So to keep it short, this would enable players to select groups in their contact lists to mass mail. There are many applications for this, as a few were cited in the original thread. It's a perfectly simple idea.

Report Post Tip

This is a great idea. Simple, useful. Perfect. I'd definitely prefer to see a scroll down list incorporating individual contact groups as well as all contacts, just to tighten things up that little bit more.

No issues whatsoever with this.

Report Post Tip

My only concern is how do we stop this from being used for spam and\or asshattery? Currently this would allow someone to add every player in the game and then spam them.

One thought I have is maybe make it cost something per recipient?

Report Post Tip

While I do think that if someone wants to spam badly enough, they will go to any lengths (some of them, anyway), this would be a reasonable way to deter them and would also be another means of pumping money back into the game, which I see as no bad thing.

Personally, I'd have no issues paying for the feature, but would there be a risk of this also deterring people from using it altogether?

Report Post Tip

I wouldn't use it if it were a pay feature. People could spam everyone in the game now but they don't. It would actually be less work to type eveyone's name into a mail than it would be to add everyone as a contact then mail them. I personally don't see that being an issue here.

Report Post Tip

What about making it part of the timers package then? That would mean that only serious players would have access to this feature.

(Don't misread and twist it around. I'm not saying only serious players have the timers. But it would be a way to avoid any new spammer from getting a hold of this feature).

Oh, wait, maybe this is a better way:
make it so only people over a week old can access this feature.

But yes, we need this. I would make life much easier for a lot of people.

Report Post Tip

I don't think that would work Adrian as most spammers use a new master account which I believe gives them the timers package for a short period (I could be wrong so feel free to correct me).

I think the best way is to have an option to have a contact list that is for mass mails and when you add someone they get a personal asking them to accept like an OC or crew invite.

Report Post Tip

The difference is, a player can spam everyone one at a time. With this feature they could spam everybody in the game at once at the same rate they could send to a single person before. That's a bit of a rate increase. Not just in people spamming to advertise but for people spamming to be a dick or a 12 year old having a tantrum.

Cassi, I do agree with the pay feature thing, its no good, was just an off the cuff idea. As for the ease, no, it wouldn't be. For one, recipients has to be formatted right, to add contacts its just copy\paste the online list into the add contact box, regardless of how they are separated and profit.

Adrian, both are viable ideas, the problem is the 12 year old having a tantrum has probably been playing a week.

Flash, good point about new accounts. Also the confirmation idea is viable but severely limits the whole thing. Being able to have 10 different groups to mass mail would be a huge boon to the whole deal.

Also, to all of you, I am not at all against this idea, in fact I would have already implemented it if I had a good idea to stop spam. One idea I've had is to limit the size of a contact group to maybe 60 (not idea, but it would help) but that still means that someone could blast 60 people with mails over and over.

Heres a random idea I've had while typing this, it may be a bit convoluted though. What if there was a "mass mail credits" (credits is probably a bad word to use for this, but I can't come up with a better one atm) value that your account has. Every person you send a mass mail to reduces it by 1. It goes up hourly (or at some arbitrary rate) based on your rank. So, a wise guy might get 3 an hour. That would let him mass mail 36 people a day (be that 36 people one time, or 6 people 6 times.) a godfather on the other hand could get 30 an hour.... also to keep it from being a complete hassle, you can mail over your quota but it goes negative and has to be above zero to send again. (Maybe with some limiting factor there.)

Again, just a random off the cuff idea, I honestly think is too complex for what SHOULD be a simple problem.

Report Post Tip

Ah, right after I posted I had another idea. We could make it limit recipient count by rank (Gangster gets 4, Don 50, GF 100, whatever). When you select a group to mass mail to it automatically puts all their names into the To field. When you try to send, if its over your limit it just says so and you have to prune the list down.

Also, as an ease of use thing I could make the To box automatically expand to show all names in it so that you don't have to scroll 37 yards over to find the guy you want to remove.

Report Post Tip

I like the rank idea, perhaps Don/GF could be unlimited.

Report Post Tip

I think that's a pretty near perfect way of avoiding the spamming issue. Excellent.

(Just to clarify, I'm referring to enkindle's last post)

Report Post Tip

One of thing I thought of.

Can we link this to play time as opposed to rank. I am thinking demotions and stuff or even master account play time. If you want to avoid spammers I think it is fair to say someone who has clocked up a fuckton of game playing time is unlikely to be a spammer!!

Report Post Tip

That's a fair point. I believe that's possible.

Report Post Tip

You make a very good point, PC-El_Nino...that didn't occur to me. Even better, then.

Report Post Tip

what do you guys think a fair 'play time' could be?

100 hours?

would it be character specific or master-account specific?

I tend to think it should be character specific (mainly for RP) partly because sometimes even if people have a lot of play time on their account they can 'come back' after a war and be a bit grumpy.. going by character play time could stop that because they would have something to lose by spamming nonsense...

Report Post Tip

Still a great suggestion. The "mass mail credits" didn't sound too complex for me, but maybe it will for new players.

and again, tying it to amount of game time is also a good idea.

Report Post Tip

To Whitey, tie it to character, just for the reason you gave.

Report Post Tip

I am in support of tying it to a character rather than a master account. I believe Dons and Godfathers should be unlimited. So basically I agree with a majority of the additions. If there isn't anything else here, I'll probably to set it to vote in the next few days.

Report Post Tip

we should probably lock down the specifics, then set it for a vote.

100+ online hours THIS character OR the rank of... Consig+ as a requirement?

Maybe also allow all RH/LH the privilege, since they have been afforded a position.
