What Would You Do? Started by: Noob on Aug 17, '08 20:01
Noob walks to the streets, smoking his cigar, eager to see what people have to say for

themselves.

Recently we have had a lot of complaints? about civilians and thugs running their mouths to the

higher ranked mafioso's around this thing of ours, so I have a simple question for you all.

What do you want?

Noob takes a drag on his cigar and continues

If you could see one thing being done at the top level what you want to see? If you had a chance

to do one thing in this thing of ours that you don't think is being done at the moment, what

would you do? If you could say one thing that might effect the way we work, what would you say?

If you give a sensible answer, you never know the heads might take note....

Noob smokes his cigar and takes a pew on a bench near by

Hears the man talking and stops in his tracks. He turns to face the man

May I borrow your lighter?

Lights a rolled cigarette and slowly smokes it while he waits for people to respond

Xavior takes a second to think about the question, then stands up

I believe the leadership we have now is great, but perhaps filling in the rest of the cities would be nice. It seems like with 3 open cities, this world of ours could be much more diverse than it is now. I understand that it takes time to work out a CL auth, but perhaps they should let someone have a chance with these open cities.

After his response, he sits back down awaiting any other words of wisdom
Report Post Tip
Monty hears the conversation then looks around a bit.

"Well, filling these cities would be great, but who would do it? You? Me? Noob over here? In all reality I know that, though some may think I've earned it, I deffinently have not, and am nowhere near ready for it. So if we were to fill these cities up, then who would do it? Then again, I could be wrong, maybe there are some out there who are ready for it, but they just won't speak up. Me personally, I'm content with life. I never receive any disrespect from the younger people, because I treat them with as much respect as I would any other man or woman. Maybe that's all it would take, is for them to be treated fairly and have their opinion taken seriously and they wouldn't shoot their mouths off near as often. This is just my though."

Monty takes a swig of his flask and moves to the side.

Remove the under 48 hour rule.

It is not needed. We went for a long time without it and the good people learned how to live. Why could it not happen again?
Report Post Tip
With the sudden increase in boats from abroad bring people from all sorts of nations and walks of life do you really think we can expand our current population by including them and teaching them if we abolished the 48 hour rule?

No, we couldn't.

We'd be wasting all the hard work and generosity of those that have helped our world become better known.
Report Post Tip
ah..back in the old country...if some bastardo talked like that about my famiglia, me and some of my associare, we take him in the woods behind the butchers shop and we have a man to man talk with him and then we have him pay us for this lesson.

I hear they call it mugging in this country.
Report Post Tip
Why would we?

In the olden days the world was well known and there was no -48 hour rule.

We used our wits and our instincts to survive those first few hours off the boat and become connected.

Anyone who needs 48 hours to make contact with someone in this world is a retard.

If they choose to sleep for 23 hours and 59 minutes that is their own responsibility.
Report Post Tip
eh Mr Bloody,

I do not know of that old country you talk about. Me I talking about Sicily....

Ah, I can still smell the olive blossoms of the groves outside of Palermo. Back then we did not know of any of these rules we had our rules of the Costa Nostra.

So I am being thinking that perhaps it would be possible to inflict this sort of discussion on those who are not a Friend Of Ours. We know that it is not permitted to kill someone who is not one of us, but to make them wish that they HAD been, might discouraging them from carrying on like that.
Report Post Tip
Mary steps forward to voice her opinion

Well, the 48hour rule is around to ensure that civilians have the optimum time to find a home, knowing many of the trigger happy mafioso that we work with, would be having a field day without it. We know there will always be people out there trying to do whats NOT in the best interest of others. And thats what makes many of you, and i say "you" in general, a common thug. This is what differentiates a CL from a commoner.

Now, as for those civilians who tend to run their mouths of at every opportune moment, what can we do? There is no sense in waiting to shoot at them when it can be done. By when that time comes, they are already sponsored. Do we report it on the streets, to make their lives more difficult in getting into a crew? Do we take the subtle approach in informing our CL then he/she can inform the others? (as we do know that there is a system by which we should follow)

The point is, that there is always going to be some complaint, some issue that will arise and it will always be different. How we deal with it personally may determine a bigger picture. So instead of worrying what everyone else is going to do about what is going on, why not try to do what you can in your moment and let the world move on.

There are people who are more than capable of running things, they are doing it right now. There are those who assist in the best way they can, and then there are those who try their best to make life difficult for others. Note, that they are protected by laws in which we cant work around, or can we? Think before you act, ask before you do.

There I have started rambling, I will get back to work now.

She notices her boss looking for her

Best be off now. Hope at least a few of you will think about it.

The_Falcon steps up among the growing crowd, clearing his throat to speak.

People, people!

Falcon motions for everyone to be quite

"Now I might sound crazy, but this is what I would like to see done. You see all of these CL's? All of them are fine people, and all of their organizations stand for different things.

I think it would be really nice to see what these things are. I'm not calling anyone out, I just think that (New Mafioso's) might find a CL he sees similar views with. That way it's a little bit better of a match, and a family would seem more like a family. I don't know but I think this would be a good thing simply because RPing. This way you can kind of get into your character and promote it amongst ourselves. "

(OOC: This was not meant as disrespect to anyone, I'm not asking anyone to do anything, rather an oppritunity to speak my mind of what I would like to see.)
Report Post Tip
The_Falcon, some of us have repeatedly stated what our families and crews stand for. I suggest you go through the archives and you will see this.

But, since you ask...

The Java Cartel:

We stand for family. Family first, family forever, family will kick yo azz if you cross us, LONG LIVE TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE MAFIA WAY! Well, kidding so erm, seriously? We here at The Java Cartel stand for honour, respect, and welcoming new blood into our world with experienced members that are more than willing to help them. We stand for growth of our community, yes that means the 48 hour rule too.

We run the city of Philly. We run a great coffee importing company that has seen the opportunity to expand to New York already.

Truly, what is stopping someone from mailing us leaders and our slaves, I mean Right Hand and Left Hand men and women, and asking us what we stand for? Asking what our rules are? It would sure beat "kin i join ur kru".
Report Post Tip
Silence steps up and extinguishes his smoke before speaking

If I could do/change one thing I would get rid of that damn retire button. There is no reason you cant ask your boss or one of the members from your families HS to kill you if you don't want to be here.

Makes his way back into the crowd

Flying Pig looks on with interest, as he sees many mobsters talking about there being room for improvement, while others sing the graces of our current leadership

What would I do? Heh, I would give La Cosa Nostra a much needed kick in the ass. I stand for the traditional four pillars of La Cosa Nostra. Looking around these streets, I do not see many mobsters. I see quite a few girl scouts who somehow managed to slip into a mafia family. A balance must be found between assisting new immigrants in integrating themselves into our business, while maintaining our traditions of respect and loyalty. A Gangster does not so much as look a Mademan in the eye, unless it is with respect. A Boss holds your life or death in his or her hands. I see alot of mafiosi who expect to be treated with equality, fairness, kindness, and sympathy in all situations. I have to wonder what world they think they are living in, and if they have any idea what sort of business the mafia is, and what the people who run it are like.

There is a generation around today that has been brought up in a culture of coddling and hand holding. It is all they know. No one in their family line has ever had to learn things for themselves. None of them ever had to use their wits to get into a family AFTER ranking to gangster, with no restrictions on shooting them being in place. They are barely mobsters, as a result. They are soft and expect to be treated like spoiled children, and as they move up in the world, they assume that it is the reciprocal duty of the higher ranked mobsters to give handouts and coddle each fresh body off the boat.

The idea that a Boss is to be feared is lost upon many these days. The position has lost alot of its reverance. Many among our ranks see these people as their equals, perhaps with a finer cut of clothing being the only difference. Perhaps it is the lowered standards required to receive your own family these days. In days of old, a Boss who was killed for being a "Tard" would be a brilliant contributing member of La Cosa Nostra these days. We are seeing mobsters getting opportunities to run their own families, when they have contributed so little that they probably should not even be deserving of a promotion. All this is being done in the name of growth, but as I stated, a balance must be found. Perhaps more highly qualified individuals would aspire to greatness if the bar were raised and they could be proud of holding the position. Personally, I wouldn't want to be associated with a group of leaders who cannot even find their way out into the streets.

So...what I would do? Same thing I believe I have always done. Find a balance betweem tolerance and increased expectations, raise standards for being a Boss, and restore and demand respect for the hierarchy of La Cosa Nostra. I would make sure that things started to look like the mafia again.
Report Post Tip
FlyingPig, those old glory days are gone. I must say though that they should not be forgotten. It is possible to return to those days, though we must be realistic and do so in steps. I agree with you when you say that we are Mafioso and that we should not be coddled and handed everything to them. They deserve a shot to prove themselves, but that is all they should get. I have tried to bring a bit of knowledge to those new to these shores. But I will not hold their hands and do everything for them.

I must tell you this Bloody Mary, this is the Mafia. We are not here to do what is in the best interests of others. We are in fact here to what is in the best interests of our Family and Ourselves in that order. We earn and protect for the family and we do not go around trying to be angels running around helping every poor soul that can't cut its own weight out every time they get into another fight with someone they should have or every time they beg for money in the streets.

There are standards that people need to remember. We live by Omerta, Honor and Respect. You keep your mouth shut, you do whatever is nessacary for your Family, and you always show respect even if its your most hated enemy.
Report Post Tip
I would try to shepherd in a time where simply not fucking up was not enough.

A time where the rank of Made Man meant something in ALL families.

A time where, once again, the streets were the heart and soul of our world.

A time where crew leaders were feared.

A time where respect was earned, not just demanded, and a time where those demanding it had already earned it.

A time of growth (as far as my influence allowed).

I could go on, but you probably get the idea by now.

As it is, I am in the same boat as many, I am not in a position to make those changes at the moment. Sadly matters outside of these streets will prevent me from doing so soon enough that putting myself forward for a Captaincy or CL role is unwise. I believe you shouldn't be a leader if you are not going to have the time to lead properly, and I don't... or won't quite soon.
Report Post Tip
Many interesting points brought up here. I'd like to address a few of them. Coddling and hand holding I do not see, Iris and myself agree on a lot of points including the 48 hour rule and the educational needs. But I see neither of us doing the above. Respect? You're damn right it happens in my family or they know the consequences. I'd like to know of any of my family members who have shown disrespect to someone and gotten away with it. The 48 hour rule, frankly I am tired of discussing - the reasons for it all remain the same and the reasons against it all remain the same. Currently those in power agree with it. Perhaps some day for those of you against it, the powers then won't and you'll have your chance.

I am not going to go into a long drawn out speech as to what my family stands for, we pretty much follow the same philosophies etc as we have from the beginning. If there is one thing my family must exhibit to all, it is loyalty. Their ancestors have been killed at least once, some more and yet their children continue to come back to their parents' family - enough said?

As far as auths go, I know of several people who desire it and when we hold a meeting regarding such will mention their names if noone else does. However atm, we are getting current families full and taking the time to teach the newcomers as we are not yet seeing a need for another HQ needing to be filled. We will do so in plenty of time for all to find families

Noob finishes his cigar, gets up off the bench and hands Czar his lighter. He has listened to everyone's views and decide to put his own forward

I agree with a lot that has been said and disagree with an equal amount, I have a few points of view that may or may not be agreed with but in my eyes that's what I see fit.

The first thing that I would like to see is change. We have 4 Family heads at this stage and 2 captains, I am going to disregard the two captains for now, as they are not family heads. These 4 families are doing pretty much the same things. Do you see one Leader standing out of the crowd? Course not! They seem to be blending in with each other. I remember back in the old days when you would have x amount of leaders and they all ran differently, you could see the differences between each family. You also had two families running from the same cities, which often promoted rivalry.

The next point is the 48hr rule, I agree and disagree with it. I agree that people who are innocent should remain that way until they commit a crime great enough to show that they are now leading life as a mafioso, but I do not agree with this being 48hrs. Myself and many other mafioso's never got this protection, we had to fend for ourselves and use our brains to get ourselves a family. The 48hr rule entices people to spoon feed the immigrants and also allows them time to run their mouths. I think teaching these immigrants should only begin when they are in your family.

A third point to which a few people have mentioned is that we need more family heads. I agree and disagree again. We do not NEED more family heads but it would be nice to see the other cities thriving and having someone new on the scene, not another captain but someone else to bring us a breath of fresh air. This will allow change to happen and will allow someone with different ways of doing things to do so.

Noob lights another cigar and wanders back to his bench

Well, yes Darth, those days may be gone, but they are not long gone. It is more than possible for them to return. We just need someone to bring it back. I know I could do it. There isn't a doubt in my mind. I would not even consider it to be difficult. All it takes is someone willing and able to enforce it.

Alessia, are you defending your family and your leadership? This is a discussion about what certain mafiosi would do if they were in a position of power. In other words, what we would strive to accomplish, not what we feel is wrong with the current city Bosses. There is no one accusing you of being lax on enforcing respect or anything else. The only one who made any acknowledgement of any current leaders was myself, when I said that many recent and current leaders were mute. You said you don't want to go into a long drawn out speech about what your family stands for, but that is sort of what this discussion is about - what you would do as a leader. So, why not tell us what your family stands for or what you strive to accomplish with the opportunity you have been given?
Report Post Tip
"What would i do?"

Joop pondered.

Noob, you mention rivalry. Rivalry? What is this?

Joop conveniently pulls a dictionary from his pocket and searches for the definition

Ah, Ok. I see no rivalry. This is one thing i would change. The families now seem to be far too close and working together seems to be one thing done far too much. In my view the families are not here to get along and play scrabble together discussing who they should auth next. It should be a rivaly, they should auth whoever they see suitable and whoever would benefit their family most. With a "Fuck the other family" attitude, whilst maintaining respect of course. But the point is that they should protect their own, try to be the most powerful, the strongest. Not to have an equal share and help each other out.

I think there are some vaild points stated above. I also agree that much need kick up the arse is, well, much needed.

On the issue of more people given the chance to prove themselves as a CL by being given auth. I think No. I wouldnt do this. The people which are worthy of being given the chance to run a family stand out from the crowd and eventually are chosen to run a family. These sound like cries from people who want to run one, yet do not put enough time, effort and have enough about them to be given the chance, so they complain about there not being enough.

Joop is satisfied that his opinion has been heard, and takes a seat waiting for a response.
