Ok, so we have seen both sides of this. Now, Thomas has identified that the 5 day rule is to protect them for "Extra Time". Which implies it wasn't just from the war. Hi has offered his opinion about the subject, saying we should go back to the 48 hour rule. So...can we have a leader to come out here, make a thread, and establish whether the 48 hour rule, or... the 120 hour rule is in effect.
Report Post Tip
That was already established. Cab came out and explained the policy. Nothing is changing as a result of my rant, I simply wanted my voice to be heard.

Also, you are wrong about my viewpoint. I said NOTHING about time limits. My entire point was that this is not the mafia way of doing things. And, because it is not the mafia way of doing things, it is poor policy regardless of whether it "works" or not. Hayley spoke about trying it out to see how it would go. Well, it does not matter how it goes. It's not the mafia way, and as such, it should not be implemented.

This isn't even really about a point of view. My contention is a simple fact which cannot be denied. The mafia does not allow competition on their turf. Simple as that.

Except they do now, Hi, and as long as they say it is so...it is so.

Listening to the view points of many people, Gianluca takes his time to contemplate a few matters

Does this thing of ours really always conform to what the Mafia is always about?

I really doubt it, there has always been subtle differences which we are unable to do anything about.

I heard Hi mention "giving them licence to rob the stores we control and make money on our turf, free from tax".

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there is a single leader currently who has the power to enforce a tax on their city. The cities are fundementally controlled by the godfathers who in their great wisdom have decided not to enforce a city wide tax.

What I have noticed however from reading the Obits is a growing trend of people dying before they reach the 5 day limit, one might wonder if this is a coincidence or not.
Report Post Tip
While there may not currently be a Godfather enforcing a tax on everyone in a particular city, my point was that when you work for a family, you are kicking up tribute to SOMEONE. That isn't the case with someone who refuses to work for a family. They pay tribute to no one. They only work for themselves. When they do this on a patch controlled by the mob, they are cutting into the profits of the family, and are in direct competition with that family. This is something no self-respecting family would allow.

Are we mobsters, or are we not? I'm beginning to wonder.
Report Post Tip
Isn't this just a case of the old guard not appreciating the new?

Don't get me wrong, I can fully appreciate your traditions and your 48 hour rules and all the other bullshit that people periodically break because it suits them and they think they can get away with it.

But not every crime is taxed. The guy snatching a purse isn't taxed. The guy stealing washing off a line isn't taxed.

What you are talking about is discretion.

If a guy pulls a score on your territory, say maybe he holds up a corner store. Well then as a mobster you're liable to want a piece of the action. If you're strong enough to take it, maybe you do. Especially if it's on your turf. And especially if you're the Mafia.

But the fundamentals of it are that the leaders who made this rule seem to favor free enterprise on the part of certain individuals.

You might see this as threat or a disgrace upon everything you've ever stood for, but then again all I ever see when I return to these shores is the old bullshit, the same old faces stepping up and gettin the fuckin auths.

It's one big pointless wheel based on rules that everyone will try and break if they can or depending on how they feel.

This for me represents a pretty significant shake-up and frankly I welcome it. Okay so everyone is just off the back of a big war, but then again, so what?

If you can't change the rules like this while you're a leader, what can you do?

Most of the leaders just ponce about anyway, concocting their little schemes in their coffeehouses and preparing for round 3 with whichever old faces they've been battling for years.

I've never seen one have a brainwave of note. Any rules they make are usually to do with taxing people who come to their city or some other old baloney to make themselves feel like they are actually doing something while they sit around doing nothing except sitting back behind a load of old rules and waiting to fuck each other over in various creative ways.

I see this as a difference between the old guard and the new, difference being the new guard won the right to make these changes. While the mustache Petes will no-doubt be horrified, I see an extra risk involved for all concerned in this change up and I like it.

Granted, the risk could be that you wind up losing all control and fall into a free-for-all from which the community doesn't recover for years, but what the hell, I'd still think that's an improvement on the current cycle.

I would not hardly call the current leaders the "new guard", Mirko. For the most part, they are from very old bloodlines. Even if they were the "new guard", the answer to your first question would still be "no". I feel that my initial speech clearly stated my reasons for not liking this particular decision. It has nothing to do with not appreciating any new leadership. I really don't feel like I need to rehash my arguments yet again. I made them quite clear, and if you paid attention, you would not need to attempt to read in any alternative motive.

You did make a few decent points. For one, not all crimes are taxed. However, most are taxed. So...given that, what is your point? Although not all crimes are taxed, most are taxed, and the ones that should be taxed are not being taxed under this rule. As long as that holds true, there is something very wrong with this thing of ours. We are diverting from the purpose of our being.

Your points on the circular nature of events in our cities is well taken. I also enjoy seeing a shake up. I would just prefer that the shakeups fall within some sort of definitive aspect of the mafia. As I repeatedly explained, this does not.

I just have to throw this out there, too, because it annoys me:
If you can't change the rules like this while you're a leader, what can you do?

Quite clearly, you can. This immediate decision is proof of that. That does not mean everyone will agree with those changes. In fact, very rarely is everyone going to agree on everything.

PepeLePew made a good suggestion in another speech. He said that this rule would be welcome, in that it could give street thugs the opportunity to buy into a family. That would suit me just fine. In fact, I love that idea. It would certainly be the "shake up" that you desire, it would still allow this extended period of amnesty that some of the leaders have decreed, and it would provide the traditional adherence to mafia principles that are important to me and others like me. But...as of right now, that isn't happening. All we have is an inexplicable pardoning of freelance criminal activity, and the only apparent justification for it is to benefit the unsponsored Gangsters. The same unsponsored Gangsters who are stealing money on our turf and scoffing at our way of life. That makes no sense.
Report Post Tip
I believe the rule needs to come to an end since the reason it was placed is not there any more.

there are plenty of families with spots open, it is useless now.
