| Weighted votes - Get rid | Started by: Mysterion on Nov 01, '12 10:58 |

Looking through a number of the Player Commission votes I find it odd that members are given weighted votes, therefore a much greater influence in changing the game than the other PC members. It was my understanding that the player commission are chosen to represent the wider opinions of the user base, so I find it unfair that a minority within the PC are able to outvote the majority... (Right now I can see a vote where 6 have voted yes, and 2 have voted no, yet the vote is tied...) |

I agree, it is suppose to be what is best for the game in the majority of the PC not based on 1-2 peoples opinion. |

There must be a reason for a weighted vote. I'm guessing that you have to consider the code's involved with making the idea possible and I'm sure that the PC that have the weighted votes are taking that into consideration. |

None of those with weighted votes are coders. |

What you fail to mention is there are 5 undecided votes, which can sway the balance. Even if the PC CL/RHM/LHM vote one way the rest of the PC can still out vote them & the PC CL/RHM/LHM don't always agree either. |

Not to be an ass but what you are forgetting to mention is that not all of those PC players are active, Squishy rarely votes as a PC member, Ter rarely votes, and 1 or two others also seem to not vote. |

The past 4 votes have only had 2 people not vote. The votes are left open for 3 days so if people aren't around in that time they miss the vote. 2 prior votes had 4 people not vote each but that was due to no notification of voting starting, we are now notified when the voting process has been started. |

With 2 of the PC members not voting it creates the possibility of a vote being won with just 3 people voting on it. If El_Nino, Ralph and Grin decided to vote NO to this suggestion and two of the other PC members weren't available to vote, it would be rejected even if the remaining 8 voters all voted YES... If that's not a fail system, I don't know what is... |

I haven't seen El_Nino, Ralph & Grin all agree/disagree on a vote excepting when it was a majority voting for it anyway. I believe there has only been 1 vote that passed/failed primarily to the votes being weighted and that was remove WB for tapering with a tally of "Voting Totals, Yes: 8 (7), No: 9 (4), Undecided: 2 (2).". |

The point I was making or trying to at this early morning is the one previously mentioned above mine by Mysterion. The PC is suppose to make decisions on what is best for the game and I do not see 2 or 3 votes of No vs 4-5 of Yes as being something that should be acceptable. |

That one vote that failed is also one of the biggest changes in the game that was vote failed on and it appears evident to me that Squishy felt to overpower them and remove Fatal WB period. Yet despite this the PC or the ones voting which is making it fail still will not change their vote despite the fact Squishy does not want fatal WB in the game anymore. |

I don't really have a preference in terms of the weighting of the votes, as far as I know it was just how Squishy originally coded it. |

Typhon, I voted no as a result of the changes Squishy made in the most recent WB thread. As I explained in both the reasoning behind my vote and within the thread itself. It was not simply a matter of voting no to be stubborn. |

The Player Commission may be divided over the removal of WB & introduction of tapering but both sides are voting on what they believe to be best for the game. |

I am personally in favor of weighting only being taken into account when a vote is deadlocked. |

@PC-El_Nino - Sounds like a great alternative. |

Grin that may be the case and I do feel that it is but there is still the fact you refuse to actually come up with a solution that you would agree to and feel that others also would agree to. That is for a different thread though this is about the imbalance of voting power. Which Nino's solution seems to be rather good. |

As you've raised it in this thread, I'll address it. I have suggested numerous things I would agree to, however they are not in keeping with what the game owners want for the game. Given their view overrides mine and given the steps that have been taken already, I would prefer to remain in a situation of no WB at all rather than having it for purely active players as that may result in less shots being taken against other active players. |

I wouldn't mind seeing a system where the weighted votes were distributed more evenly. I know there are reasons for those weighted votes, but as it has been brought up here, I don't think a vote should pass or lose because 3 people voted a certain way and the remaining voters being the majority voted another. I would definitely be in favor of weighted votes being taken into account when we are at a deadlock as El_Nino mentioned. |

I am pretty sure i was one of the first folks to comment on this fact in a different thread. I would be ok with the weighted votes being used as tiebreakers, but I have an issue with weighted votes. |
