows that the people breaking it can't discipline themselves to use their guns properly and ought not to be trusted with guns or their own lives. But whether the leaders decide to enforce this rule is up to them.

I think my favourite response to this question was made by Don Iris in a public get together some time ago. I am fortunate enough to have a stenograph of the conversation that was had then, which I present to you for your perusal:

There are many reasons why young blood will get shot down in their "prime" and I think Don Iris summed it up perfectly when she had the soap box on that fine day. Anything else I say would only be a rehash of everything that she has already stated on the subject.
Report Post Tip
I don't think that is Monts point.

I think his point is that people are shooting innocent gangsters one minute early. Not only does this break the crewleader (and what might aswell be a God implemented) rule but also punishes those who hold their finger back off the trigger for that extra minute and therefore showing some repect for their leader.

I don't think he is debating why they die but why people are being allowed to shoot these people early and is it acceptable..
Report Post Tip
Anyone is this family who is caught WILL die and I'd appreciate any witness statements being sent directly to me if found
Report Post Tip
That's true Bloody, but perhaps a new gangster running around, ticking one of the boxes that Don Iris highlighted for being shot is known only to a certain family as some one that has pushed the wrong buttons. In those circumstances you would rather that a piece of family business was dealt with by the family.

I am sure there are also certain people running around that can't keep it holstered, the ariel swine has just recently spoken out here here very well on a very similar subject, but there can very often be a reason for the deaths of the younger members of society.

I think Don Iris made a reat case for those reasons, and if it happens that said young gangster has over stepped a line that only family A have visibilty of, doesn't it make sense that family A want to make sure that they are the ones to ensure their honour is maintained?

Just my two cents on the subject. There is very often a reason. Very often those reasons aren't public.

I haven't looked into this in any great detail yet, I've just got in from LA, and have another long flight ahead of me - Christ, I hope I can sleep on the plane, I'm shattered.

Where was I? I had a point, I'm sure I did.

Ahh yes, the Obituary writers. Well, they're not the sharpest tool in the news room. They frequently, and I suspect deliberately, alter the exact time of death by +/- 1 minute. Now, there's three possible reasons I can see for them to do this...

1 - They really are bored.

2 - They really are that stupid.

3 - And I heard a rumour that this is the truth of the matter - the editor makes them do this. I heard he was getting heat from city hall about crank 911 calls saying "I heard a gunshot at the exact time xxxxxx died, and I am pretty sure I saw yyyyyy nearby at the time"

Well, you can see how that would be annoying, so they mix it up a little for the public's consumption. The only people to know the exact time of death are the shooter, the victim, and God.
Report Post Tip
It would be nice if when a -48 was killed, the family head/rhm/lhm who authorized it would post at the funeral why that person was killed. That would help keep the rest of us from thinking that foul unfair play was going on. But what I'm the most concerned with are those hitters that jump the gun and shoot a bit early. Why haven't we seen some shooters' names pop up red because there have been a lot of -48s in the obits.
Report Post Tip
OhCrap. Also there is always one person who sees the crime take place. This person looks at his watch instantly and also knows the exact time.

Hence how I, and Mont, know that people are shooting early.

mrstupid. As much as I agree with your point I don't think it is a issue here. Why wait until there is a chance you will not get the kills and also allow that gangster time to further infringe rules? You kill the minute you know that gangster needs to be dead.

Most gangsters die the instant they do something wrong. I believe this is just a case of people trying to gain a unfair yard on the opposition.
Report Post Tip
Well bloody I must say if you've had a witness come forward that proves people are shooting early then you should pass that information on to your family head & they should be able to deal with the matter & the person responsible should be punished as it's a slap in the face to their family head as well as the rest of our community.
Report Post Tip
I have done Cornholio and the matter was dealt with. However, I cannot catch them all :)
Report Post Tip
That is true but it's a catch 22 like with the normal killing of those under 48 and recently unsponsered due to war, the masses cry for punishment but the leaders can't punish without the proof from the masses.
Report Post Tip
It warms my heart to hear that Don Alessia. For those who wish to walk around killing innocents, well, that is just not part of our code. There is hope for us all to hear a family Don speak that way and take of such ignorance in a definitive way.

I hope the other family heads cooperate with you
Report Post Tip
My opinion (which really doesn't count for much at all) is that if the tattoo stating "-48" is still visible, you just don't shoot. That is in direct violation of the Crew Leader enforced rule, and those who are caught shooting, yes even the ones who shoot at forty-seven hours, fifty-nine minutes and fifty-nine seconds should be punished through whatever the proper channel they are to be put through.

The tattoo was put upon those people for a reason, and it is not removed until either the gangster in question has been accepted into the mob or until they have had two days sufficient time to try and figure our world out.

To those shooting early, just stop. It is a rather large slap in the face to your Boss and entire family to be doing that. If a Family Head states they are enforcing the rule, and most of them have gone on record stating they are such as Don Alessia above, then they mean it.

If the gangster was meant to be dead at forty-seven hours, fifty-nine minutes and fifty-nine seconds, then it would be called the 47:59:59 Rule. And no, not all rules are meant to be broken. We are Mafiosi, we live by a certain code. It's called honor; if you are cheating just to get that extra kill notch on your bedpost then you certainly are a man or woman without this 'honor'.
Report Post Tip
I know in this family you die if you violate the 48 hour rule.

I believe gangsters need some time to get into a family, but on the other hand if you dont put any effort into it you deserve to die unsponsord. You cant do crime on the Don's turf for too long without getting noticed ya know? So in reality you got 48 hours around these parts, but after that your risking your life doing crime in the city without being protected.

So to the new mafioso - find a family and you wont even have to worry about the 48 hour rule.
Report Post Tip
I totally agree with Marietta. It's not the less than 48 hour cheat rule, it's the 48 hour rule. So if you get trigger happy, you ought to be killed w/o any remorse regardless of rank.

It's that simple. And if the leaders aren't willing to enforce this rule, then why do we pretend to have it in the first place? We ought to just shoot anybody who turns gangster no matter what they've done.
Report Post Tip
"We ought to just shoot anybody who turns gangster no matter what they've done."

Not really. Just any Gangster who has not found a family in 24 hours.
Report Post Tip
I always believed it was 48 hours to the minute not the second & that's why the obituaries don't highlight those who die the same minute they arrived in this country.

Then again to be perfectly honest I personally don't believe the 48 rule is even needed, 24 hours is plenty of time to find a family.
Report Post Tip
This is, in part at least, caused by some ambiguity from the workings of the gods. This is not a slant on them, just a fact.

If people are shooting based on the minute, then the Gangster doesn't appear as "innocent" in the obits, yet his (-48) wrist stamp from the boat hasn't yet worn off fully either. It's this gray area that is causing issues. We need innocence (OOC: Blue Obit) and wrist stamps (OOC: -48 in profile) to expire at the same time.
Report Post Tip
True enough Caligula, but surely the the point is moot for the following reason. If a gangster is alive, one only needs to glance at his tattoo (-48) to discern it would be an illegal slaying, whereas the gangster would have to be actually dead for one to be able to judge the legality of the shot if we are going by the obits, which renders the whole exercise rather pointless.

The bottom line, for me, is that if you need bright colours to help you along the way, that if a simple mark on someone (i.e the -48) is not enough to clearly illustrate the point; then you shouldn't be a hitter as the sad fact is you lack the intelligence for it.
