FiveseveNs are not very good for home protection. They are designed as armor piercing pistols, hence the ridiculous ammo they shoot (the 5.7 x 28 round). Because of that, they are more likely to travel past (through) what you are firing at, and accidentally hit other things (innocent people). So, unless hoodlums start wearing Kevlar, I would pass on the gun. For home protection just get yourself something reliable that's at least .40 caliber. I never recommend specific guns because it's more about finding something you are comfortable with. If you live in a residential area, I'd also recomend using Hollow Point (JHP) bullets. Those bullets are more lethal, and are less likely to to go through your wall and hit innocent bystanders/neighbors. Although, 500 bucks for a 5.7 isn't a bad price. If you were a gun collector, I'd get it. =) As for the AR-15.....I dunno. I don't think rifles are good in residential areas. Pistols are better for close ranges, and won't go nearly as far as teh rifle. Hope this helps. Send me a MM if you wanna talk more. |

That definitely helps - thank you. They call the 5.7 the "cop killer" in Spanish, so I passed at time :). I figured it was a good price, but my knowledge of pistols is limited. Although, kidnapping for ransom has become a favored past time of one of the cartels in town and if you're ever unlucky enough to come in to their sights they usually come w/automatic weapons and vests. I'm just about positive that killing one or two of them in the process would only make things worse for me, so I'll stick to home protection against the jackass that decides to try to boost my tv. The AR-15 would be more for my ego than anything else, haha, but I'll into a .45 or .50-cal pistol that I'm sure must kick like mule. :) Thanks for the advice. |

Silky_Slim, the 5.7 Has two rounds the AP round and then a boat tailed hollowpoint round which expands like a normal hollowpoint but is about the same size as a .22 Magnum. The ar-15 is a good home defense weapon if its set up properly and use the right ammo. Hornady makes a round called the TAP that stands for tactical application police, its a very good round and wont over penetrate but does massive damage inside the body. Ar-15 is a good weapon for homdefense agisnt multiplte aggesors. |

| Understood. Thank you very much for the info Mr. Shark. Hypothetically speaking, if one were to have the option of obtaining a fully-automatic AR-15, would this be advantageous over a semi-auto AR-15, or would the diminished accuracy in the hands of an inexperienced user prove overly detrimental? | |

| Fully auto is only really used for one thing covering fire, there is really no advtange to Full auto in a self or home defense situation. iv eshot full auto before and however fun it is the accuary and control of the weapon goes down greatly. Semi auto you can fire very fast but accurate | |

The newer AR-15 with the 3 round burst is the best of both worlds. Full auto is great for putting mass volumes of bullets down-range, but accuracy stinks. The 3 round burst allows you to put quite a few rounds down the tube without the barrel jumping all over the place. |
