Not the Way to Get into a Family. Started by: Iris on Aug 12, '08 22:29
She sits down on the stoop at the front of her warehouse and opens her flask. Looking at a letter in her hand with great disgust she takes a sip from her flask. Seeing a new face in front of her looking like he's about to ask her about a job she places the cap back on her flask and gives it a twist..

The young man speaks up with conceit in his voice.

"can i be in ur crew"

Surprised by his direct approach she replies coldly.

"I'm not recruiting right now."

Hoping the boy will take the hint and go away she turns to go inside when he yells at her.

"ok but ur really missing out on something im better than some of the cowards u have in ur family"

Alarmed by his words she turns to face the boy with a fire in her eyes...

How would you know what the people in my family are like? You don't even know them. By your reaction I am glad I am not willing to recruit you. You are not the kind of member I am looking for.

She turns this time with anger in her step but hears him say from behind.

"u know what i should have more respect for the don of the most powerful gang in this game......"

Encouraged yet not swayed by this attempt at showing some knowledge of the way things work she turns around to wish him luck.

"Yes, you should have more respect for a Don. Good luck with your life."

Hearing Flying Pig calling her name she takes one last nip from her flask and starts to climb the stairs only to be stopped by the child's voice again.

"i was not finished but i wont ur just a piece of dog doodo waiting to be stepped on ur hot headed fool as soon as i get my self build up me and u are going to war"

She hears these words and starts laughing. Ignoring the child she walks into the warehouse.

Moral of the story? If you want to get into a family, ANY family, don't act this way. We leaders talk to each other on a regular basis and work together. Chances are if one of us is treated like this the others will be notified of intended actions and no family will take you in.

I would love to know who this child is so i may laugh at him in the gutter
Report Post Tip
I do not see any problem....

you should recruit him right away!!!!!!!!!
Report Post Tip
Yeah Iris, i mean come on he's obviously just intimidated by your greatness, and had a temporary loss of mind!<3!

TM shakes his head in disgust after listening to what just happened

I couldn't agree more this is the Mafia and believe it or not you have to put some effort in your invites, I mean if you walked up to a real mob boss and said "hey can I join" he would probably laugh in your face. But insulting a CL is unacceptable in anyway some of these street punks should really show some respect to the CL’s truly disrespectful i'm sure these punks will learn the lesson eventually.

TM turns about and continues walking down the street

You could have asked for permission before posting my invitation request in the streets. I thought it was a confidential communication. I'm just saying.

She smiles at Lemon Head.

Ahh, I'm not one to kiss and tell... His identity will remain a secret unless he finds his way to our Streets and reveals himself. Something tells me that may not happen though.

Marietta pauses briefly to listen in to her Boss' speech. When the woman has finished the blonde raises an eyebrow and lets out a tiny giggle.

Wow. That kid had balls, Boss.

She titters again, chewing on her fingernails to mask her laughter.

Glad to see his mouth got him where it was taking him: nowhere with the Java Cartel. Let this be a lesson to those currently trying to find employment within the Seven Cities. Don't come on too soft, but certainly don't come on too strong to the point where you are disrespecting a well-known and beloved person in This Thing of Ours.

As an aside, read the posters outside the Headquarters before applying for a position. They're usually a good indicator about whether or not a Family is looking to hire.

I think he needs a better ego...I'd take a glove from an assistant of my family and smack him twice...But iris...I'm happy to see no violance...Thats true leadership...Unless your born to kill try roguing then...lose your life...

Monty, clearly shaken and disgusted looks at Iris in awe.

"You mean to tell me somebody addressed you this way? I've been around a while now and even I don't have the nerve to talk to any of our leaders like that, god, that's rediculous. Really though, if this kid wanted to work with you so bad wouldn't it have been simpler to put his name in the streets and get out there to be known, then maybe approach you in a more respectible manner with something of a background. I mean come on, this kid didn't offer any signs of a bloodline that would earn respect of any sort, and then demanded that you hear his request, I don't know about all that. On that note, I have developed even more respect for you for not just putting a shot between his eyes yourself this time around. At least now he'll have a chance to fix himself, or his son will learn from that fatal error no doubt eh?"

Monty looks again at Iris in disbelief and shakes his head as he walks further down the street looking to see what everybody else is doing.

TM-Scarface.

Lemon approaches Iris with the other disgusted mafioso

Fair point sir, i'm sure he will make himself known soon.

I have come across several of these "children" in my time, they really need to learn how to talk or their sneakers will be replaced by cement shoes.

Also loved the way you told this tale, really amused me.

I came to these shores from Ireland not too long ago at all and I'm now a member of Don Iris's family and that certainly wasn't the way I got in. Don's are busy people. The busiest. You've got to tell them why they should even listen to you let alone let you into their family. What makes you different from the countless other bums that line up outside of their door every single day looking for hand outs? Hopefully, this kid got a good ass kicking on his way home.

Hmm this is truly dreadful behavior coming from those new to our streets. And this is one of the many reasons i have set up the Vader House for Wayward Souls.

If you find people out there that don't know what they are doing or are acting in a manner that they shouldn't please direct them to the VHWS so that i may school them in proper behavior.

Don Iris once again you turn a dreadful situation into a lesson for those with improper attitudes. I congratulate you on that.

*Diddy listens to Iris, and laughs to him self shaking his head.*

And says to himself, That the best thing i have heard in a while.

walks off to the nearest drug dealer.

My first time into the world of the Mafioso, in the past life, under a different name and body, I once talked to a crew leader in such a way. I never got my way.

I've truly learned my lesson now. SPEAK UP, PROPERLY AND INTELLIGENTLY.
Report Post Tip
To be brutally honest, I would have probably recruited him, and changed his mindset instead of turning my back on him and disregarding him.

If he has the testicular fortitude to mail you in the first place, then persist, that's the basis for a damned good member.

Unfortunately, you both lose out of how the situation panned out. Recognise and exploit potential, every cloud has a silver lining.
Report Post Tip
Obviously, Scorch we want our family members to have "testicular fortitude" but in the ways of our rules, life and work - not in this way. I've seen invitation requests like this before and rarely have I seen the person not end up training someone's gun for continued fortitude in the wrong areas.
Report Post Tip
I have to agree with Alessia here. So many times have I given chances to these types of people, rarely do they ever prove to be more than the effort they put into their invite request.

If you want to be a member of a family, especially a Don, does it not make sense to at least read their personal information (OOC: Profile) to see if they are 1) recruiting and/or 2) have any preference to style of inviation request?

She holds out her own identification and business license.

If you cannot put effort into your introduction then I cannot put the effort into answering you. One-liners are not welcome.

I think I make it pretty clear that I do have standards. At least I did not ignore his request.

I believe in tough love, it's the one way that someone learns a lesson..
Report Post Tip
With it being obvious that Don Iris was not excepting one liners, and if it was over looked by said Mafioso, then his mistake and taken as a lesson learned. Sometimes people need to have it the hard way to learn from their mistakes, and hopefully his son will have a general idea, that maybe he should put more effort into attempting to join a Family.
