The Book-Cadillac Hotel Started by: Undercover-Angel on Jul 21, '12 20:49

In the early 1900's, Detroit was well on its way. The city was coming alive and the demand for Hotels was increasing. By the 1920's, the old Cadillac Hotel had served its purpose and expansion was now required. The old Cadillac Hotel was razed and a new, modern 29 story building was built. Lots of money was put into this project. The proper palms were greased, union workers were brought in, and the structure was completed on time. The hotel was renamed the Book-Cadillac Hotel. It was a true masterpiece of its time. At the time of its completion, it was the largest hotel in the world! The expansive, luxurious hotel was back in business!

The Book-Cadillac Hotel

Guests were greeted by a lobby that was awe-inspiring to say the least. It oozed first class. There were three dining-rooms. The Venetian Room was for formal dining. The high society from all over dined there just to be seen. The Esquire Room and the Cadillac Cafe' were the non-formal dining options for the average visitor. The Grand Ballroom was exquisite! Various events were held there weekly. It was always booked.

While there were suites for the upper class, most guest rooms were simple but comfortable. Rates ran between $2 and $5 per night depending on the amenities and the view.

The great depression hit the Hotel industry hard. The Book-Cadillac fell into receivership. With prohibition and the depression taking its toll, the mob seemed to be one of the few things prospering. Rumors were the Hotel was bought by a reputed Mob Boss from New Orleans so he could provide apartments for his family while conducting business in Detroit. The original ad for the opening of the hotel was reran in the local Tribune to boost business. Detroit being across the river from Canada became a great place for mobsters.Detroit was a bootleggers dream. The Book-Cadillac's two bars
(The Coctail Room and Motor Bar) were reopened with bootleggers supplying alcohol brought over from Canada. The local police were paid handsomely to look the other way.

The Hotel maintained its perception of a legitimate hotel and began offering Apartments for $60 a month, mostly rented out to the mobsters visiting Detroit.

As you enter the main lobby and approach the desk, a small sign listed the various rates and amenities available.

Dressed in a pinstripe suit and having a cigar in his mouth, Maestro walked in the lobby of the Cadillac Hotel and looked around. He approached the receptionist and put a wad of cash on the desk.

I'd like your best suite, if it ain't a problem?

Report Post Tip

Dean Obanion was excited about the future as he ented the establishment.  Might I be able to book the luxury suite for a spell and i will pay extra to have a runner at my disposal if possible.  He then lit his cigar and looked into space for a few seconds as he mentally made plans for things to come

Mercury found the counter to this Hotel in Detroit unstaffed. She decided to take it over. It now belonged to her family from Los Angeles. It did not take long before someone came to the check-in counter.

Mercury took a look a t GeorgeApple. A room with a street view and a table to old weight. An odd request but it surely can be handled. Mercury got a room key and handed it to GeorgeApple

Here you are sir. Third floor corner room that gives you a view of both streets. I am sure you will find the table adequate. If you need something else just give us a call.

Mercury handed GeorgeApples an Amenity pass.

On the house. Enjoy your stay.

Here she is at the Motor City looking for the prodigal Mercury , she frowned when she noticed the time. It has been 15 hours since she had left Loa Angeles and she is on an errant to find that naughtry Merc! She would have catch  the next plane if it hadn't been for Innocence . She remembers all too well why she was here on the first place ....

~~Flashback~~

"Knock, knock, kncok " A sharp tap at the door pf Rhaziel's room can be heard along teh corridor. Grudgingly she woke up from her slumber . her dark brown hair tousled from sleep, covers half her face.She brushed it aside , stifled a yawn and tries to shake the cobwebs out of her mind due to sleep.

"This got ot be important or else the person behind that door will get a whipping that he wont ever forget" . She hissed under her breath. She slipped into her robe and covers herself up. Rhaziel yanked her door and about to snap at the person in front of her , when the said person thrust to her a letter that have the insignia of the Godfather of Los Angeles. She open the letter and read it .

Consig Rhaziel,

I want you to look for Mercury , only you can find my wayward right hand. You and her are close frineds and she confides to you alot.

She left me a message that she will be on vacation for 2 weeks , but I need her 3 days from now for a small business

outside the pier. She got loads of connection and she knew how to handle money quite efficiently.

Go look for her at the 7 cities and bring her here asap.

Insignia of the Godfather of Los Angeles,

Innocence

~~~~~
"Well according to my informant she is staying here for the last two days " Rhaziel looks around for any sign of Mercury, defeated she goes to the receptionist to book a room for the whole week and hopes she will encounter Mercury
Mercury is asleep in the corner suite at the Book-Cadillac Hotel when she hears a light rasping on the connecting door. She turns over and ignores it. The light rasping soon turns into an insistent knock. Annoyed, Mercury gets up, grabs her robe, and goes to the connecting door. She unlocks it, opens it and gives Katarina a disgusted look. The one thing Mercury hated was being woken up when she was on vacation. Sure, the vacation wasn't a scheduled one. She had just decided to disappear for a couple weeks and lay low but still ...
What is it Katarina Mercury inquired.
Why was the door locked? How am I supposed to check on you if you lock the door?
Mercury was annoyed further by this.Surely you didn't wake me to find out why I had locked the door did you? Mercury asked rather pointedly.
Well, no. The bellhop cam up and told me that Rhaziel was here and asking for you. She asked several of the staff. No one gave her any information but someone told her you were here somewhere so she booked a room. They put her two floors down on the other side of the Hotel.
Well, at least there is that. Lets see how long we can avoid her. My guess is she found out I am vacationing and wants to have some fun. I know she will eventually hunt me down but lets make her work for it, Mercury said. In the mean time, how about you order us some coffee and whatever else you might want from room service while I take a shower?
Mercury let Katarina in and went to take a shower. Katarina reviewed the menu.
Katarina rang the kitchen and ordered.
We'd like a pot of coffee, two orange juices, an egg white omelet with just cheddar cheese and a fruit plate delivered to Mercury's suite.
The lady let Katarina know it'd be about twenty minutes. Katarina hung up the phone and looked towards the bathroom as she heard the shower turned on. She sighed, went and went out on the balcony to wait for room service. Keeping up with the antics of Mercury was quite a chore but Katarina was up to the challenge. Mercury knew she was a pain and always made it worth her while.
We've got company Boss Katarina said. Mercury looked out the back window to see a cab speeding after them. Great!
Lose them! was Mercury's reply. Katarina sighed. She took a quick left and then the first right. Another right and another right. They had enough of a lead that the cab wouldn't have seen the turns. She easily lost the cab and headed back to the Hotel. Katarina parked by the side door and got out.
That was too close! So much for heading into the city. Everywhere we went she was there! Damn that woman and her radar! Mercury complained all the way up to the room. She slammed the door and picked up the phone and rang the lounge.She ordered two bottles of wine and a bottle of scotch. She  hung the phone up and picked it up again.She ordered two fruit plates and specifically requested that one be strawberries. Frustrated with the afternoon events, she went out onto the balcony and got some fresh air while she waited.She realized she may as well let Rhaziel find her. She couldn't hide forever. She knew it.
While sitting in her Luxury Suite, Mercury decided it was time to end her vacation. Word was there were issues in Los Angeles that demanded her attention.
Katarina, pack up. Lets get back to LA. Evidently we have some businesses in trouble there and word has gotten to me that I must take care of it.
Mercury gathers her things and calls for the bellhop to come get their luggage.
Shhhhh, lets be quiet about this. I wonder how long it will take Rhaziel to realize we have checked out.
The bellhop arrives in short order and takes their bags downstairs. Mercury and Katarina quietly slip out of the room, get in the waiting car and are off to the airport. Mercury is looking forward to getting back to LA and back to work. She can only vacation for so long before she needs the action of this thing of ours. Extorting businesses who have not been paying since her absence will quickly get her back in the swing of things.
Herald still insisted that he got the codes and were "messages". But if this was true, then it was a message Herondale had no idea how to read.
The mobile slowed suddenly and turned sharply right, onto a different surface, as if into a driveway or access road. Herondale perked up, listening intently for clues as to their whereabouts. They'd been driving for less than ten minutes, and although Herondale had tried to followin his mind, he had lost his bearings quickly. For all he knew , they were now going to some abandon warehouse.
The mobile came to a stop , and Jace heard the wiindow roll down. "We are here " he heard them laughing and talking.They then took out the blindfold out of Jace and an old friend hand shakes him laughing hard.
"Gotcha mate, its been a long time dude " Jace adjust his eyes and saw his old friend Ramon he then noticed that they are on a magnificent Hotel.
Jelena stretched and went to the window while she waited on her coffee. She noticed a car roaring up the access drive to the Hotel. What in the hell was going on? She sure as hell no one had brought trouble to her families hotel.
When they got out of the vehicle two guys were strong arming another who was blindfolded. The blind folded man looked familiar but she couldn't place him. This was NOT going to happen on her turf! NO WAY/ Jelena picked up the phone and called the front desk.
Get security out front NOW. A couple thugs have a guy blind folded at our entrance. Hold those thugs until I get down there! Bastards bringing it to MY Hotel! No damn way!
Jelena slammed the phone down before she got a reply. She got dressed quickly, grabbed her gun and went downstairs. She looked out the main entrance and saw security was holding all three men. She stormed outside to see what in the hell was going on.
The two made a brother hug and punch each other playfully, it had been years snce they had seen each other. Unfortunately they serve different bosses but they still have contacts and infos about each other.
While laughing they enter the place, it seems a bit familiar but he shrugged it off and talk with his buddy happily .
"By the way Jace I hope you will find this place to your liking. It has magnificent rooms and the people here are very professional " Ramon winks at him and made a grand wave of his hands and shouted :
Welcome to The Book- Cadillac Hotel
Dramatically he bowed at Jace, Ramon always love grand entrances and drama.
" You never change Ramon ! So what is good at this place mate?" Jace inquired as he takes in the decoration. He notice that there are different rooms at the hotel , a dining room for formal , guess this is where you have the elite society . And for those that wanted to relax and have coffee room , he noted that place so when he is bored he will vist the room.
Ramon leads him at the hotel front desk and make him pick his suite to his liking :
